Did you know there was a new Muppets movie coming out? I didn't! It opens on November 23rd, and OPI has released an entire collection of Muppet-themed nail polish to go along with it. There are twelve shades; six glitters and six shimmers, in traditional OPI Holiday collection fashion. The shades are:
OPI Animal-istic. This is a really interesting red. It has a warm and coral-like base to it, but it has several colors of iridescent color-shifting shimmer which alter the look of the polish depending on the light. Sometimes it looks tomato red, sometimes cool pink-red and sometimes orangey-coral red. The shimmer is very bright and has lots of multichrome color shift.
OPI Designer, de Better! This one is a surprise- it's a unique foil! And it's gorgeous to boot. It has a pale champagne-taupe foil base with orange copper foil sparkle particles. If you were to take OPI Extra-Va-Vaganza and pulverize it into a fine powder, this is probably what it would look like. Really shiny and beautiful with sparkly orange accents.
OPI Divine Swine. This is small, round purple glitter and medium sized silver hexagon shaped glitter in a clear base. It's sheer.
OPI Excuse Moi. Hands down, my favorite of the collection. It's a warm candy pink tinted base with tiny silver and pink microglitter accented by medium round multicolor glitter. There's silver, yellow, red, orange, green, pink and blue. It looks like sprinkles and sparkles like crazy.
OPI Fresh Frog of Bel Air. This one is small, bright grass green glitter and medium silver hexagon glitter in a clear base. It is also sheer, best for layering.
OPI Gettin' Miss Piggy With It! This one is slightly more interesting than the rest of the sheer glitters. It's tiny ruby red glitter and medium silver hex glitter in a clear base, but it also has a bit of hot magenta hex glitter to give it a little more depth. The magenta glitter is the same size as the silver. Still sheer, though.
OPI Gone Gonzo! Light shiny blue glitter and medium silver hexagon glitter in a clear base. Sheer.
OPI Meep-Meep-Meep. Another interesting red. This one is a purple-tinged deep raspberry red with tons of broken flake shimmer. The little flake glitter particles are highly sparkly and shift colors from pink to violet to gold. It dries a little funny; it's like the flakes sink into the base and leave little holes. I'd recommend two coats of topcoat to even out the surface of this one.
OPI Pepe's Purple Passion. A medium to dark raisin-mauve colored creme base with tiny flakes of iridescent glitter. The little broken flakes in this seem like the same ones that are in Meep-Meep-Meep. They flash pink, purple and gold, though the gold seems most prominent in this one.
OPI Rainbow Connection. Pardon the thick polish in these pictures. The glitter in this had some weird clumping problems when I applied it, so it's thicker than it should be. This is small, round multicolor glitter and larger hexagon multicolor glitter in a clear base. It is somewhat similar to Deborah Lippmann Happy Birthday, but it's not an exact replica. This applies similarly, though- the glitter sticks together in strange ways so I had to push it around my nail instead of painting it on like a normal polish.
OPI Warm & Fozzie. Such a cool color! Though, for some reason it keeps turning out too dark looking in every picture I take of it. It's at least a shade lighter in real life. It's a very complex shade. It's made up of distinct shiny foil particles in many different colors. There's pink, gold with green duochrome, bronze brown that shifts to gold and at some angles it even looks like there's a purple/red particle in there. The whole polish has an overall gold duochrome color shift in addition to being made up of individual multicolored duochrome particles. Similar in finish to OPI Pros & Bronze.
OPI Wocka Wocka! This is the least complex of the reds, but it's still pretty nice. It's a vibrant blue-toned red with very fine gold-based multichromatic shimmer. In some lights, the shimmer almost seems holographic. The main color shift is pink to gold, but when you look closely in full sunlight, there's some even smaller shimmer that flashes even more colors. The shimmer is subtle, though, so the duochrome isn't the main focus of the polish.
The formula on these was okay. The six shimmer shades were perfect, pretty much everything I could ask for in a shimmer formula. The six glitters were not as good. Excuse Moi was perfect, but the sheer ones were runny and tricky to apply. I did three coats of each color, but only the sheer glitters needed three. In fact, they would really need four or five if you want full opacity. Dry time was good on all.
Overall, it seems typical of an OPI holiday collection. Heavy on the reds and glitters. The reds this year are better than usual, but I'm really not too keen on the glitters. I thought they would have colored bases, but I guess I was wrong! Normally I'm all about glitter, but the sheer ones just aren't doing it for me. They're really only good for layering. Excuse Moi is the exception; it's perfectly opaque in two coats and looks amazing with all those different colors shining in it.
I really love The Muppets, so I have to give them extra points on the theme. But who doesn't love the Muppets, you know?
My top picks are Excuse Moi, Warm and Fozzie, Designer de Better, Meep-Meep-Meep, Animal-istic and Gettin' Miss Piggy With It. The rest of the glitters aren't unique, opaque or complex enough for me to really feel excited about them. The shimmers are all fantastic, though. I like that tiny broken flake stuff they used in them. Worth checking out in person so you can see how shiny and iridescent it looks.
This collection is available now.

YAY! I love the Muppets - where do you suggest we find these? I know there are probably places online that are way cheaper than stores...
ReplyDeleteMrswish, You know, there really aren't anymore! All the online places stopped selling OPI. Huge bummer, but they do go on sale at Ulta pretty frequently.
ReplyDeleteI love Rainbow Connection! It's the only one that really appeal to me.
ReplyDeleteI would have loved Divine Swine (and all of the other glitters) if it wasn't sheer. :(
Thank you for sharing this with us! I saw these on some other blogs, but I couldn't wait for you to review them since your pictures are THE BEST and your review is very detailed. I love how you explain everything. :)
Your swatches are beautiful, as always Scrangie :)
ReplyDeleteYet another disappointing collection from OPI. They had an entire spectrum of color to work with, yet half of the polishes are reds. Pepe has nothing to do with purple. Beaker has nothing to do with red. Excuse Moi is spectacular, I'll give it that. They could have done much better...
I'm with you, those glitters are less than fabulous. They all look really lumpy and patchy, and I don't like the outsize silver hex glitters just lurking around in a pile of grit. They'd all be SO much better in a strongly tinted base...
ReplyDeleteI only picked up Designer, de Better, but I might go back for Pepe's Purple Passion after seeing it on your nails. It's so pretty!
ReplyDeleteUntil I saw your swatches, I thought Warm & Fozzie and Pepe's purple passion were very blah but now I'm in love!
ReplyDeletejust a sidenote, it's Excuse Mo! as in Mo the Muppet...
ReplyDeleteI got the purple, blue and green glitters two weeks back and I'm in love, but I do def think they are for layering only. I don't like the way they look built up.
But seeing these swatches, I'm def wanting to buy Excuse Mo! which I was on the fence about
They all look lovely on you -- I'm so glad they made this collection! The glitters don't bother me a ton, but I like layering things up.
ReplyDeleteJennifer, wow, thank you!! What a nice thing to say!
ReplyDeleteLacquerbitten, I hear you on that... Sometimes I'm puzzled by OPI's names versus the colors they actually are!
Vie Silencieuse, actually, my bottle and the press release say Excuse Moi!, so I don't think it's supposed to be Excuse Mo. And Excuse Moi is one of Miss Piggy's catchphrases, so I'm sure it's a Miss Piggy polish!
Got Warm&Fozzie and love it!!!! However, I'm totally disappointed by the glitters - was expecting more.
ReplyDeleteYou always have the best swatches. I patiently wait for yours and yours only to convince me to buy a polish.
ReplyDeleteThanks and <3st.
I really like all the shimmers as well and while I like the glitters I can't decide if I like the chunky silver glitter pieces in them or not...it just seems a bit off or something:/
ReplyDeleteI wasn't expecting to be so underwhelmed by this collection, but there you have it. Like you, Excuse Moi was my definite favorite, but then Warm and Fozzie swatches started popping up, and I decided to go with the mini set, since it has both, and I'm not likely to wear either of them often enough that I need a full size bottle.
ReplyDeleteI like the glitters when used as layering polishes. They add a nice amount of bling. Rainbow Connection and Warm & Fozzie are my favourites. :)
ReplyDeletewocka wocka looks so much like an affair in red square... like the meep 3x :)
ReplyDeleteOPI Warm & Fozzie is stunning and I love the name Gettin' Miss Piggy With It, so cute!
ReplyDeleteI must say you have the best descriptions and phots of this collection. It makes it very easy to narrow down the ones I want with your help. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteYour swatches are lovely! I was so excited about this collection when I saw the promo pics, but with every swatch I see, I get more and more convinced that I can skip it. Those glitters are the most disappointing of all. :-(
ReplyDeleteI love Wocka Wocka out of all shades!!!
ReplyDeleteThese are great swatches! You really helped me decide what to pick up from my stores earlier tonight. This area didn't get the collection in until Monday, and the initial shipments at those stores are almost gone already. I LOVE the Muppets and have been eagerly awaiting these. I can't wait to try Warm & Fozzie, especially!
ReplyDeleteFor those of you looking to save a few $s on this collection-- My area JCPenney's had them on sale, BOGO 50% off. So say you buy 4 polishes, you essentially are getting one free. I assume that's a national promotion.
Ulta also had three different two-packs with toe separators for $14.95 each, so that saves a couple bucks. The combos I got were Rainbow Connection/Excuse Moi! and Animal-istic/Getting Missy Piggy With It. The third had Pepe's Purple Passion included; I can't remember the 2nd color because I wasn't after the Pepe polish. Hope this helps someone!
I want all glitters from this collection :)
ReplyDeletehow does warm & fozzie compare with zoya's faye? the bottle colors look similar
ReplyDeleteYour swatches are the first ones that have made me want a few of those! There are a lot of chunky glitter and I'm kinda over that whole thing at the moment. Otherwise, there are some really interesting colors.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the swatches!! I bought Warm and Fozzie and Designer de Better, but seeing your post makes me want Excuse Moi! I had no idea it was so different; I thought it was just like the other glitters in this collection. I'm wearing Designer de Better right now, and loving it!
ReplyDeleteI wanted all the glitters, Warm & Fozzie and Pepe's Purple Passion. I told my girlfriend about them. She said she'd buy them for me. Well I didn't tell her which ones. She decided to suprise me by going to Image Beauty & buying the whole collection. I had to pay her for the whole collection. Didn't really want them all but now I have them all. I'm wearing Meep Meep Meep with an accent finger with Rainbow Connection. Love it.
ReplyDeleteI love Pepe's Purple Passion and Wocka Wocka! How does Meep Meep Meep compare to The One That Got Away? In the bottle they look very similar. Are they different enough to own both?
ReplyDeletei think i'm getting the mini collection as a stocking stuffer from my mom (warm and fozzie, wocka wocka, excuse moi, and designer de better) - and i'm pretty pumped. i wasn't going to get any of these myself, but if i was to get some as gifts, those are the ones i'd want!
ReplyDeleteespecially warm and fozzie... thanks for the swatches, because i don't think i'd have been at all interested in that one before seeing it swatched!
Your picks are the same as mine are. I find in Meep-Meep-Meep whatever it is they used for the 'glitter' in it is not really glitter like in last yrs' Burlesque. It's more like pieces of plastic that give it that weight you refer to making the rough top finish and the sinking in of the glitter that is not really quite glitter. I could have done without most of this collection. I miss the great old OPI Holiday sets and want to see them go back to those. I would look forward to those collections all yr long - there always were some major greats in them. What's the deal OPI??? No longer politically correct to release a holiday collection? Oh and enough - we get it - glitter - but we all probably have enough - you can only wear it so often and getting it off is way too much work. Every drug store brand has the same for less than half the price. Enough of the glitters with every collection all year long - we know you think you hit on a big deal with Alice In Wonderland a yr ago! Enough already.
ReplyDeleteThanks Scrangie. Your pictures are fab, as always. X
ReplyDeleteHey Scrangie, do you have swatches for the OPI Ulta holiday 2011 exclusives?
ReplyDeleteI love Design...de Better! I think it looks great with my skin tone! and if you are wearing rings it only helps with bringing out the shine!
