Like I mentioned in the last makeup post, Aromaleigh is closing this week... Sadly, I just discovered them about a month ago... maybe two months? I had been intentionally avoiding them for a while (along with most indie makeup companies) and finally gave in to ordering when the Sonic Eyes line went on clearance. Now I'm kicking myself for not trying them sooner, cause now I've missed out on a lot of amazing colors. I'm actually kinda sad... Their stuff seems head and shoulders above all the indie/mineral/loose makeup brands I've tried.
I'm still editing the swatches I did of all the Aromaleigh colors I currently have, but here's two looks I did using their colors:
This was:
MAC Paint Pot in Painterly
Aromaleigh Re-Gifted applied wet on lid
Urban Decay Zero in the crease
Aromaleigh Ambre over Zero in the crease and on lower lashline
Fyrinnae Finnegan's Wake highlight
Kat Von D liquid liner in Black Metal Love
Urban Decay Zero 24/7
Cover Girl Lash Blast
Who knew that gold+black=green? I knew I wanted a monochrome look and I thought that adding black and then purring a gold on top would make a blackened gold, but nope, it made... green? Oh well. I love green at least. Re-Gifted is an amazing shade, it's rich and SHINY and metallic. I mean, it's really, really shiny. It has a nice chrome-like quality that stays all day. And, as an added perk, it sparkles too! I need sparkles. I'm addicted to sparkle.
I tried to get some blurriness to pick up the glitter... sorta works... can you see the silver and gold and red glitter?
This was:
Too Faced Shadow Insurance
Aromaleigh Spiked Punch applied wet on lid
Make Up For Ever 92 in crease
Aromaleigh Almost Midnight over 92 and on lower lashline
Fyrinnae Finnegan's Wake highlight
Kat Von D liquid liner in Black Metal Love
Urban Decay Zero 24/7
Cover Girl Lash Blast
This was yesterday's look - 08/09/10- so I had to do something special! I think this turned out great. The pictures show some really patchy unblended looking spots but they weren't as obvious in real life. I've learned that with loose and mineral shadows, if I want to use them in the crease and still keep them true to color I need to apply them over another traditional/commercial eyeshadow or I need to use them wet, but wet in the crease is usually a big pain in the ass so I try to layer mostly. Almost Midnight is a gorgeous vibrant blue purple and I might be able to use it alone, but it does seem really patchy. It kept trying to wipe off the MUFE 92 when I was patting it on top. I've encountered that a lot with these types of shadows, the base and shimmer don't stay together.
Spiked Punch is really awesome though, I have no problems with that color. Nice coral-pink-red with a crapload of iridescent sparkle. Goes well with purple. Two thumbs up.
Any recommendations on brands with quality and color selection comparable to Aromaleigh? Preferably professional, reliable, non-drama companies, please!
I don't know which is my favorite. They're both outstanding! I did use Bare Minerals but they don't have those vivid shades like Aromaleigh. They're also much more expensive. I haven't any idea on a good brand. I'd like to know that myself. I also wished that I'd ordered before. I don't have anything from this company. I'd gone on to the web site many times. Boo hoo!
ReplyDeleteAh, I love the second look! The purple! And a peachy shade...
ReplyDeleteAND I ADORE YOUR EYES
OMG!! you are not only good with your nails, you are also AWSOME with makeup!!! congrats.
ReplyDeleteUgh, I'm so bummed Aromaleigh is closing! I discovered them through you and LOVE them, am still working my way through samples and hadn't purchased any full sizes yet (though I see that the full sizes I wanted to order are already sold out). I too would love to hear about comparable brands.
ReplyDeleteMeow Cosmetics or Fyrinnae. I like Silk Naturals too.
ReplyDeleteI usually check out Phyrra's blog if I'm about to purchase makeup. Shiro Cosmetics, Fyrinnae and Evil Shades are the only indie brands I've tried. (And I had good experiences with all three!)
ReplyDeleteMeow, Fyrinnae, Evil Shades, Glamour Doll Eyes, Shiro, Silk Naturals, Sugarpill = all good ;)
ReplyDeleteI LOVE that purple look.
Goodness me lady, those colour combos and application is goorgeous! :P
ReplyDeleteOoooh goodness, that purple is amazing!
ReplyDeleteWowowowowowow! They are both GORGEOUS. I seriously love the purple one. They are both amazing, but the purple one really jumps out at me. Absolutely beautiful x
ReplyDeleteI'm so jealous that you're so good with your liquid liner! I loveee that purple look on you!
ReplyDeleteI love them both, but the purple/pink eye is gorgeous!!!
ReplyDeletei swearrrrrr by gold/copper type colours. i feel they're universally flattering and pretty much encompass my whole eyeshadow collection! looks beautiful!!!!

OMG I looove the purple eye-makeup! It's the prettiest make-up I've seen for a long time! The "Aromaleigh Spiked Punch" looks so dead amazing with the purple from MUFE, I think I'm gonna start drooling ;) So pretty!!
ReplyDeleteI've never ordered from Aromaleigh, but I ordered a lot from Pure Luxe Cosmetics (my fave colors there are amethyst, heather mist, ghost mist, love spell, english ivy, galaxy, seashore and mermaid).
I have like a hundred samples from Meow Cosmetics, though some of them really don't work well when applied wet.
But they have really nice colors and do a Halloween Limited Edition every year, complete with eyeshadows, blushes and mineral foundation (like a really really white for that perfect ghost-look or different browns and blacks for werewolves and even a greenish one for ghouls or zombies).
What you also might want to try, is Archetype Cosmetics. Holly is a one-woman-shop, so it might take a while before your order arrives, but I bet you will like the colors and especially the glitter and you will love the names :) At least I did *grins*
"Little grey kitten", "Gloomy Sunday" and "Ashflower" I bought as fullsizes immediately after I received my samples. Those colors are so much "me" that I really start to feel better when I wear them. ^^
So, give MeowCosmetics and ArchetypeCosmetics a chance ;)
I'm so excited that you've been doing makeup posts!!!!! Your makeup skills and colors are to die for!
