What I didn't like:
Matte lavender, matte forest green and shimmery dark purple.

Limited Edition NARS Trio Eyeshadow in High Society Fall 2012 Swatches and Review
What I liked:
While I love the colors themselves, I'm disappointed by the uneven application on these. That's been my experience with most NARS shadows, but I was hoping it would be different this time because I like the colors in this trio so much. I don't know if it's an issue with my primer or my brushes or just my skin chemistry or what, but I just can't seem to get a good application with most NARS shadows (especially mattes). Oddly enough, they actually seem to apply better without primer, though the colors don't look as vibrant as they would with it. So, NARS fans, a question for you: which primer do you use with your NARS eyeshadows? I think I need to try something new with these.

I ADORE the look you created... beautiful!
ReplyDeleteAwe! Thank you!
DeleteSuch a pretty look, you are so talented!!
ReplyDeleteI use UDPP with my NARS shadows, but I think I only have one or two mattes. =/
Awwwww, thanks :D I tried the same look using the NARS dark purple in the crease and it... wasn't pretty. lol
DeleteI usually use UDPP, but I also tried this with Too Faced Shadow Insurance and same result both times. Their shimmer formula shadows don't give me such a hard time, but the mattes and sorta-mattes (like the Night Series) always throw me for a loop!
I've only bought Daphne and for me, it also applied patchy and the color was not as vibrant as in the pan. For the price of a Nars shadow, I expected more...
ReplyDeleteI've bought a lot... and returned a lot. XD I've kept a few because I like the colors (Rated R, Santorini, All About Eve, few others), but none really seem to have quality/application/pigmentation matching the price :( Oh well, their blushes and nail polishes are great at least!
DeleteI use The All Natural Face eyeshadow primer, they do a regular one and one for oily lids, and it's the only one I've ever used that stops Night Clubbing and Nightfairy end up all over my cheeks. It works okay with the Touch of Evil palette I have too. They are tough colours to use without it.
ReplyDeleteOoh, haven't seen that primer before! Could be worth a try...
DeleteI want to love this trio, I really do. That green in the middle has me practically salivating. I do hate that NARS shadows can some times be tricky to work with, considering the price! I use LORAC Behind The Scenes, which I absolutely love. For the shades with large sparkles that tend to buff out and end up look murky, I use the tiniest bit of Fyrinnae Pixie Epoxy and treat the shadow like a loose glitter- lots of patting.
ReplyDeleteOoh, I have Behind The Scenes! I should try it with that next time.
DeleteI wonder if it IS body chemistry, because I never have issues with NARS shadows (they're my favorite - I buy very little else anymore). I use NARS Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base for everything - I've tried others, and they don't work nearly as well (more evidence of my body chemistry being soulmates with NARS?).
ReplyDeleteI'm going to have to try the NARS eyeshadow base. I have bought many, many NARS shadows over the year and have found the great majority of them to be hard, chalky and have poor payoff... But I know that tons of people rave about their NARS shadows, so maybe it is just a chemistry thing :(
DeleteI completely love how you can make the craziest of colours work xD Loving the Nars trio. Totally agree that the lavender shade looks the best !
ReplyDeleteUgh, that dark purple...! I would have bought this trio just for that shade alone (I'm a sucker for smoky dark purples), but that swatch of yours breaks my heart. :( Oh well, next time. In any case, you definitely made it work~ that eye look is gorgeous!

ReplyDeleteWell, technically I only made the lavender work, cause that's the only NARS shade I'm using in that look! The look I did with the lavender on the lid and the dark purple on the crease came out streaky and patchy, so I gave up on trying to use the dark purple as a crease color XD
DeleteJust one word:
ReplyDeleteGORGEOUS.
Simply gorgeous!
BTW I <3 your eyebrows!!
