Maybelline has a whole new line of nail polish out in drugstores now. It's called Color Show and it consists of 40 colors. The display has the colors divided into categories (like crackle aka 'shredded', shimmer, foil, creme, et cetera) and there's a very good variety to choose from. Maybelline shows all the colors on their website and they have an app you can download to virtually try on all the colors. I only picked up the ones that looked the most interesting at the time: Denim Dash, Styled Out, Twilight Rays and Wine & Dined.
Maybelline Color Show in 10 Denim Dash. A light-medium dusty aqua-leaning blue with flaky foil shimmer. This blue is one of those muted blues that I love, like Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear Pacific Blue. Bright color but not clean and crisp. The shimmer in this is cool, too. Flat, flaky foil particles with silver-blue-green iridescence.
Maybelline Color Show in 20 Styled Out. Similar to Denim Dash, just darker, more of an actual denim color, and with pure silver shimmer. I can't decide which of the denim blues I like more. I might have to go with this one because it's a little darker and it has more shimmer. They're both really cool, though.
Maybelline Color Show in 240 Twilight Rays. A black creme base with large, chunky, flaky gold foil shimmer. Some of the gold flakes flash green, which in some lights causes the entire polish to have a greenish tint. Kinda like how China Glaze Wagon Trail is black with gold shimmer yet the polish seems olive sometimes. I love this one, and I especially love how big the gold particles are.
Maybelline Color Show in 420 Wine & Dined. My label says wine and dined, the Maybelline website says "wined and dined", I'm not sure which is correct but I'm going with the label. Anyway, this is a vampy duochrome glass fleck. It's a blackened red-brown base with wine, purple and bronze glass fleck. At an angle, you can see a golden duochrome color shift. Like a browner, less sparkly version of Nicole Sounds Grape To Me. I see a few larger pieces of shimmer mixed in with the glass fleck, and I even see some sparks of bright purple now and then. It's a gorgeous color, but I think it looks better in the swatch than it looks on my nails in real life; seems more shimmery on camera.
The formula on these was mixed. I found the two dark colors to be runny and difficult to control. The blues, however, were perfect. Dense and smooth, not runny at all. The brushes aren't the best shape and size for getting a good curve around the cuticle, but it's nowhere near as bad as the Express Finish brush. I did three coats of each polish and only the darker colors needed all three. Dry time was average.
Quite a few interesting colors in this collection. A lot of common ones that you probably already have (red creme, silver foil, black crackle, stuff like that), but still a few really good ones. I think I'm going to go back for some of the purples next. I wonder if they'll ever expand this range to have special effects topcoats... It would be like a reboot of Colorama! Still holding out hope for something like that. Colorama was awesome. I miss it.
I bought mine from Walgreens, $4.99 each. They're on sale buy one, get one 50% off right now.
These are all so lovely!
ReplyDeleteI picked up a few too, we both got Twilight Rays, there was also another blackish one but I forgot its name that looked interesting. I really want to go back for those blues you swatched (damn you!!jk lol)
ReplyDeleteYour swatches are so pretty,Scrangie.:-) I love those denim blues, and might pick one up.It's that foily finish that is getting to me,lol! :-)
ReplyDeleteI hope they will be sold in Italy too. I haven't seen them yet around here. I'm really curious!
ReplyDeleteI really love these new Maybelline polishes. There are some really good ones and some really bad ones too. I was really disappointed by the silver foil, but the Denims are awesome! And I haven't seen Wine & Dined anywhere yet... That one looks really sweet.
ReplyDeleteI've seen these, but never knew if they were quality polishes. Of course, you make them look awesome:)
ReplyDeleteLove Twilight Rays and Wine & Dined! Hope these are available in the UK.
ReplyDeleteGreat photos, as always xoxo
I have been stalking the stores for a while now and can't find Wined and Dined anywhere !!! I have the 2 denim blues and I just love them ! Thanks for sharing :)
ReplyDeleteI totally LOVE Wine and Dined!!! So gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteI really like all of these! They're gorgeous. Both of the blues and Twilight Rays are my favorite.
ReplyDeleteLove all the colors! I wasn't expecting much when Color Show came out, but I was so wrong! Some of them are great!
ReplyDeleteI haven't even stopped to look at these. I don't like much of anything from maybeline so maybe I'm a bit biased. I do love twilight rays though! That color is so gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteThese are all quite pretty. May have to get one of those denim colors and Twilight Rays.
ReplyDeleteYour swatches & photos look great. I've only tried one of these new colors, Blue Blowout, and wasn't impressed -- it was too frosty and streaky. Oh, well, metallics can do that. I like the colors you picked a LOT better.
ReplyDeleteI would love to see swatches of the one that is supposed to be a dupe of Butter London Disco Biscuit. The denims look great!
ReplyDeleteGosh! They're sooo pretty. I hope I#ll get these here in Germany....
ReplyDeleteWhat's the name of that Topcoat you are using?
I really like these but still find it interesting that they are only $2.97 at Walmart. Why do they always charge more for the same thing if you buy it from a drugstore.
ReplyDeleteAnd there is a coupon you can print to get another dollar off so the total is only $1.97! The only downside is that the drugstore usually has more colors and the polishes have a better chance of being less "messy" aka used!
DeleteThey're all so pretty! I especially like Twilight Rays :)
ReplyDeleteI hope they hit the UK too. We have a friend from Texas staying and all I seem to do is tell her how much better her beauty stores are! I like these much more than I thought I would, I'd wear any of them I think. I'm looking forward to seeing my favourite colour...purple! Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeletemy walmart carries them for 2.99. the darker denim blue is a dupe for an old cover girl i still have, starry sky, which i LOVE!! and saphire siren is my favorite, a dark blue cream. such a good color. :)
ReplyDeleteI have Styled Out, tested it out on one finger, thought it was gorgeous, and haven't used it yet! I think it would look beautiful with silver stamping :D <3 Going to have to look for these other colors, too!
ReplyDeleteYou picked pretty amazing shades, Scrangie! And, as usual, your application is flawless. You're so pro!
ReplyDeleteYou picked really interesting colours, Scrangie! :) And as usual, your application is so pro!
ReplyDeleteWe got these at Walmart bout a month ago or so and now are permanent sense they have their only little spot on the shelves. I haven't gotten any cause they didn't really catch my attention, however the colors you picked out are beautiful.
ReplyDeleteMy Walmart only has the boring creme shades, nothing cool like this. I feel like I live in a cosmetics dead zone. Never get LE stuff, last to get new products- if we get them and usually only get just a few shades. Live in a city now and ironically never had this problem when I lived in Bumfuck, USA.
ReplyDeleteNo Wags here, maybe CVS or Rite Aid would have them. /whine
I keep coming back to look at Wined & Dined. Might have to get that one! :-D
ReplyDeleteLove the black with the gold flakes
ReplyDeletethese remind me very strongly of the now discontinued MNY polishes (used to love them to pieces, tons of great topcoats too)

I like the first blue, but I'm not feeling them all that much.
ReplyDeleteThey just look awesome :o ♥
ReplyDeleteThese are gorgeous. I'm loving Styled Out and Wined And Dined.
ReplyDeleteTwilight Rays is awesome.
ReplyDeletei keep walking past these in drug stores thinking i really don't need anymore polishes. but wined and dined is absolutely gorgeous and i might have to scoop that one up.
ReplyDeleteExcellent choices, they are all gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteWow Styled Out is gorgeous. I've seen these in stores and never realized this little gem was hiding among the others. I know where I'm going tomorrow. Beautiful swatches!!
ReplyDeleteFinally in Aug my rural Walgreens got this collection in. Surprised me how many shades in the tall display - but of course very picked over ASAP - I think the HS teens have this broadcast system when anything new hits the local drugstore and they all come in! I did bring home another Denim something shade to try - there were 2 Denim something shades there (not the one you show here sadly)...mine is the same shade of dusty denim but has a lot of silver swirling through it. Looks good on - wear - not so good.
