There's a line of Twilight-themed polishes available right now and I got the chance to swatch a few of them over the summer. First things first, I haven't read the books or seen the movies so I really don't know enough about Twilight to determine whether or not these have anything to do with it.... Teenage vampire romance just isn't my thing. *hides Blutengel CD*
All I can say is that the shade names seem sort of random/generic and don't really bring to mind vampires or werewolves or anything of that nature... But the bottles are pretty sweet and the colors are nice!
Citrus. Really pretty hot pink / pinky coral with gorgeous gold flash/shimmer. I like the gold shimmer in this a lot, reminds me a little of OPI Bright Lights, Big Color- only a pinker, more demure version.
Debutante. A pale pinky-champagne with really strong gold duochrome. I'm digging the duochrome nature of this even if it is a really soft color. It's both flashy and subtle.
Poseidon. Aqua blue creme. A little softer than something like Zoya Robin. Not quite as bright and clear as the standard sky/aqua creme.
Sugar Plums. This one is a hot dark magenta with a blue/violet duochrome flash/shimmer. The shimmer sits on top and changes colors when you move your hand.
Talon. Dark navy shimmer. Not unique but it's still pretty.
Wine and Dine. I wanna date you, baby... I wanna take you out... I wanna wine and dine you... Sorry, polish names always remind me of songs. This one looks cooler in the bottle than it does on the nail, but that's not to say it's bad on the nail. In the bottle it looks like a magical swirl of pink and silver glitter but on the nail it becomes a light pink foil. Foils are pretty cool, but I was hoping for more glitter based on the bottle!
There are a few other shades in the line, including a pretty silver holo glitter, but I didn't try any of those.
The formula on these was good. I didn't really have any issues with application, but the brushes seemed a little soft to me. Opacity was pretty good, I did three coats of all the colors here but only Debutante and Wine and Dine needed the third. Dry time was a little on the long side.
Overall, I like the colors, but they seem so familiar... The bottles are freakin' sweet. I like that big metal seal glued to the front, it makes them look all regal and official. I don't really see what these have to do with Twilight or vampires or anything like that, though... Twilight fans, any opinions?
These are available online, but I've also seen them in store at Meijer and they just so happen to be on clearance right now!
(These were sent to me for review.)

the metal seal represents the cullen clan
ReplyDeletelove the colours!
I don't like Twilight at all, but these look fantastic! The lovely bottles help, of course. :)
ReplyDeleteI wanna twist and twist and shout. <3
ReplyDeleteFirst off, I am not a fan <.< My pride begs me to make that clear lol. I did read the books and they were entertaining enough I suppose but far from the best I've ever read. I broke down and bought the silver holo glitter (Disco Darling? Disco Ball?) I do like the bottle, the polish is great too. I don't think the names mean anything, I think they were just capitalizing on the Twilight brand.
As far as I can tell, Twilight is pretty fluffy for a series that has vampires in it, so I guess that's where the fluffy colors fit in. The bottles are just about the only thing about these that really grab my attention. With bottles like those, I was hoping to find rich, vampy shades and some cool duochromes inside.
ReplyDeleteI've seen those bottles online, too ... and you really listen to Blutengel? :) I did, too, just yesterday, when I cleaned up my sleeping-room ;)
ReplyDeleteall very pretty but citrus and sugar plums are my favorites ♥
ReplyDeleteI like Twilight, but I'm not a super-fan, so maybe I just don't get the names, but they don't mean anything to me. As the first commenter said, the seal is the coat of arms for the Cullens.
ReplyDeleteIf they were going to make Twilight nail polishes, they should at least have named them with Twilight inspired names! *Shakes head* They just seem to be generic polishes with a really badly done Cullen crest on them.
ReplyDeleteI am a huge Twilight fan, and these colours are nothing like what the characters would wear, nor do they capture the mood of the series.
i lovvvve lovvvve lovvvve citrus and poseidon. gorgeous. :)
ReplyDeleteI love Sugar Plums and Citrus! Based on the very little I know about Twilight I don't see how the names relate. I think the crest on the front has some significance to the series though.
ReplyDeleteCitrus is very nice! And those bottles are hot :)
ReplyDeleteThere are some good colors in that collection. I think they should've named the colors after Twilight characters or locations. You know...*something* having to do with Twilight since they're the Twilight collection.
ReplyDeleteI'm a dangerously obsessed twifan.. not ashamed haha! But yeah these polish names and even the colors have nothing to do with the series. I found this collection at Duane Reade in NYC back in June but I only purchased the silver holo called Disco Darling, which I love.. I only bought that one because it was different from any polish I already own and my twilight nerdyness figured it was sparkly like Edward's skin in the sun.. yeah okay go on and laugh.. I wonder how they came up with these and tied them to Twilight, they're great but just really random.
ReplyDeleteWhat Sarah said. The only thing these polishes have to do with Twilight is the Cullen crest on the front. Colors and names have nothing to do with the series. Classic example of throwing a popular name on something to get people to buy it. :)
ReplyDeleteLike Twilight and I was also suprised by these colors. I just didn't think they had anything to do with vampires. I expected vampy dark shades. Debutante reminds me of Zoya's Jennifer. I love the bottles but there isn't anything here I haven't seen before.
ReplyDeleteI have read the books and seen the movie, but I wouldnt call myself a fan. These dont seem to have anything to do with the series at all. I think they should've at least included one red, and maybe milk the whole vampires sparkling in the sun thing and do a couple crazy glitters.
ReplyDeleteLove these colors! I read the books (I only liked the first 2 books.. the last 2 are really boring!) and I saw the films (this time I only liked the third one), but I don't think these names and colors have anything to do with the books or the films... The bottles are really cute, I think!
ReplyDeleteCitrus looks like China Glaze 'Strawberry Fields.'
ReplyDeleteI've never seen a Twilight movie or read the book but I like a few of these and would definitely purchase them. Great swatches as always ...enjoy your vacation.
ReplyDeleteDude, I just have to say thanks for mentioning Blutengel. I went & checked them out, and OMG. I don't think I've ever fallen so hard & fast in love with any band as I did them.
ReplyDeleteRead the books and hated them. Hated the movie even more. Why do I torture myself so? In any case, glad to see the makers of this polish were wise enough to NOT do their research. I like one or two of the colors but not enough to actually order them.
ReplyDeleteCute collection, doesn't make me think about vampires but teens.
ReplyDeleteWine and Dine reminds me of Orly Rage...
I think fandom themed nail polish collections are incredibly dumb regardless of whether or not I have any affection for a particular fandom. Nail polish is nail polish, and given that your nails aren't going to look particularly "Twilight-esque" if you use them I see absolutely no rational reason for the tie-in to influence one's feelings for these polishes either way. A great color would still be a great color even if it had the most nauseatingly fannish moniker, and a dull color would still be dull even if it was inspired by/named after the most badass character/franchise on earth. Fandom tie ins cease to matter the moment you walk away from the display IMO.
ReplyDeleteThat said, this is a pretty poorly executed product tie-in. Not a single name makes any sense in a Twilight-context, which is ridiculous as finding good names should be considered a top priority in putting together a themed collection. I consider the series a (extremely) guilty pleasure, but I'm no where near fan-girlish enough to know the Cullen Clan seal by sight so I never would have made the connection had you not mentioned it. I do love the bottle aesthetic though. The metal seal on the bottle makes these look classier than they really are!
I'm more of a vampire fan (going back to Buffy and Spike <3 but that's another story...) than just Twilight fan and these colours don't scream vampire. I do like the soft shiny pinks and I hardly ever like pink nail polish but these were sweet. The others, not very special but the bottles are rocking! :)
ReplyDeleteYeah, the colors and names have nothing to do with Twilight. It's a pretty thinly veiled marketing ploy. That said, the bottles are very pretty and they have some neat colors. I didn't expect much from the polish inside and bought a few on a lark, but I have to say they cover really nicely in two coats and the ones I've tried wear very well. Did two coats of Poseidon Monday night and had no chipping and very little tip wear until Saturday. I found these on clearance for about $5 at my local Meijer store - FYI for those who have one nearby.
ReplyDeletehey scrangie,
ReplyDeletei was just wondering if you've seen the twilight series makeup at the store and could potentially review them? i saw some on sale at a local drug store and was kind of intrigued but i couldn't find any reviews on them
much thx! =]
