Two fall collections from Orly? I like it when that happens. This is the slightly less interesting of the two, but that doesn't mean it's boring. It's quite good, actually. See for yourself.
Fowl Play. The star of the collection. A very strange polish as well. It's a dark warm purple jelly base with red/green duochrome flakes, blue glitter, silver microglitter, and a little bit of opal glitter. At first it reminded me of OPI Merry Midnight, and it is very similar, but there's so much more stuff in here. Really random assortment of colors and glitter textures. I'm rather fond of it and I can see this one being pretty popular for fall.
Lucky Duck. Medium jade green creme. Nice color, smooth application. Not much else to say about it.
Seagurl. This one is really cool, too. It's a dark grey base with silver and gold shimmer. It gives the polish an almost greenish metallic shimmer finish. Super gorgeous, lots of depth.
Peachy Parrot. Kind of a... coralish... frosty thing.
Nite Owl. Seriously! Three awesome shimmery/glittery polishes right on the heels of Mineral FX? Did we do something good this year? Anyway, this is a light putty/taupe (or is it greige?) creme with some tiny silver microglitter. I don't have another polish quite like this, it looks really different from all the taupe/greige cremes that have been coming out lately.
Sweet Peacock. This is a blue foil, but it has a different texture than most foils. It has some rougher bits which add a more sparkling, diamond-studded kind of look. Like... some of the silver foil base is chunkier and doesn't take on as much blue color, so those pieces stand out more and look shiny. It looks rough but it doesn't feel rough, which is also unusual.
The formula on these was okay. They're a little thick and runny (what I refer to as three free syndrome) but application was still fairly easy. The brushes are nice and even, so it's easier to control the formula. The drying time is really long, though. I seem to always experience a long dry time with Orly formula even when using a quick dry topcoat like my beloved Seche Vite. I recommend letting these dry for a minute or two in between coats to help with the longer than average dry time.
Overall, great set of colors. Fowl Play is just awesome, and so are Seagurl and Nite Owl. The other shades are good too, but not really as interesting as the other three. We have blue foils, green cremes and peach/coral frosts coming out the wazoo, so my eye is naturally drawn to the colors that I haven't seen quite so often, like the purple jelly with glitter and flakes.
Wish they dried faster for me, but other than that I don't really have any complaints.
These are available now; I've seen the display at Ulta and CVS so far.
(These were sent to me for review.)

I tend toward kind of shouty colors - blues! greens! MORE BIG GLITTER, PLS. I mix my own polishes just so I can maximize the type and amount and variety of contrasting sparkly bits. But oddly...I'm really digging Nite Owl! That's a fantastic neutral with enough going on that it isn't boring. Do wish they'd done more like Fowl Play in different colors, though...
ReplyDeleteDefinitely my favorite color is Nite Owl, very special and unique ;)

ReplyDeleteFowl play it's definitely the best polish from the collection. Gotta have it!
ReplyDeleteLovely swatches! I already have Fowl Play and I loooooove it. But I've been meaning to pick up Nite Owl, and now I'll be adding Sea Gurl to my list too. ^_^
ReplyDeleteI just picked up Fowl Play today, but I really wanted the entire collection... I love these colors!
ReplyDeleteLovely swatches! But to me the colours look rather random.
ReplyDeleteI have OPI Merry Midnight, so I didn't bother looking for Fowl Play, but now I'm intrigued. Fowl Play has more glitter pieces and other stuff in it? I may have to see it in person to see if I need it.
ReplyDeleteReally, though, Nite Owl was the colour that made me go, "WHOA!" And usually I don't go for those kind of colours, but I like how it looks soft. I don't have too many 'soft' colours, so this is a good choice for me.
Thanks for swatching, Scrangie. :)
I purchased Sweet Peacock and I LOVED it. I wore it most of September. It seemed to glow on my fingers.
ReplyDeleteI really love Fowl Play and especially Nite Owl which would be totally new for me! I wasn't crazy about this when I seen it somewhere else, but you swatched it so nicely that I can really see how awesome they are! Love it!
ReplyDeletelove Fowl Play
ReplyDeleteFYI, Lucky Duck is basically a dupe for OPI Jade is the New Black and is also incredibly close to OPI Don't Mess with OPI - I swatched them both looking for a dupe.
ReplyDeleteThose are some super awesome pretty colors! ^_^
ReplyDeletePeachy Parrot confuses me--it's the "one of these things is not like the others" for me; I'm pretty sure I owned a Cutex dupe of that way back in the day. I like all the rest, though, and really should grab the ones I don't have already before they sell out.
ReplyDeleteOh man, I LOVE Nite Owl.. and Fowl Play, too. I think we must have all done something very good--more awesome colors, and lots of awesome posts from you! :)
ReplyDeleteI finally got Fowl Play, but I'm still going to get Nite Owl - it's such a beauty! I like Sea Gurl too. Lately I have been really loving Orly's collections!
ReplyDeleteHmm, is Nite Owl dupe-ish for Butter London's All Hail the Queen, do you think?
ReplyDeleteI picked up Sweet Peacock and 2 bottles of Fowl Play. Now I want Nite Owl! My poor wallet...
ReplyDeleteI actually really like this collection. The stars for me have to be Fowl Play and Sea Gurl!
ReplyDeletei actually really like these colors!!
ReplyDeleteI like these. I really like Night Owl.
ReplyDeleteSeagurl is calling to me,along with Night Owl and Sweet Peacock...holy blue foil! That's pretty!
ReplyDeleteLucky Duck and Night Owl are gorg
ReplyDeleteI'm curious how Nite Owl compares to Butter London's All Hail the Queen and Essie's Mochachino. Thoughts? I have both in my collection already and Nite Owl looks somewhat similar from the swatch. It's such a gorgeous polish, and definitely my taste, so I'm super drawn to it but I'm hesitant to have another polish so similar to the ones I already own.
ReplyDeleteNite Owl is my favorite! hihi I think the most of us like that nailpolish! I need to look for that one! ))
ReplyDeleteDefinitely my favorite color is Sweet Peacock
ReplyDeleteHehe, it's funny how we have the same tastes: both Lucky Duck and Peachy Parrot were "whatevers" to me, while I love Fowl Play, Nite Owl and Seagurl and I was happy to get Sweet Peacock because I didn't get any other blues of all those that were released this fall.
ReplyDeleteYour swatches are always my favorite to look at. Just beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI swear Nite Owl looks very similar to Butter London's All Hail The Queen; maybe it's a lower cost dupe! This would be great for me b/c I have All Hail The Queen and love it.
ReplyDeleteI like this collection better than Mineral FX, they are all so gorgeous and different from each other, and Orly's formula is perfect for me. I bought them all but Peachy Parrot. I will only buy 3 out of Mineral FX though, the graphite one, the red/orange one and the glittery/foil blue oh and maybe the red/wine shade, so..
ReplyDeleteI have to get Night Owl on my nails! End of story!
ReplyDeleteEssie Mochachino and Butter London All Hail The Queen, eh? I don't have either and I'm not familiar with them, so I'm going to go Googling right now! Thanks for the tips on those, from the sounds of it, I think I'll like them!
ReplyDeleteThanks everyone!
Nite Owl looks gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteSome really beautiful stuff in this collection! I ended up getting the whole collection because my local nail supply only had them in boxed sets. I could have done without the brush-strokey peach frost. It's...hideous. Like, really hideous. I lol'ed at how you only had one photo of it. I loved Fowl Play, Night Owl, Sea Gurl, and Sweet Peacock though. And Lucky Duck is a nice shade too. Peachy Parrot though...I don't even know what to do with it. Beautiful swatches! <3
ReplyDeleteI love Fowl Play. It is absolutely gorgeous.
