Nevermore. Inky, sparkly, gorgeous blue/purple duochrome. Impossible to photograph. You may be thinking this looks familiar... that's because it's OPI Ink. (I will post comparison pictures below.) So, if you have OPI Ink, you know what this picture is supposed to look like! OPI Ink is in my top five favorite polishes of all time, I have backup bottles I love it so much, and I wear it every chance I get. Unfortunately, I've never been able to get a good picture of it, and I must have taken over 100 pictures of it.
Obscure. Soft matte black creme. This isn't a super dark black like, say, KO Knockout Flatte Black? This is a softer, more faded looking black. Almost more of a dark grey than a black. The rest of the polishes in this set correlate to existing OPI or Nicole shades, but I can't recall a plain matte black OPI... Perhaps the closest color to this is Sephora by OPI What's A Tire Jack? Matte?
Sanguine. A deep, rich, shimmery, vampy burgundy red. Incredibly hot. Very sexy. My pictures don't do it justice. It's extremely rich looking and it has a lot of depth. I'm pretty sure this is OPI Royal Rajah Ruby, so if you missed out on the original India collection release, you might want to pick this up! It is not a color to be missed! Which reminds me... the India collection was great. I don't think I've ever posted it. I will add that to my project list!
Unripened. This is definitely the most fascinating one to look at in the bottle. It's a black base with large teal/aqua/blue shimmer particles that have a strong pink duochrome. On the nail the duochrome is rarely visible- seems most apparent in low light and at sunset, but the effect is much more subtle on the nail than in the bottle. Regardless, the black with blue shimmer is still pretty.
These all looked so familiar to me when I was swatching them so I decided to pull out some old bottles to compare:
Left to right (ring to index):
Nicole Party At 3 AM
OPI Nevermore
OPI Ink
Nicole Party At 3 AM
OPI Nevermore
OPI Ink
I think it's pretty safe to say that this might be OPI Ink. The formula's been updated but the color looks the same to me!
Left to right (pinkie to index):
Nicole By OPI Black Cat-Cha Later
OPI Midnight in Moscow
OPI Sanguine
OPI Royal Rajah Ruby.

OPI Royal Rajah Ruby.
What do you think... looks similar? I couldn't really tell the difference in real life. Someone suggested to me that it also looks like OPI Romeo and Joliet, but I couldn't find mine to compare.
Left to right (pinkie to index):
Nicole by OPI Party at 3 AM
Nicole by OPI Blues in the Night
OPI Unripened
Jessica Casablanca

I threw the Jessica in with the OPIs because it was the first thing that came to mind when I saw Unripened. I'm thinking Unripened is Nicole Blues in the Night re-promoted for Halloween. Which is cool, because it's discontinued and really pretty!
The formula on these was excellent. The shades seem to have received a pretty nice formula upgrade since their original releases. These are all very opaque- two coats for complete coverage and that is what is pictured here. Very smooth, even, not runny, not thin, nice and on the thick side of medium. The only problem with these is that the mini brushes don't hold much product so you really have to try to get a big bead on the brush to ensure smooth application. Drying time is very fast.
Overall, awesome collection. I think most of OPI's Halloween kits have been minis of re-promoted colors plus one unique color like Ghostess with the Mostess or Glow-Ink In the Dark, so I'm not surprised to see some familiar faces here. All of the colors are drop dead gorgeous, Ink and Royal Rajah Ruby were always favorites of mine. In fact, if you haven't picked up the originals of these colors and they are interesting to you, you really might like to give these a try. I'm really pleased at the improved formula and application- the originals are on the thin and slightly sheer side (even though they are 3-free), but these re-promotes are really opaque and perfect in the formula department. Makes me kinda wish I had regular sized bottles of the new formula.
I think this set would also make a really cute gift. I know that personally I'd be thrilled to bits to get a gift like this from someone... Maybe in Halloween party gift bags or something? I don't know, I'm not Martha Stewart-y enough to come up with cute interesting ways to give gifts and stuff. But yeah, would totally make an awesome gift for someone!

i love it. especially Obscure!!
ReplyDeleteIi wish they made a full size set of these. I hate those mini brushes. I have OPI Ink but the rest I don't own. I'll have to buy this set.
ReplyDeleteoh mannnnn. scrangie you've done it again!
ReplyDeletei decided a few hours ago NOT to get this mini set, and then you go ahead and post gorgeous swatches of the polishes that's making me re-consider my decision. LOL.
maybe it's just fate telling me to get this set :p
woman idk how you do it, but you make EVERYTHING look gorgeous. i was NOT feeling these at all until i saw your swatches. *sigh* now i might need them.
ReplyDeleteThese are really beautiful, but I am leaning more towards China Glaze's Halloween collection this year. These look lovely on you, though!!!
ReplyDeleteI must have this! Halloween is my favorite.
ReplyDeleteI love your comparisons...very helpful :)
ReplyDeleteI love these colors, except for that black matte...I could go without that one.
ReplyDeleteBut the others are so nice!
Ah I'm so glad I just picked this set up! :D
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Scrangie! I needed those comparisons - I bought this set, but after reading this realize I already own Ink, Royal Rajah Ruby and Blues In the Night! :) I'll probably keep the matte black (just cuz I don't own a matte black) and give the others away. TY so much! Oh, and the stretchy lace cuff made a cute collar for my cat for about ten seconds! :D
ReplyDeleteI want a couple out of that collection. *sigh*
ReplyDeleteSince I love all things Halloween, I'm snagging these up the minute I see them. Hubba! You make them super HOT!
ReplyDeleteI think Unripened is great but...Black Matte ?? *shakes head*
ReplyDeleteI LOVE this collection!! I'm going to have to pick them all up. Your blog is deadly for me -- I may be able to pass something up until you post it and make it impossible to ignore! Always beautiful photos!
ReplyDeleteI have a question for you, scrangie, and anyone else -- I've been wanting to get a glow in the dark color for quite some time and I figure now's the best time since Halloween is just around the corner. I've always had my mind send on Ghoulish Glow, but what is everyone's opinion? Does anyone have a preference for one vs another? Is there even a different between brands? Thank you so much everyone!
Your pics are fantastic - I had been going to get this set, but ended up going for the China Glaze Halloween set instead - and actually I'm glad I did - not because I don't like these colours - I love them - but that's just it - I love them enough that I already have near dupes for them all as they are all pretty standard colours for me...
ReplyDeleteI am anxiously awaiting my OPI Go Goth nail set in the post!!! I'm a sucker for all things Hallowe'en especially cosmetics!
ReplyDeletexoxo
Aww, all the colors are cute!
ReplyDeleteI bought this set from Transdesign. I was surprised to really love the way the black matte looked on my hands but my sanguine was really brown, never was really purple and unripened had very little sparkle. Do you think it's fake? I've always been so pleased with transdesign.
ReplyDeleteWhat, no picture with the stretchy lace cuff? :D
ReplyDeleteThose colors are absolutely delicious, especially Sanguine and Nevermore. I am absolutely drooling over those. I swear, I need to find a wealthy relative who wants to spoil his happy bloggy ... niece?... with nail polishes. Ahh, what a lovely dream!
Oh, my gosh. My heart just had palpitations looking at the OPI Sanguine. That is to die for! Love that Sanguine3 photo-it's breathtaking!
ReplyDeleteThis years Halloween sets are out of this world! CG and OPI did a great job getting away from the standard black, white, orange sets that were way over done.
ReplyDeleteI'm really glad you finally put up the swatches to this set, not only are your pics amazing but your dupe comparison are very helpful!
Brilliantdreamer: Ghoulish Glow is great in that you can put it over any color for glowy goodness. You just have to shake it really well because the glowy particles settle at the bottom. I like that more than just one glowy nail color.
The two colors that you think are dupes are OPI Ink and Royal Rajah Ruby. You can check by the codes on the bottom of the bottles. I was a little sad when I read your post as I bought this set and already own these two colors. But again, not sad because I love these colors! I don't own the other two in the set so it's ok!
ReplyDeleteso... these are available ONLY in small size bottles?
ReplyDeleteoh thank you thank you thank you for swatching those and finding matches!!! I got the set as a gift for a friend (great minds meet ;) ) because I found it so cute and she only goes for dark colours, and I couldn't resist trying them on and then I wanted some of the colours for me, but I live in France, and I have to order everything on the internet, so it was a bit expensive to get the whole set for just two colours in mini, and now I know which bottles to put on my next order (if I can find them!!).
ReplyDeleteOveral, a huuuuuuge thanks for that, and for your blog in general. I've been reading it occasionally and then went for a "from the beginning" extensive read, and it's awesome. Thumbs up for the incredible work, energy, money and time you put into this, it makes make-up addicts around the world very happy :D.
and while I'm logged in here, a question. Do you know anything about OPI's Burlesque collection? I've seen some pics here and there, and also some stories that bloggers were asked to remove the pics, but then I found a website that already had the collection on sale... I'm confused, and knowing as you're a glitter fan, I can't imagine you wouldn't jump and squeal and post about an OPI collection with six glitters...
ReplyDeleteI fell in love with Sanguine and Unripened. They look gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteFYI:
ReplyDeleteCND Sapphire Sparkle over black looks exactly how Unripened should look like on the nail!
I was swatching on a nailwheel to pass the time when I made this great discovery. =D
Another dupe of Unripened is Sinful Colors Whats Your Name? I picked it up and had to do a double take when I brought it home.
ReplyDeleteYes, those are Royal Rajah Ruby and Ink that have just been renamed for this collection. If you look at the alphanumeric number stamped on the bottom of the bottles, they are the same codes (e.g., Ink is NLB61). I discovered this when I was trying to figure out the names of the minis I owned since OPI doesn't actually include the names on the bottle!
