Deborah Lippmann Cleopatra in New York. This is a black jelly base with medium sized gold hexagon glitter and large sized gold hexagon glitter. The black base is just sheer enough to let all the glitter show through without drowning it, covering it, or making it look lumpy, but opaque enough to provide full coverage. I think Deborah Lippmann really nailed the balance between black base and glitter on this color. The jelly + glitter combination works really, really well here.
The formula on this was great. Thinner than I was expecting, but not runny. The glitter applied evenly without me having to dab it on. The jelly base is opaque enough to give complete coverage in two coats (what I'm wearing here). It's a little rough with all that big hex glitter, so I used two coats of topcoat. Dry time is fast.
I really like this one. I have so many black with silver glitter polishes, but very few black with gold glitter polishes. Black with gold seems to be a trend this year. I used to be a die-hard black+silver fan, but lately I'm preferring this black+gold combination. I also love this polish because it matches perfectly with this shirt I got from Target (mine is black, of course).
Love it!

ReplyDeleteI'm not really into glitter polishes, but I might have to make an exception for this one. :)
ReplyDeletePS: I have that shirt (in black), too!
Wow they did a good job with this! Usually black jellies tend to dirty up the glitter but the gold still shines through unscathed!
ReplyDeleteFab :D
ReplyDeleteI love this color! I've been lemming it something fierce.

ReplyDeleteI'm not a huge fan of gold, but this works so well! You're definitely right about the balance between the base and the glitter. This is awesome!
ReplyDeleteamazing!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteAgain, your swatches make me want stuff - my wallet enjoyed your vacation, but to be honest, I'm happy you're back with those drool-worthy swatches of yours.

ReplyDeleteLove it - and yes, yellow gold is making a huge come back...stands to reason - real gold is out the roof expensive and we have seen years and years of white metals - it's time yellow gold hits hard again. We are seeing a lot of fashion accessories (buttons, belt buckles, bag hardware, zippers, etc) in yellow gold now.
ReplyDeleteWow, you're right--the translucent black is juuuust right, and there's a perfect balance of glitter and polish. I kind of got burned recently with China Glaze It's a Trap-eze, and have been a little hesitant to splurge on more glitter polishes, but Cleopatra really looks like it'd be worth it.
ReplyDeleteWOW- I love that shade! It's gooooooooooorgeous!
ReplyDeleteI love the depth in this one! It is so beautiful!
ReplyDeleteLove it!
ReplyDeleteI have that shirt in black too! Absolutely in love with it. And this is such a gorgeous polish. Deborah Lippmann always does such a good job with her glitters!
