Hey... how about a blast from the past? Anyone remember this collection? I sure do. I remember being super excited about this collection when it came out and I bought the whole thing the minute I could get my hands on it. I wore the hell out of this collection. My favorite was Midnight in Moscow, which I loved so much that I bought bottles for several of my friends. One of my very favorite OPI fall collections and I don't think I've ever posted it.
So, let's take a stroll down memory lane, shall we?

love it so much, one of my faves too!
ReplyDeleteThank you for showing this collection. I have never seen it swatched, before. I have thought, off and on that I would like more polishes from this collection. Now I know that I do. I have had An Affair in Red Square (funny enough my husband chose it :)) for years and I adore it. Time to bring her sisters home. :)
ReplyDeleteI love the fact that so many of these colors are still available. So flattering to wear.
ReplyDeleteThis was one of my first collections where I bought almost all the polishes. I think the only one I didn't get was Cosmonaut Tonight. I love the blast from the past!!
ReplyDeleteMidnight in Moscow: <3 I didn't remember there were so many reds and..ugh, a frost!
ReplyDeleteOMG!! Boris and Natasha!! SWOON! I used to have that and don't know whatever happened to it! I also loved Midnight in Moscow!
ReplyDeleteAll the reds are really stunning! And I can see why Midnight in Moscow is your favourite, hehe. :)
ReplyDeleteI love looking at old OPI collections! The only polish I've tried from this one is Russian Navy.
ReplyDeleteIt's the collection that got me hooked on OPI! Russian Navy was the very first one I bought.
ReplyDeletewow when i saw this come up in my googlereader feed i was like (!!!). This is nail nostalgia at it's best! LOL!
ReplyDeleteI feel like OPI is the MAC of the nail world. Everyone used to be diehard but now, people tend to care less. Wasn't MAC Style Black from 07-08? Or the Nude collection? They were just doing better stuff back then...and less stuff.
Midnight in Moscow looks amazing! <3 I only own one polish from this collection, Russian Navy.
ReplyDeleteThis was a favorite of mine.. I even paid full retail price *gasp*
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely a classic! This was the collection that got me "into" nail polish. Russian Navy was the It color, as I remember. I still have Kreme de la Kremlin!
ReplyDeleteI love Kreme de la Kremlin but it seems to be impossible to find it, such a shame !
ReplyDeleteEvery single colour looks amazing! x
ReplyDeleteThe Russian and French collections are my favourite from OPI, and it's not because I'm both Russian and French :P I just love them - such a great range of 'classic' colours, but a little more special. I always thought Russian to a Party was part of this collection, guess I was wrong!
ReplyDeleteI didn't get my hands on much of this collection (I recently picked up Vodka and Caviar for $4, sweet!) but I love all of this for the same reasons you mentioned: vampy cremes, blackened shimmers... .so pretty!
ReplyDeleteUgh. One of my favorites!
ReplyDeleteThis is up there with one of my all time fav OPI collections. The 2 reds in it are fab. Agree over Midnight in Moscow - and Boris/Natasha I like a lot too. So much has been written about Russian Navy and rightfully so - it's a classic standard all collectors need to have - even if not blue polish fan - this is a great one. I think in one of the other bloggers annual surveys this and OPI French collections come out as big favorites of many for all time.
ReplyDeleteAhhh Russian Navy is my favorite out of that bunch and I love love love it.
ReplyDeleteBTW - love to see you do more posts along this line - blasts from the past - either full collections of a grouping of favs. I personally prefer the group of favs when they are grouped in a blog posting from the same polish manufacture, vs a grouping of some fav shades in a huge - like purples or whatever. I tend to think in terms of collections mind vault wise. It also is a big help as polishes get older to have them ID'ed in blogs as to what collection a shade came from and yr released. I know I have spent more time than I wanted to looking for a collection and/or date of a polish to fill in that column on my database. Like I said - I 'think' along the lines of collections vs shades when it comes to a lot of polishes.
ReplyDeleteOH MY GOD I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS FOR SOOOO LONG, I WORSHIP YOU SCRANGIE I SERIOUSLY DO, I've been wondering for YEARS why you haven't posted this collection before, now you did, I can die happy knowing that your take on this collection is the best i've ever seen so far. omgomgomg...
ReplyDeletewhat a coincidence, i'm wearing russian navy today loll and i lovee it, the other also look gorgeous
ReplyDeleteBeautiful collection. I have Russian Navy in suede, Midnigh In Moscow & Siberian Nights. I want Catherine the Grape. I need to buy Russian Navy in the regular finish. Gorgeous swatches.
ReplyDeleteYes, I also loved this collection!
ReplyDeleteAnd even though I don't really go gaga over reds, I remember the first time I wore OPI Vodka & Caviar, it was magic. That's a stunning red because it's jellyish, super shiny, and just way more special than a regular, boring creme red.
And although a lot of people hate on Catherine the Grape, I actually really loved it when I wore it. :)
I like these kind of 'blast from the past'-type posts from you, Scrangie. Haha, especially since I'm on a short, self-imposed No Buy. It helps me just 'shop my stash'. :D
I can see why Midnight in Moscow was your fave. It is absolutely sunning! I wish they still had these out :)
ReplyDeleteI also like Russian Navy!
still pretty much a perfect fall collection - i would buy this if it came out today :) xx
ReplyDeleteMidnight in Moscow was my first ever OPI purchase! And I loved it fiercely...up until it thickened beyond use in a few months. >:| I've had rimmel polishes for almost ten years now that are less thick than that damn OPI. Now I'm pretty much anti-OPI (for various reasons: over-hyped, polish takes too many coats to be opaque (if ever), thickens too quickly, their snobbery towards online retailers yet selling at Target, etc...) and will enjoy my original MPJ and a single suede, but won't purchase from them again.
ReplyDeleteI missed out on this collection, new polish collector that I am. But I can definitely see the appeal! Except for the one frosty shade (Cosmo-Not Tonight Honey, I'm looking at you!), everything is so Fall appropriate. These would easily get so much mileage!
ReplyDeleteThe vampy colors are love. I need to hunt me down some Russian Navy, Midnight in Moscow and Boris and Natasha. :)
Wow, that is a great collection!! Really solid, I like every single color. Especially Boris and Natasha!
ReplyDeleteOh gosh they're gorgeous *__* I love the first red and also... all the shades, I have to admit! Thank you for sharing!!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely LOVE that you posted this! Siberian Nights is an all time fav! I was too afraid to try a black polish so that shade helped ease me in. I still wear it constantly in the fall/winter months. It's so gorgeous! And this collection got me into dark polish, and an appreciation for collections. You just inspired me to track down a few of these shades.
ReplyDeleteI loved this collection SO MUCH. It was the one that sent me into nail polish obsession. It's also the only collection where I bought every single bottle. Russian Navy is still one of my favorite polishes of all time.
ReplyDeleteWell, what a super amazing post,Scrangie!I picked up Affair in Red Square at Ulta just last year, now there are so many more I want from this collection.I hope they won't be too hard to find.
ReplyDeleteMidnight in Moscow was my first ever OPI purchase! :]
ReplyDeleteMidnight in Moscow was my first ever OPI polish! I can't even find the bottle anymore. I don't know what happened to it, though I suspect it might have mistakenly ended up in the pile of polishes that I sent to Zoya during one their exchanges. Now I want it again!
ReplyDeleteI went to a spa for my b-day when this collection was out and I got Ruble for Your Thoughts as my mani. That mani was one of the first things that inspired me to get into polish. Thanks, I had totally forgetten!
ReplyDeleteYowza those are all delicious! I remember pricing one of them recently and they were going for like $50, yikers...
ReplyDeleteSo many winning shades in this collection!!!
ReplyDeleteI have the last one. Very pretty collection.
ReplyDeleteI remember this collection, I use to drool over "Boris and Natasha", so prefect for the fall.
ReplyDeleteOh my god. Can you believe that monstrous frosty beast was my first OPI polish? That was when my love was developing and all I thought I could wear was pinks and nudes and MAYBE red. Boy have things changed. For that reason this collection is special to me.
ReplyDeletewowww such perfect winter colors!!!
ReplyDeleteI love all these colors, I just got Catherine the grape and I can't take it off =)
ReplyDeletescrangie i loved this collex! i'm wearing siberian nights now!
ReplyDeleteVodka & Caviar is one of my favorite reds. It's actually one of the few nail polishes that I made sure to pack to fly out with me instead of packing to send on the moving truck on our recent cross-country move. I need to get Midnight in Moscow, it looks gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of collections, are you planning to swatch the Muppets collection?
Ha! I was just thinking of painting my nails St. Petersburgundy. I loved this collection. Thanks for the flashback.
ReplyDeleteI also LOVE Midnight in Moscow. I think it's the only one from this collection that I have. It was handed to me by the manager of my local Regis one day. Love at first site. :)
ReplyDeleteMidnight in Moscow, Russian Navy, Boris and Natasha... *sigh* I got the first two back then and the last one just recently, so gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteI went to my local salon supply store recently and they still had this collection in stock but I didn't get any of the polishes. After seeing this post, I think I'll be going back on pay day lol
ReplyDeletei think that LOVE cant even start to describe how i felt about this collection.
ReplyDeletemidnight in moscow AMAZING i think its one of my favorite nail polish i have...
i also loved the caviar and vodka but it fell on the floor (white floor if i might add) and broke.
great reading about this collection few years after it... i need to try and get some of the colors again:-)

I just bought An Affair in Red Square to match (perfectly) my semi-formal dress!! I just put it on my toes and I couldn't be more excited!
ReplyDeleteThis was my first collection ever! Awesome colors it has. By the way, is there any similar shade to St Petersburgundy, it's my favourite red and it seems like the colour has been discontinued ):
ReplyDeleteWow! I just picked up "Suzy says Da!" for £1.21!!! How's that for a bargain :D
ReplyDeleteI found Kreme de la Kremlin in Dollarama this week, its a unique colour!
ReplyDeleteI love Russian Navy with the little sparkles of red in it when you get in the sun!
