You know... I've been thinking. It might be time for me to take this blog in a new direction.
I really love makeup and nail polish, and normally I love blogging about it, but I've been feeling so uninspired as of late. Not because I've stopped loving makeup, but because I have a new love...
Pennies. I'm totally into pennies right now. Even though I rarely use them, I have a pretty big collection going. It seems like every time I go to the store to buy something, I end up coming home with a few. So, from now on, I'm going to start reviewing pennies from my collection!
Here's one of the oldest ones in my collection. It's from 1967 and it's still good as new! Pennies last forever. They don't go bad. They might start to get dirty after a while, but you can just clean them off with a little metal polish. Look at that deep copper color. I miss the old formula.
These are some more old ones; from the 1970's collection. It's long discontinued, but you might still be able to find some old dusty ones in stores that have older stock in their registers. This 1972 one has some weird green stuff on it... But it's still worth one cent just like a normal one.
This one it a mystery. I don't know what collection it's from. The label is all messed up and I can't read the year. Might have been from 1986?
Check this out. These are all the same penny from 1993, but they're each different colors! The original was bright, shiny copper, but the others are more brown and not as shiny. Some quality control! I can't believe they expect me to buy that "the formula hasn't changed" story. The colors are obviously different, they should bring back the original! I bet it's going for a lot on eBay, too. Ugh.
This is a newer one... It looks a lot like some of the older ones I have. It's a little shinier, but it's so similar. I seem to have a lot of dupes in my collection. Most of these just aren't unique! Somehow I keep collecting more even though I know I have something similar already.
In 2009, they changed the back label a bit. On the left is the 2009 label and on the right is the regular one. Everything else is the same. I don't know if it's limited edition or not, I haven't seen very many of them. But look how shiny it is! The copper is a few shades lighter than most of the other ones in my collection.
Those old formula pennies stink! I never noticed it until I got a brand new one, but once you compare them you can totally tell the difference. They smell like dirty old metal. The new ones still have that weird coppery metal smell, but not as strong as the old ones.
I'm pretty sure you can only get these in the United States. They have copper coins in other countries, but the designs are different, so they're not quite the same. I know there are places where you can swap your currency for American pennies, so it shouldn't be too hard to swap for some.
Man, I just really love pennies. Pennies are the BEST.

... april fools? :O
ReplyDeleteYou could use the 1993 variations for a really nice, subtle gradation set.
ReplyDelete(I adore you, Scrangie! This made me laugh so hard I actually snorted. For serious.)
Scrangie, I love you!
ReplyDeleteHappy April Fools Day.
PS. Pennies are totally awesome, we don't get them in Australia. Lame :(
DUDE!!! I have some Australian 1c coins. Wanna do a swap?
ReplyDeleteHappy April Fools!
ReplyDeleteThe old ones DO stink. They taste funny, too. Happy April 1! ;o)
ReplyDeletePennies, huh? I'm partial to nickels myself.
ReplyDelete-Jessica
happy april fools!
ReplyDeleteI like the new direction you're taking here.
ReplyDeletePennies rule, I just hate those limited edition ones that are so hard to find!
On a more serious note, it's really too bad you can't see Lincoln's hands on the penny, we could do his nails with all those polishes we won't be needing anymore ;-)
This lady frankened her penny into something else!
ReplyDeletehttp://www.etsy.com/listing/7929701/lucky-penny-necklace

ReplyDeletenah, not me! I'm into the silver and the green backs, lots n' lots n' lot of 'em!
ReplyDeleteHappy April fools day!
love n' kisses!
Giggle.
ReplyDeleteBump pennies! What about the dime collection! Worth at least 10x what the penny collection is worth.
Finally, someone who loves pennies as much as I do. How do you store all of your pennies? Do you keep a spreadsheet listing your stash? Happy April Fools Day :)
ReplyDeleteFinally!!! I was really sick and tired of all those polish swatches!!
ReplyDeleteHappy April Fools, you rock lady!!
Maybe Old Abe loved painting his nails too!
ReplyDeleteFollower 4901!

ReplyDeleteYou can't fool me again missy, you fooled me once with your april fool's joke, I'm not letting you lure me again. But it''s a great one, take my imaginary hat off for you!
Pennies are pretty cool...but i gotta say I'm a quarter gal myself...the variations on the quarter just are so much more exciting then those of a penny ;) the silver sheen is more to my taste then the copper color ;) love the new direction though...can't wait to see more :D
ReplyDeleteLast week I went to the dollar store and got some in the Canadian formula! Score!
ReplyDeletehahaha nice april fools post you have going there.
ReplyDeleteI've already seen a few April's Fools post and this is one of the best one. Awesome.
ReplyDeletei read this, literally said, "OH. GOD." out loud, then looked and the date of the post, and breathed a heavy sigh of relief.
ReplyDeleteapril fool's day makes me a sweaty mess. :|

ReplyDeleteI totally misread "pennies."
ReplyDeleteI wonder how many penny's people will sent you now hahaha xoxo
ReplyDeleteHilarious! I love that you put so much effort into this post
ReplyDeleteLol love it!
ReplyDeleteGreat post! I was worried for a milli-second, then busted out laughing. I have some Euro cents to give you if you want some variety in your collection. Love your blog and thanks for the laughs.
ReplyDeleteI sat here thinking "Why on earth would anyone be interested in pennies" before I realised what day it is. But my excuse is that I haven't slept well in months, thanks to my baby daughter :P
ReplyDeleteFinaly a funny April fools joke! You really made me LOL.
ReplyDelete:D Happy April Fools Day!
ReplyDeletePennies! I love it. This made my day. Lol.
ReplyDeleteNaughty girl!!! Happy April Fools day to you!
ReplyDeleteI hope i'm not the only one that had their stomach drop. I got woken up early and this was one of the first few sites I visited, caught off guard I was honestly April fooled. So points to scrangie!
ReplyDeleteHAHA I was like "wait a minute it's April 1 today" LOL Good one.
ReplyDeleteHahahaha I'm crazy gullible so I almost fell for that. Happy April fool's! <3
ReplyDeleteLOL. April Fool's!
ReplyDeleteLol! Yea pennies are good, you're limiting yourself a bit there though Scrangie. How about branching out to worldwide currencies? Plenty of variation there!:p
ReplyDeleteYou've got an amazing stash! I'm getting pennies envy. :D
ReplyDeleteWell played!!
ReplyDeleteIf you do it right you shouldn't reduce your web prescence much. Call the blog 'CHANGE', and there's only a few letters different:
ReplyDeleteSCRANGIE
CHANG E
So you should keep up a good hit rate from the search engines :-)
Yeah and me, I love "penises"...
ReplyDeleteScrangie, will you marry me?
ReplyDeleteThis is one of the best april fools I have seen today!!
Definitely one of my favorite April 1st gags ive seen yet today. I must say that i do actually have a bit of a coin collection >.>
ReplyDeleteI knew you were joking.. and then remembered it's April Fools. Good on ya Scrangie! ;)
ReplyDeleteScrangie, I read this to my husband, laughing so hard I couldn't finish ... He looked at me like I had two heads! Hilarious! Thanks.
ReplyDeleteLol. Uh uh you won't fool me funny though I just the most baffled face while ready the top and look that you actually had pics you almost got me!
ReplyDeleteBrilliant
ReplyDeletefuck i'm so dumb. I'am the total worst on 4/1 *hangs head in shame.
ReplyDeleteHaha, this was cute!
ReplyDeleteI, ah, read "pennies" without the second n and the e.
ReplyDeleteBut that would also make sense.
i love the time you must have put into this! Happy April Fool's ):
ReplyDeleteLOL. Like triple LOL :D!!
ReplyDeleteOMG I laughed so hard at this - BRILLIANT!!
ReplyDeleteSweet, but you can't make it rain with pennies, maybe dollar bills. I'm into collecting pieces of glitter I find attached to people... hehe
ReplyDeleteAt least your glorious nails didn't fall off this year!!!
APRIL FOOLS! :)
ReplyDeleteHappy April Fools Day!
ReplyDeleteLOOOOOOL! OMG I couldnt stop laughing just thinking of you writing this up hahaha
ReplyDeleteHahaha, I love it! :D
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to lots and lots of penny talk in the future! XD
This was great :D Happy April fools day!
ReplyDeleteI love you. This was *hysterical*!
ReplyDeleteI did end up learning something new today! That 2009 back view of the penny! Now I'm on the lookout for it!
ReplyDeleteApril fools or not, I find that great. I do collect coins and notes, but only from countries I've been to. I've never been to the US (yet!) but I have a quarter coin. The most beautiful money I have so far is the Swiss money, it's all colorful.
ReplyDeleteOh Scrangie, this made me laugh alot!
ReplyDeleteWell played, Scrangie.
ReplyDeleteNow I'm going to have Bowie stuck in my head all day. Ch-ch-ch-ch-changes...
Lol!!!!
ReplyDeletelol, i was like OMG noooo! but it's april fools haha. That was a good one!
ReplyDeletehttp://www.metacafe.com/watch/428318/make_gold_and_silver_pennies/
ReplyDeleteThis is something you can do with your dupes! The silver wears away much faster than the gold, but there must be some sort of topcoat you can use to help that, right?
I love the pun in the title, too. :)
ur a true gem!! I luv this!! lol
ReplyDeleteI love you Scrangie.
ReplyDeletethat was hilarious.
I have some reallllly old ones with a wheat sheaf design on the back...wanna swap? Or should I just gouge people on ebay with them??
XO
NanRx
Absolutely awesome way to start my day! I kept giggling to myself like a loon. Happy April 1st! =D
ReplyDeletethe green stuff is "patina", oxidation that occurs in metals :)
ReplyDeleteomg you really had me going for a minute there
ReplyDeleteI love this!! haha
ReplyDeleteI love you! :D
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh... you are AWESOME!
ReplyDeleteFor my 21st birthday, my mom gave me two things: 21 pairs of scanty panties (she has a weird sense of humor) and 21 Susan B. Anthony dollars she had found minted in my birth year. Let me tell you: those coins are HEAVY. Like, 'put them in a sock and swing for maximum damage' heavy. I still have them in the sock, just in case.
ReplyDeleteAww, man, thanks so much for the morning laugh.
ReplyDeleteThat mystery penny is a total franken fail.
LOL, "change" is good.
ReplyDeletetake a penny leave a penny.
happy april fool's
Do you swap foreign coins too? You could get a Swedish 50-öring by me, they were recently discontinued so they're HTF.
ReplyDeleteYou could eventually branch out into posting about paper clips and cough drop/gum wrappers lurking at the bottom of your purse. :D
ReplyDeleteSo brilliant. Everything you're poking fun at here could be applied to the perfume world, too. Thanks for the laugh!
ReplyDeleteLOL You are so foolish!!!
ReplyDeleteI am too, because it took me like to the middle of the post to realize what was happening, but yeah...you are. LMAO.
Haha! Great gag. Happy April Fools Day!
ReplyDeleteHilarious! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteThis was so amusing! Great April Fools!
ReplyDeleteI was showing my friends your blog for the first time and i saw this post and i was like oh this is really weird she doesn't usually blog about this stuff and i was super confused...
ReplyDeleteAnd then i realized the date.
Pennies are the best! Everyone thinks quarters are where it's at but there's nothing like a stack of pennies to brighten my day.
ReplyDeleteMy other collection is coins. I mainly collect nickels and my husband collects pennies. ;)
ReplyDelete(Pre-1982 Lincoln cents were made of copper. Now they are copper plated zinc.)
I'm such a boring dork. :(
Heehee! PENNIES ARE THE BEST.
ReplyDeleteSooo funny! I <3 you!
ReplyDeleteBahahaha! Best post EVER!
ReplyDeleteGood one! I was confused at first but then I remembered the date.
ReplyDeletegod, all i could think is "uh oh, she's gone off the deep end" then i realized this is the second time i've been fooled today :P lol
ReplyDeleteMuahahahha! This was fantastic!
ReplyDeleteWell played, Scrangie! Definitely one of the more creative jokes I've seen today. <3
ReplyDelete-Nicole
I hope you branch out into other types of coins, I think you'll find the world of nickels and dimes really exciting.
ReplyDeleteYou're brilliant, Scrangie.
ReplyDeleteLOL XD I was rolling on the floor when you mentioned the pennies formula. XD Brilliant! But since I got fooled by you a year ago (or I dunno which year) I was careful enough not to expect a blog sale. ;) :D
ReplyDeletelol, loved this. Although I must confess, when you first said Pennies! I read it as Penis!I was like what!>_<
ReplyDeleteOh, you funny, funny girl.
ReplyDeleteLOL! I believed it until I read the comments. I was going to advise your to put your pennies in a cup of Coke or Pepsi. It will clean them right out! :D
ReplyDeletelololol :)))
ReplyDeleteoh my gosh! thanks so much for such a good laugh!!
ReplyDeleteOMG. I read this, saw the pictures of coins and started to panic. OMG what is she doing? OMG where will I go for inspiration and nail polishes to buy? Then I got mad. Just a tad bit, pissed that I had found you and now you are going to be talking all change... pennies. Thank you for the mild heart attack. At least I know I'm still alive.
ReplyDeleteHahaha I love this. OMG I think I need to start collecting more pennies now too...
ReplyDeleteBwahahahahaha...SNORT!!!
ReplyDeleteHAHAHAHA!!!
ReplyDeleteHahahha looove it!! This made me laugh so hard :D
ReplyDeleteYou almost had me going until the third paragraph, I'm ashamed to say.
ReplyDeleteFinally! I was getting really tired of all that nail polish stuff.
ReplyDeleteYou are so freaking hilarious!
ReplyDeleteThis worried me! All my favourite bloggers are going on hiatus, and I was like OH NO. As soon as you said pennies, I was very relieved!
ReplyDeleteI was about to go look @ my pennies..geez. I didn't get the joke till I read the comments. Stinker ;-)
ReplyDeleteidk if this was for april fools, but i LOVE collecting coins just as much (if not more) than nail polish!
ReplyDeleteLol happy April Fools :) Don't ya just hate when they change formulas on you like that?? And then everyone likes the old one better so they have to hunt for the old htf ones! <3 you!
ReplyDeleteHaha! You didn't get me this year, Scrangie!
ReplyDeleteRealise I'm a little late in replying. Loved this post. Loved it, Loved it Loved it
ReplyDeleteYou are awesome :)
ReplyDeleteit's been awhile since i've looked at your blog, and for a second i thought "i wonder how she's redirecting this?". i didn't even get that the penny bit was a joke until maybe halfway through the post. apparently i'm a bit slow on the uptake. very funny!!
ReplyDeleteOMG at first I didn't see what day you posted this on and it freaked me out lol :P
ReplyDeleteOh, this is awesome. I started laughing at the beginning and haven't stopped yet. I'm going to out myself here - I actually DO collect coins, specifically 1964 nickels. I started with those around 1984 and I still can't help checking dates and pocketing them. I have hundreds by now, stashed all over the place. I probably need help.
ReplyDeletei'm so slow!!! i didn't know it was an aprils fools joke. not even sure i read this on 4/1.. ah hahaha lol at me for that one!!
ReplyDeleteWell I'm kind of disappointed you didn't take the blog to the coin direction.
ReplyDeleteThe 1972 cent has a very rare Double-Die error only visible in the words IN GOD WE TRUST but yours is blurry.
Oh well if you ever want to join the coinside feel free to pay this Man a visit.
Plus pre-1982 cents are about $0.02 each.
Normally I wouldn't post on such an old thread, but I wanted to post this link for you, that I think you'll appreciate as a penny lover - a penny-covered desktop, kind of awesome: http://www.epbot.com/2010/09/money-money-money.html
