I picked up this TheBalm Hot Ticket nail polish set at TJ Maxx last week not necessarily because I like it, but because I'm intrigued by it. My buddy Tammie showed me a picture of these and it was a shock- I didn't even know TheBalm made nail polish, and yet there they were. There were two different sets- this one, and one with all boring pinks, reds and berries. Neither seem to be named, but the colors that belong in the set are printed on the back of the package.
Almost-Black Purple. Yep. Almost-black purple. Doesn't need much more of a description than that!
Baby Pink. Again... it's baby pink. Opaque baby pink creme.
Mudslide. This one is a brown-grey frost. Very dirty and sludgy looking, but for a frost it's not bad. I kinda like it.
Taupe. More frost. This is a mauve-taupe frost with some tiny little broken flakes of glitter scattered throughout. Like Mudslide, not bad for a frost.
Toffee. Even more frost! Yay. This one's frosty dirty champagne. Maybe light taupe. Ehhhhh....
The formula on these was decent, but nothing to write home about. They applied fairly easily but were on the thick/goopy side. All needed three coats.
The colors aren't particularly good and the price for the set was pretty steep ($20 at TJ Maxx). I feel like it wasn't really worth the $20, but I had to see them for myself.
I'm so confused by these. Like I said, I didn't know that TheBalm made nail polish. I've never seen it or heard of it before. I still can't find any information on it and it's not listed on their website. It seems like the first time most people I've talked to had heard of these was when they were spotted at TJ Maxx and Marshalls this month.
So... are these legit? Anyone know anything about these? How long has TheBalm been making nail polish without me knowing?

I really like Baby Pink! Really nice that its opaque.
ReplyDeleteI was confused too. Saw them when I went looking for TheBalm palettes last week. They kind of looked like cheap drugstore polishes to me, so I didn't even pick them up to look at them. Then again it might just be the conditions they're kept in within the store. The palette I got was in ROUGH shape and had no price on it, so I had to wait in line for 10 minutes while 3 reps scrambled around trying to figure out what to charge me.
ReplyDeleteCool, you went out and got 'em huh! I wonder if maybe the Balm just didn't release them or something? That's weird that they "don't exist"! Yeah they looked too frosty and were too pricey for me...thanks for taking the hit and swatching these for us though, I was super curious! I am sure others who saw the sets at TJMaxx/Marshalls were curious too.
ReplyDeleteI love the Baby Pink. It's hard to come across a creamy color that isn't streaky - & that seems awesome!
ReplyDeleteI absolutly love the pink color! It's so pretty! But you could totally tell you used three coats the polish looks so thick!
ReplyDeleteScrangie, could you give me some recs of a pink that is slightly darker than Baby Pink and is a creme? Like the color of the pink panther car (thingy mabob whatever it is) (first picture on google), that doesn't go all the way to hot pink. Thank you so much! I think I may have to pick up this set Mudslide is calling my name.

ReplyDeleteI also had no idea about these polishes. Nothing very different. Not bothered that I don't have these.
ReplyDeleteI had no idea that this brand had polishes. Nothing here that I really want. Do like Baby Pink.
ReplyDeleteI love the Baby Pink.
ReplyDeleteI had no idea those were TheBalm when I saw them! I thought they were some crappy drugstore giftset and was confused by the price. I don't think they ever released these... for good reason! So many are frosty. :(
ReplyDeleteHad no idea either they ever made a polish line.
ReplyDeleteMaybe they were made a while ago but not into totally full production? I know that when MAC did that Surf Baby line, they had blushette they were going to release, but it never went into full production, so they unloaded what they had made at AllCosmeticsWholesale a month or so ago. Definitely weird, though, that info on the polishes doesn't exist anywhere online at all ... and oof, so many frosts.
ReplyDeleteOkay..I had no idea TheBalm did nail polish - but then again I'm hardly on top on latest trends. Despite how beautiful you make anything look, I can't stand frosts so that's out. I do like Almost Black Purple though, what a name!
ReplyDeleteThanks for posting this Scrangie!

I'm a sucker for cute packaging. Loving the pin-up motif!
