Comparison: Wet n Wild ColorIcon Ice Baby Glitters versus Nails Inc. Special Effects 3D Glitters

I recently ordered two more of those amazing Nails Inc. Special Effects 3D glitters. In a strange twist of fate, the very next day I learn that Wet n Wild had just released a collection of glitters, containing at least two, if not three, less than half price dupes of the Nails Inc. Special Effects (thanks for the heads up, Mimi!).

The first Walgreens I walked into had the entire Wet n Wild ColorIcon Ice Baby glitter collection. What luck! I picked up the whole collection (which I'll be reviewing soon), including the Nails Inc clones. Take a look at how close they are:

This is:
Index and ring finger: Wet n Wild ColorIcon Nail Color in Back Alley Deals
Middle and pinkie finger: Nails Inc Special Effects 3D Glitter in Bloomsbury Square
Three coats each plus topcoat.

This one is an exact match. They are indistinguishable from each other on the nail. Same color, same size glitter, same gritty texture. There is, however, one difference worth mentioning: The formula. The Wet n Wild formula is actually better than the Nails Inc. on this one. It's thinner, smoother and easier to spread, though it is still a super chunky glitter polish. Both shades would benefit from a little polish thinner.

This is:
Index and ring finger: Wet n Wild ColorIcon Nail Color in Believe Me, It's Real.
Middle and pinkie finger: Nails Inc Special Effects 3D Glitters in Connaught Square
Three coats each plus topcoat.

These two are not exact matches, but they're close enough. The only difference in these, apart from the formula, is that the base color of Connaught Square is darker. Not so different that you'd need to have both colors, but dark enough to notice that there's a difference when you look at them side by side.

I don't have the Nails Inc Special Effects glitter in Sloane Square, but I firmly suspect that this color is going to be a pretty close copy of it:

Wet n Wild ColorIcon Nail Color in Diamond In The Rough.

There's also a teal and green glitter that might look a bit like this:
Nails Inc. Special Effects 3D Glitter in Fitzroy Square.

But I didn't swatch them together. They didn't seem like dupes at first glance, but judging from the other three colors, they probably are on the nail. The Wet n Wild shade that looks similar to this is called Cost Is No Issue.

So... Nails Inc., $9.50. Wet n Wild, around $3. Plus, the Wet n Wild bottles, while they seem smaller, actually contain 0.01 fluid ounce more of polish than the Nails Inc. Take your pick. Both are good. One is just less expensive and probably limited edition.

  1. Awesome post! Thank you! I couldn't help but notice that the new Lippmann mini set - the dance one? - seems dupey as well.

  3. Gorgeous! I can't believe how similar they are. I'm definitely going to check walgreens today for Diamond in the Rough.

  4. Thank you for this post! It's great to know that they're EXACT dupes! I couldn't tell any difference at all!

  6. Gosh darn it, just got Connaught Square in my Sephora F&F order. Ah well, at least I only got the one! lol

  7. Yay thanks for sharing this! now I don't need to get the Nails Inc since I have the WnW!!!

  8. I am so envious of these W n W's. We can only buy the boring ones here. :/

  9. Your top coat on your Wet n' Wilds looks great! I used Believe Me, It's Real the other day, and it literally ate two layers of top coat. I could not get rid of that uneven glitter bumpiness. Any tips?

  10. I´m so happy I picked up Back Alley Deals when I was in the US. It´s still untried, but after seeing this, I will have to wear it soon. It´s even more awesome than I already thought.

  11. Jbrobeck, they definitely look similar! Will have to see them in person to say for sure, but they're totally on the same wavelength!

Krissy, I hope you find it, it's really pretty!

    Jennifer, you're welcome :)

Tiffany, I know, I bought them too. *sigh* Well, now I have backups! Haha!

Cassykins, haha, I can't believe I saw these the day after I bought my Nails Incs. I should have known that SOMEONE was going to dupe them soon, just like it always happens...

    Carly, money saved!!

Rainbowify me, aw, I'm sorry :( I don't know why they don't sell them everywhere!

Nails It., thanks! It probably looks good because most of the colors are still wet. When I wore them, I did three or four coats of topcoat, no joke. When I first applied them, I did a coat of Gelous and then one of Seche Vite. The next day I did two more coats of Gelous on top and then it was perfectly smooth. These are sandpaper city!

Miranda, I'm so glad you were able to get it, it's SO NICE.

  12. Thanks for posting this, all of these are so pretty! Great to know that the Wet n Wild are so close to the Nails inc but are cheaper! I'll be keeping my eye out for these for sure.

  13. Wow, I couldn't even tell a difference in color in the first set of pictures. I've been wanting the Nails Inc. glitters but I'm all about getting the Wet n' Wild colors now! I'm sure they'll be a pain in the neck to remove, but with colors like that, it's not that big of a deal.

  14. I have been eyeing the Nails Inc. polishes but after seeing your post, I'll pass on them. I have the W-N-W Ice Baby collection and I don't need both. Couldn't afford them, anyway. lol

In my experience, the W-N-W polishes definitely benefited from a good thinner dump and shakeshakeshake. Letting them stand overnight after thinning them seemed to further improve the formula. But everyone's MMV. :)

  17. Yippeee! I saved money! Always a happy thing next to totally awesome polish. There was no resistance; I got the entire set of Ice Baby.

  18. Wow. I can't tell any of those apart. I'm glad I was able to get my hands on the WnW polishes - so much cheaper.

  19. Oo, that teal is tempting, but I'm not up for sandpaper nails...and if I put on more than three total layers of polish and top coat combined, it will invariably peel off my nails in giant sheets by the end of day 1. Probably will pass on these, but thanks for the gorj swatches!

  20. Yaaaaay. Thank you for this post! Now I don't have to bother buying the nails inc polishes. Though this does show me I need to go back to walgreens and clean out the rest of the display for backups...

  24. Some of these also look like they might be close matches to the new Deborah Lippmann mini set that's exclusive to Nordstrom. I'm so bummed the WnW's are no where to be found on the east coast :(

    ReplyDelete
  25. Okay, I was so not supposed to buy any more polish but those WnW ones are gorgeous and cheap! I cannot say no.

    ReplyDelete
  26. As soon as I saw this post last night I wanted to jump out of bed and go buy them!! I stopped this morning on the way to work and bought the whole collection!! I can't wait to try them all!

  28. And chicks, if your Walgreen's has a beauty counter where they check you out, ask nicely if they have any coupons. The lady who works at my Walgreen's gave me a $1 off coupon! $2 for this polish? Thank you, I'll take more!

  29. I was at Ulta last night and there are some Piggy Polishes that look like dupes too! I bought Among the Stars, which from your pictures looks just like Bloomsbury Square/Back Alley Deal

  30. I picked up Back Alley Deals recently. I was freaking shocked to find a LE WNW polish collection near me! The Walgreens here almost never stock that stuff.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Ohhhh gorgeous!! I need these! Haha. Are these WnWs exclusive to certain stores or to the US? I haven't been able to find them in Vancouver, Canada at Walmart.

  32. guess good things come to those who wait...:) i had been drooling over the nails inc colors but for some reason i just never picked them up cause i wanted to wait for a coupon or sale or something. after seeing this post i ran out to all the walgreens i could find and they were all sold out. just as i was about to give up hope, i drove by a random walgreens i never noticed before, so i pulled in and sure enough, they had the whole collection!! totally made my weekend :) thanks for the post!
