I had my bottle of Nfu Oh 51 out after doing that comparison with Max Factor Fantasy Fire the other day, and it made me remember how pretty it is and how much it amazed me the very first time I saw it. I hadn't worn it in forever, so I figured I'd try layering it this time to see how it turned out. I went with blue with purple shimmer as my base color and I think they complimented each other nicely.
This is Nfu Oh 51 (two coats) over SpaRitual Blue Moon (two coats) plus one coat of Redi topcoat. On its own, Nfu Oh 51 is a sheer blue-purple that builds up to a jelly finish when multiple coats are applied. It has red-orange-green multichrome flakes, but what makes it special is the tiny yet distinct particles of red-orange-green multichrome shimmer, the same as the kind in Clarins 230. I feel like it loses most of its depth when layered, but over a darker color more of the multichrome flash comes out. I love how it flashes bright green in dim lighting.
As much as I dislike the slow-drying, gooey Nfu Oh Shiny Opal formula, I really do love 51. Out of all the flake glitter polishes in my stash, this is one of the few that hasn't been duped. And, if you're going to splurge on a Nfu Oh Shiny Opal, this is the one I'd pick.
It was nice to wear this again. It was the first "flakie" polish I ever bought and it's still one of my favorites.
It is gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteThis combo is MAGICAL!!
ReplyDeleteSuch a pretty combination!
ReplyDeleteOne of my favourites as well. I love it over purple more, usually use it with China Glaze Cowgirl Up, though I do have to admit it looks good over blue too.
ReplyDeleteI ordered it along with two other flakie polishes but this one is the only one I really like (sometimes I just take it out of my polish drawer to look at it and go oooh and ahhh over how pretty it is).
Very pretty!
ReplyDeleteVery beautiful combination!
ReplyDeletetotally beautiful!
ReplyDeleteuhh may !! uhMAZING !
ReplyDeleteI forgot how beautiful Nfu Oh 51 is. I know I have it but now I need to go find it!
ReplyDeleteThis is one of my favorite Nfu-ohs! It looks so beautiful on you!
ReplyDeleteScrangie, I adore this combination on you. I really enjoy seeing your layering because it's always inspiring - makes me remember to use what I have to come up with something pretty. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for being an all-around amazing beauty blogger!
Wow, I love the combination. It looks awesome, kind of magical in a witchy way :D
ReplyDeleteThis was my first flakie too and I never tire of seeing it swatched :) It's such a chameleon and takes on different shades depending what it's swatched over! I love that!
ReplyDeleteI also have 51 that came to me just by pot luck - I needed to put a few more in my Nfu Oh order and just had no idea which of the flakes to pick. I got lucky! And for your base - well I just ADORE that SR shade - it's so amazing - but then I am in love with SR shades usually. There current Water collection is something I am drooling over!
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, this combination is beautiful! Simply divine.
ReplyDeleteI bought some Nfu Oh flakies a long time ago - I wish I could like them, but it never happend. :(
ReplyDeleteBut the bottles are too lovely to give them away.
Is it the gooey formula that takes 900 years to dry? lol
DeleteAll my Nfu-Oh's take sooo long to dry.
DeleteThis is a beautiful combo!
ReplyDeleteI really like this combo! Nice!
ReplyDeleteReally nice!
ReplyDeleteWell that just makes me feel awesome, because I JUST bought this - unknowing that it is such a stunner! I cannot stop looking at my nails, it is serious love. I'm not a flakie fan at heart but this is a whole other beast.
ReplyDeleteI enjoy the combo over blue, nice twist :)
ooh I have both of these and will definitely have to try this soon! Beautiful
ReplyDeleteThat is just way too pretty to be real! *wipes drool*
ReplyDeleteThat is a stunning combination!
ReplyDeleteReally pretty, to say the least!
ReplyDeletedammit i thought i've finally quelled my lemmings for nfu oh with zoya flecks and essie shine of the times, but.. you're making me cave .__.
ReplyDeletei need nfu oh 51.
I don't know if you have time to reply, but what dupes of Nfu Oh polishes are out there? Flakies, I mean.
ReplyDeleteWhen you layer the Nfu Oh flakies over a darker base color, almost any other flake polish with the same color flakes (like red-orange or blue-green) becomes a dupe for them. When worn alone, the jelly/tinted base ones are harder to find exact matches for, but are all basically just the same flakes in different sheer bases.
DeleteThis is amazing looking. I think i have to buy it!
ReplyDeleteBeautifully paired with the blue, this has so much great depth to it!
ReplyDeleteI've got 51 on at the moment. I layered over 14 (yes, 14) different colours on a wheel and couldn't get it to look this good so gave up and wore it solo! lol
ReplyDeleteWow! This is one of my favorite polish combos I have seen in a long time.
ReplyDeletethere are no word to describe how awesome this is. Looks lovely on you!
ReplyDeleteI need a new bottle of #51. Mine is almost all gone. It is really pretty over as you said, the deep blues/deep purples.
