Much to my great excitement, Physicians Formula has added a handful of new items to their permanent Happy Booster line. If you recall, last year I was really ridiculously excited about the release of the Happy Booster collection, so I'm super happy to see this year's new products. Right now I only have the two new lipsticks, but I also saw a section for a couple of new bronzers and blushes on the display.
These are the two new Physicians Formula Happy Booster Mood and Glow Boosting Lipsticks. The shades are I ♥ Nude and I ♥ Rose.
...And the caps are clear on the top so you can see the color and design.
I Love Nude on the left, I Love Rose on the right.
If you take a closer look at the adorable heart design, you'll see that it is actually a little bit sloppy. It definitely looks cuter from a distance. Mine had some dents and dings, some funny oily spots and just an overall sloppy construction.
Swatched heavily, natural light. I Love Rose on the left, I Love Nude on the right.
I ♥ Nude
I ♥ Rose
- Cute packaging as always.
- Cute heart shaped layered design.
- Perfect for Valentine's Day.
- Not limited edition.
- Available at most drugstores.
- I love how bright and bold the colors are.
- Comfortable feeling formula.
What I didn't like:
- The colors are hard to wear because they look really dry and cakey on the lips, even if your lips don't seem dry before you apply them. They're kinda chalky/milky colors, too, which makes them settle into lip lines and look even more dry.
- The construction is pretty shoddy. The tubes are loose and they rattle, the caps don't fit tightly, the design is sloppy, and if you have the lipstick twisted up only a very little bit, it will get smashed in the cap.
- The violet scent is nice, but it smells pretty generic, reminds me of old Avon lipstick samples or something like that. It doesn't smell the same as the sweet and delicate violet that's in the Happy Booster powders.
- They're really expensive for drugstore lipstick. I paid nearly $10 each for these.
- The heart design gets ruined/smudged the first time you use them.
- The name I Love (heart?) Nude is a little deceptive as it's not nude, it's orange.
Overall, I like them, they're cute, they're fun, but they're not flawless. I'm really disappointed by the construction of the tubes and the sloppiness of the design. For $10+ each, depending on where you buy them, I expected a higher quality product. Plus, even though the formula isn't drying, it looks dry on my lips. Very cakey/chalky going on and it makes my lips look like they're chapped and flaky. But, I still like them for the novelty factor and I really do like the colors, so I'll probably stick to applying these over a lipliner or a lipstick primer to help ease the chalky looking finish. The heart design and the shiny package make these lipsticks irresistible to me, especially this time of year.
Great review! I've been lemming I <3 Nude, after I saw swatches. But $10 is a little pricey for a drugstore product, I've been trying to wait for a coupon or sale. I think I'm gonna hold of, afterall I dont NEED it lol
ReplyDeleteLast year they had $1, or maybe it was $3 off coupons on everything, I'm guessing they'll do the same sometime this year too!
DeleteAt wal-mart right now you can get the lipstick & powder or blush for $10 Not sure on the color choices but mine are I <3 Rose lipstick & Translucent powder.
DeleteThe rose one is pretty, I think I'll wait on a coupon, too, and then go for it. The nude one definitely had me doing a confused puppy head tilt, though. That's not nude unless you're from Jersey Shore...
ReplyDeleteLOVE the inclusion of the DW still. I'm glad I'm not the only one who can't hear Rose and not think of her. And the Doctor. And the HEARTBREAK they put me through.
ReplyDeleteI love the "Doctor loves Rose" reference more than the lippies and everything! :)
ReplyDeleteThis had just made my day!
Exactly what I was going to write. :D
DeleteOMG!!! My husband and I are about 6 years tardy to the Doctor Who party, and we just watched the episode from the screencap last week on Netflix. I have literally not shut up to my husband about the scene in the picture and how the whole thing was so incredibly romantic/infuriating.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I love love love your blog, I've been reading it forever, and I'm sorry my first ever comment is me geeking out and going on about how I'm a Doctor/Rose shipper. I promise I'll comment on proper content in the future. Thanks for doing what you do! :)
Aren't they darling?! I agree with you in regards to the packaging - it's very cheap, even by drugstore standards. I didn't experience any issues on the lips, and I was pretty surprised by how pigmented I ♥ Nude was on me.
ReplyDeletethat looks perfect! ..x
ReplyDeleteawww !!! they both look super cute the coral'e ! one looks awesome !!
ReplyDeleteOh THANKS for throwing that still in there...now I have to go watch those episodes again. (Agaaaaaaiiin). ALL OF THEM.
ReplyDeleteGreat review as always! Thanks.
ReplyDeleteThey are awfully cute! Too bad about the formula isn't that great....thx for your review!
ReplyDeleteThe texture looks really uncomfortable :( For the quality it looks way overpriced for $10
ReplyDeleteThese are very cute, but I probably won't spend the $10 each. Thanks for your great reviews! I miss David Tenant as "The Dr"...he was by far the best, along with the "Rose" story line. She just doesn't fit into her newer role as "Hannah" on "Secret Dairy of a Call Girl" :(
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to your China Glaze "colours from the capital swatches" and the new wet n' wild megalast polishes (if you didn't do them yet)!!
These are cute, but I LOOOOOOOOVE the Doctor Who picture!!
ReplyDeleteThey're both adorable. Shame it's not made well. I think I'd use a lipgloss over those.
ReplyDeleteYes! Doctor/Rose!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the pic of The Doctor and Rose! :D That's the FIRST thing I thought. I've totally been a Whovian since the new series... My parents played re-runs of Tom Baker when I was a kid, but I was too young to get it. :P
ReplyDeleteThis makes me want the lipstick, and I don't even wear it 90% of the time, but then most of your reviews make me feel this way.
oooh! thats super cute! those definitely lifted my mood!
ReplyDeleteHahaha... i'm not fussed with the colours... but you did make me laugh with the doctor who photo!
ReplyDeleteYay for doctor who.!!
ReplyDeleteBoo for overpriced junk
Hahaha "I <3 Rose" made me think of Rose Tyler, too!
ReplyDeleteThanks for your honest opinion on these, Scrangie! I read in another review that these were creamy. Hmm...but I trust you when you say that they felt dry when on your lips.
ReplyDeleteNow I'm not so sure if I'll get them. If I do, I'll have to consider layering them over a lip balm for moisture.
Could you post a photo of them AFTER you used them so we can see the heart design and how bad it looks? That would be really helpful :)
ReplyDeleteLooks pretty gross and smudgy, haha, but I'll try to remember to take a picture!
DeleteThanks for the review! I would've totally bought these based on the packaging and my love for PF products. These really did look dry swatched which was surprising. The Nude color looks more peachy to me than a true nude. Very thorough post.
ReplyDeleteOh I love the nude one.... I wish I could get them in Ireland.... dissapointed now...
ReplyDeleteGreets from Dublin!
xxx
They look super pigmented, I guess it's too bad they're dry-looking
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for the review and swatches!
ReplyDeleteCakey & Chalky - forget it for me. I seem to go into instant lip pealing in this past year no matter what lipstick I seem to put on but for Tarte Lip Surgence and my various lip balms - fav is Jack Black (any flavor but Mint). I did just get 2 lipsticks from It Cosmetics - fell for the old well I will try another and finally 2 lipsticks that look OK and stay on well plus don't start my lips pealing right off. I think I will skip spending $ on these above to try. Thanks for the review. I do like other PF products now and again.
ReplyDeleteSad that they look dry on you. I was really tempted to get these. Maybe not now.
ReplyDeleteHi there,
ReplyDeleteJust an FYI for all who like Physician Formula Bronzers. I went to pick up a few Buy 2 get 1 Free Wet n Wild Megalast Polishes at WALGREENS yesterday and found a Physician Formula display that had the Happy Booster Bronzers and the Mineral Bronzers with a Free Blush! The price was $13.99 for both! CVS had them priced $14.49 separately! I already have the happy one, so I grabbed the Mineral Pearl one...looks very nice, can't wait to try it!
AWESOME! Thanks for the tip, totally going to Walgreens today!
DeleteOnce again, I feel totally blessed/honored by the universe to find a fab beauty blogger who regularly crosses universes into my particulars of music/film/tv. THANKS!
ReplyDeleteClearly I'm feeling emo, since alls I had to do was glance at this picture of Rose/The Doctor, and I started reminiscing about how hard it was for me to let go of David Tennant's Doctor, and started tearing up. I've never gotten over this ending, unlike the ending of so many other books/series/etc.
Also, thanks for your review of these- I *almost* bought them today.
