Finally, to finish out Zoya's fall 2012 releases, the Gloss collection. The Gloss collection is a trio of three buildable jelly gloss shades. Each polish starts off very sheer, but builds opacity and intensity with each additional coat, allowing you to customize your color, create layered nail art effects (like syrup or gradient manicures), or they can be layered over other colors to add a sheer tint. The colors are:
Zoya Frida (four coats). Frida is a sheer blue-green jelly. It reminds me of the rare, old discontinued Essie polish Night Cap, which I always thought looked like NyQuil.
Zoya Katherine (four coats). Originally a custom color designed for a Peter Som runway show. Katherine is dark sheer eggplant jelly. Out of the three, this is the least even-looking. In my opinion, it's not wearable at one or two coats and doesn't look its best until four coats, which is what I'm wearing here.
Zoya Paloma (four coats). Paloma is sheer berry purple jelly. A little less red than it looks here, but still more berry/fuchsia than full-on purple. It's the brightest of the three and also the most even-looking. It's smooth and even enough to wear at one coat and still look good.
The formula on these was great. Thin but not runny. Very smooth and easy to apply. The only thing to watch out for with these is applying coats that are a consistent thickness. If you apply it thin in some areas and thicker in others, the end result may look a little patchy unless you go for the full four coats. I didn't find them to be streaky at all, just patchy unless the coats were an even thickness. Dry time was quick and every shade dries to a glossy finish even without topcoat.
Just to demonstrate how buildable these are, I've taken a photo of them after each coat. You can really see how the color intensifies and the jelly look starts to develop from the sheer/clear formula:
Overall, really cool set. Versatile colors. Paloma has the best, most even coverage of all three shades, but Frida is the most interesting color. Katherine is nice at four coats but it's a little bit patchy unless you're really, really careful.
The Zoya Gloss Collection will be available on zoya.com starting July 15th.

ReplyDeleteYou and me both! She had me at jelly...
DeleteI really like how Frida looks! I'll probably get that one and skip the rest.
ReplyDeleteLove jellies sooooo much!
ReplyDeletegood lord, why does Zoya not want me to have any money ever?!?!
ReplyDeleteThese look nice! I can see some very interesting jelly sandwiches made with these colors, especially Frida.
ReplyDeleteOhh those sneaky Zoya people! I need more money.
ReplyDeleteugh all 3 are super cool, GIMME!!
ReplyDeleteI am in love with Frida! She is the most beautiful of all of them. I love jellies! What an awesome tip to layer over a foil! I wanna try that! Thanks for the swatches,Scrangie! :-)
ReplyDeleteI'm really interested in seeing the layering over foil.
ReplyDeleteI need all!! I'm so happy jellies are becoming more easy to find!! YAY!
ReplyDeleteOoooh!! I love Frida!! Need me some NyQuil Jelly polish! Lol
ReplyDeleteThank you for the time you put into these reviews. You are my go-to blog for all the swatches.
ReplyDeleteP.S. Are there any easy-ish to find black glitters you could suggest?
ReplyDeleteOh yes. Will be getting these :)
ReplyDeletepaloma looks a lot like opi houston we have a purple
ReplyDeleteLovely review as always :)
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for showing these at 1, 2, 3 and 4 coats. I like the first 2 at 2 coats for jelly layering. I think I will buy the first 2 shades but not the last one.
ReplyDeleteLove Frida and Paloma! You don't see jellies the color of Frida very often.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to try Frida! I actually kind of like it at 1 coat, its just a hint of color, but really nice looking!
ReplyDeleteFrida is the one I really think is special! Thanks so much, Scrangie, for showing how buildable the colours are. Your swatches of each coat was very helpful.
ReplyDeleteI've seen the expression 'water finish' but never seen a polish described that way in the UK, is it like a thin jelly? It was interesting to see how they built up, I think I would have panicked at one coat of these though. Even more interesting (to me anyway) is seeing how similar your nails are to mine. Mine are at the ends of my fingers with no free edge, I find some nail wraps way too short, plus my nails are very curved if I grow them. Do you find this?
ReplyDeleteThe look of these at one coat sort of reminds me of the Revlon Just Bitten Nailpolish tints expect these are shiny. I don't really care for how they look on their own, even with multiple coats, but I am excited to try these as tinted layers on other polishes. I think that is a very interesting concept, and something I have not seen before.
ReplyDeleteOh I'd *love* to sandwich these with some glitters! They look perfect for that kind of thing!
ReplyDeleteI need Katherine in my life! Lovely swatches!
ReplyDeleteAaargh... I want! My wallet wouldn't be pleased +_+
ReplyDeleteThese look really nice after a few coats. I could not wear them with only one or two. Doesn't Zoya already have a Frida? Maybe I'm wrong..
ReplyDeleteAnyways, the colours are lovely! Great swatches - Thanks!
Cool! These are different from Zoya's typical thick and creamy shades. They would work well with layering!
ReplyDeleteI don't usually like Zoya colors but damn I want to get my hands on Paloma!
ReplyDeleteOh I like the colours but 4 coats are too much for me...
ReplyDeleteOut of all 3 I'm really feeling Paloma, I love berry pink colors so thats a must get for me.
ReplyDeleteHmmmmmmmmmm. I was thinking Paloma looked like DYTI Tex-y.
ReplyDeleteHmmmmmmmmmm. I was thinking Paloma looked like DYTI Tex-y.
ReplyDeleteI wish I had super long amazing nail beds like yours. :(
ReplyDeleteI really LOVE all my Zoya's, and I have many, but can't say I'm a fan of the jellyfish consistency. I love the colors, but simply don't have time to do base, 3-4 coats, then top, and that's the more opaque look I prefer. Sounds like a lot more like it than don't, though, so that's cool. I'm just more old school. :)
