This has been one glitter-heavy season for nail polish collections, hasn't it? Not that that's a bad thing, of course... You know me, never enough glitter. Anyway, this particular collection is called Eye Candy, and that it is. It's a set of six "3D" glitters (glitters which are a mix of different kinds of glitter) from China Glaze that are opaque enough to wear solo.
China Glaze Blonde Bombshell. This is a clear base with superfine light, yellowy gold microglitter, sparse gold stringy/bar glitter and small (but larger than the other particles) round yellowy gold glitter. The stringy glitter is subtle, but adds a nice touch to what is otherwise a standard gold glitter. It's really pretty and sparkly, but probably my least favorite of the set. There's nothing wrong with it, it's just that there's so many gold glitters in clear bases, it needs to stand out a little more to be interesting to me. The stringy glitter helps with that, but it's not the dominant glitter in the polish, so you hardly notice it.
China Glaze Lorelei's Tiara. This is a very fine silver microglitter in a clear base with a sprinkling of small, round aqua blue glitter. Very pretty and icy looking, isn't it? It almost looks like a foil because of how fine the base glitter is. The little glints of blue are perfect. I'm sure this is named after Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, but all I think of is that Styx song. That, or Lorelei of the Rhine.
China Glaze Love Marilyn. Yes, this looks a bit like OPI Gettin' Miss Piggy With It!, but in my opinion, it's better. This is a small, bright red glitter and a larger, but still small round silver glitter in a clear base. It lacks the large hex glitter and the magenta glitter of the OPI. China Glaze Love Marilyn is nice and opaque and looks very rich and very red on the nails. The color distribution is more even in this one, only slightly less silver than red. Definitely prefer this one.
China Glaze Marry a Millionaire. This one is a mix of small, round, light lavender glitter plus fine stringy/bar glitter in a gold/green/blue multichrome color. At some angles it looks like there's some dark purple glitter in here, too, but I'm having a hard time picking out the individual particles. The stringy glitter is dominant in this one. Very complex and interesting! And opaque enough to wear it by itself instead of being topcoat-sheer like a lot of stringy glitters tend to be.
China Glaze Material Girl. This is a light rose-pink superfine microglitter, a small/medium, round rose pink regular glitter and a larger/medium hologram hexagon glitter in a clear base. I love the glitter configuration in this- the micro, small and medium particles are well balanced and really do give a 3D effect. My only complaint is the color. It seems like almost every pink glitter in my collection, from any brand, is this color. Does pink glitter come in only one shade or something? It looks similar to Pom Pom from the Specialty Glitters collection. I like the way this looks, but I'd really like to see other shades of pink glitter.
China Glaze Some Like It Haute. Oh yes... yes they do. Man, is this one intensely gorgeous polish. I know there are two or three other similar glitters out right now, but I like this one the best out of them. It's superfine black, blue-gunmetal and charcoal microglitter and larger round holographic glitter in a clear base. It goes on so easily and the microglitter combines with the holographic glitter to give it so much depth and insane sparkle. Definitely my favorite in the collection. It's not lumpy, it doesn't bubble, and the holographic shine looks like fireworks on the dark microglitter base.
The formula on these was good. Some shades are a little on the thick side, but not like the Wet n Wild Ice Baby or Nails Inc. Specialty glitters. I had zero trouble with application. I did three coats of all, but most were almost completely opaque in two. I used one coat of topcoat, but they could probably use a second to give them a glassy, smooth finish. Dry time wasn't bad, either. My only disclaimer about the formula is to wait a minute or two in between coats so the glitter doesn't clump because of the thicker base in these.
Overall, I wish a few of the colors had more to them and that these weren't so close to other colors, but I still like them. The formula was a breeze to apply compared to a lot of the new glitters I've been swatching lately. Everything lies nice and flat and they don't need a gallon of topcoat to smooth them. If you were disappointed by the sheer glitters in the OPI Muppets collection, definitely check these out. There's a lot of sparkle and brightness to these and you don't have to worry about doing 76 coats to get them to cover. Two to three coats of glitter, and a coat or two of topcoat is all they need.

Lorelei's Tiara is gorgeous color
ReplyDeleteAmazing swatches as usual, Scrangie. :)
ReplyDeleteMarry a Millionaire is the one from this collection that I've had my eye on since the promo pictures surfaced. And on your nails, it does look really nice.
Thanks for reviewing and swatching these.
Oh my lord!
ReplyDeleteWhat is the deal with all these glitter polishes? These remind me a LOT of the WnW Iconic polishes. And the OPI colors. And one of the Orly colors. Do all the polish companies get together and agree they're going to throw certain things at until we're totally over them (read: crackle)? But...with that said, I really like Love Marilyn.
ReplyDeleteI ordered Lorelei's Tiara and Some Like It Haute today! Can't wait to get them! They are soooo pretty!
ReplyDeleteScrangie;
ReplyDeleteI a addicted in your blog, is so so amazing and have the most wishes nail lacquers of the world!!
you (and china glaze) drive me craazy for this new glitter collection!! So so Shinning!!
Congratz for the blog, nice opinions and for so perfect nails!!
These are fabulous! Love the red and blue polishes!!
ReplyDeleteno way that's a loads of glitter! want them all!!!! all of them really! and the shades were so stunningly beautiful. if you get bored of them, I will take care of these babies for you! ;)
ReplyDeleteand I am in love!
ReplyDeleteI went to Sally's on Saturday and got 3 of these. They seem to only be carrying 4 of the colors. I need to get my hands on Marry A Millionaire!!!!!! :)
ReplyDeleteOMGGG! I looove them:X
ReplyDeletei loooove the first 3 glitters, so pretty!
ReplyDeleteI agree on the one-note pink shade. It's getting boring. I wasn't going to get the gold one (I did get them all) but since it was buy 2 get one free, I went ahead and got it.
ReplyDeleteThanks for showing us these swatches. It's glitter porn!!! ;P
I am so happy I checked out your blog this morning! I was just about to place an order at 8ty8 and I was going to get Tinsel Town, but I fell in love with Some Like it Haute- and they are to similar for me to have both lol. Although it probably would have been dupeable with snowglobe on top.
ReplyDeleteI love this collection! While I really love to look and drool over glitters, they're such a pain in the rear to remove, I almost never bother with them. I made an exception for the Nicole by OPI holiday glitters, but hated myself for it when it came time for removal. While I love these, I probably won't buy them. :\
ReplyDeleteThese are all gorgeous but the only one I feel like I MUST have is loreleis tiara, and maybe some like it haute. Could u do a comparison btwn some like it haute and Orly rock solid?
ReplyDeleteJUST got Some Like it Haute the other day, and it is indeed gorgeous. It seems like the same exact polish almost as their xmas "Tinsel Town," only with the little hex glitters as holo instead of silver. For me, both are must-haves, even if they do eat top coat.
ReplyDeleteAlso : I'm not into purple and I usually hate bar glitter, but Marry a Millionaire looks pretty nice! Maybe there's a higher concentration of it? Or the bars are shorter? Either way, this is 10x better looking than Zoya's recent bar glitters, which (like almost all of them) look like sparkly haystacks on your fingers.
Pretty, and just in time for the holidays!!
ReplyDeleteNeutrakris, There's a "foil method" of removal somewhere on the internet where you take strips of aluminum foil, cotton balls, and nail polish remover, soak the cotton balls in polish remover, put one on each nail and wrap your fingers with the foil (pinching at the tips) to lock in the remover, let them sit for about 5 minutes then twist as you pull them off and the polish is gone! Seriously changed my outlook on glitters!
ReplyDeleteP.S. I NEED these! I bought all the WnW ones, and am in love!
Thank you so much for the swatches! I always find your reviews to be super detailed and useful, so I like to try to wait until I've seen what you have to say before buying new polishes. But this time I got impatient, and ended up ordering Marry a Millionaire and Some Like It Haute yesterday. Now that I've seen your swatches, I'm glad I did! I'm so much more excited about these than I was about the Muppets glitters.
ReplyDeleteI love love love the current glitter glut that's going on now. I can't decide which I want to get - I think I want them all!!!!
ReplyDeleteI saw these swatched yesterday on another blog. I like Material Girl. The rest I just didn't want to order. I did buy the WetnWild Coloricon collection. I also have that huge collection of flitters China Glaze brought out a few years ago. Do I need any more glitters?
ReplyDeleteI love Lorelei's Tiara! I just got three of them yesterday! I wish i had also gotten Marry a Millionaire!
ReplyDelete@some of these comments....Tinsel Town and Some Like It Haute are not even close to being dupes...just sayin' :)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful glitter colours:)
ReplyDeleteLove Marilyn looks way better than the OPI :)
ReplyDeleteSome Like It Haute looks hot!
Don't get me wrong, I like glitter, but I'm about to throw up from all the glitter lately. But these are nice, I'm not so sure I'll be picking any of them up.
ReplyDeleteI have been looking at your blog for a while now. I have this nail polish (me and my mom think it's a top coat) from China Glaze...it's holiday themed (like red and green sparkles) and it's called Party Hearty. Do you have that? And also...how and where do you store your nail polish?
ReplyDeleteDo you know why two colors have black tops but the rest have silver? Seems odd. Maybe they'll be perm?
ReplyDeleteI went to the Ulta on State Street after work to pick up Tinsel Town, and... well, they also had these babies out and China Glaze was buy two get one free. Sigh.
ReplyDeleteI really wanted Some Like It Haute and Lorelai's Tiara, but they were out of LT. And Marry a Millionaire, which was a 'maybe' for me. I ended up with SLIH, Tinsel Town (they look similar, but DEFINITELY different enough to have both - granted, I haven't swatched yet... I ended up getting Love Marilyn for my other one, and I think I'll really like it. (And yes, I was checking your swatches/review while in the store!)
Hey, so how would you say "Some Like It Haute" compares to Tinsel Town from the Let It Snow collection ?
ReplyDeleteI cant decide btw the two !
You have a picture thief. I put a comment on her page telling her to link back to you. Here is her link. http://wen-xoxo.livejournal.com/3873.html
