I'm so excited about these. A couple words on the inspiration behind the collection and then some swatches!
This year's fall collection, according to the press release, is inspired by the wives of Henry VIII and the iridescent thread of the brocade fabrics they wore. I'm not an expert on Henry like a few of my friends are, so I don't feel qualified to comment too much, but I think that's pretty awesome. Gruesome, perhaps, but totally awesome.
I can totally see the brocade influence in these. They're all soft, rich colors with tons of iridescent speckles running through them. Very complex, very gorgeous.
Now, swatches! And please excuse the paper cut on the ring finger of my right hand. I tried to hide it and I know it looks gory! Sorry!
Anne. I think Anne is the most complex of the set, it seems to have the most things going on in there! The base color is a deep olive green with some gold shimmer. Then there's tons of little specks of iridescent/rainbowy shimmer, flashy pink shimmer and purple/fuchsia microglitter. Click the indoor pics to enlarge them and check out the microglitter!! I think the ring finger shows it the best. This is not a dupe of Zoya Edyta or Nubar Verde. Much different finish, more subtle particles, less dull, more colors.
Catherine. There are two Catherines in this set and this one is inspired by Catherine of Aragon. This color has a slight red-based purple base with fine golden shimmer, think OPI Catherine the Grape but not as strongly red toned. Then there's a layer of superfine iridescent shimmer, followed by the fuchsia microglitter from Anne and a little bit of teal/blue microglitter. The microglitter in this one isn't as obvious as in Anne, but it's still a nice touch.
Catherine H, which is of course inspired by Catherine Howard. My picture is making this color look more saturated than it is. It's a deep but very dusty periwinkle type blue. Not really teal like in the first picture, more soft and muted and subdued like the second picture. Indoor picture is much more accurate but doesn't show the shimmer as much. Slight purple tinge. It's supposed to be Wedgwood Blue and that's exactly what it reminds me of. That matte blue surface. It's accented by subtle fine gold shimmer and a bit of that pretty superfine iridescent shimmer. It seems like there's a tiny bit of that purple and aqua microglitter in the bottle but I don't see it strongly on the nail.
Jane. A muted putty-grey with very subtle gold-green-pink shimmer. The shimmer is very fine and is almost a secret shimmer in this polish because it's so light. You can see it strongly in the bottle- a putty with strong light green and gold shimmer- but it's more subtle on the nail. Unless I need to shake it or something! It's the least shimmery of the four polishes. Somewhat reminiscent of the Rescue classic Grunge.
You can see all the different types of shimmer in the bottles pretty well:
And actually... I should have taken a picture of the back of the bottle instead so the shimmer isn't obscured by the label. Let me do that. I'll probably post better bottle pictures later.
I don't know if these are in formula or not because they're press samples only, but I had no issues at all with application. Two coats was great for all but Jane which needed three. They didn't smell like the normal Rescue formula so I'm thinking they might not be, but I don't know for sure.
I really love these. I can't pick a favorite because I love them all. And I'm not just saying that because I'm a gigantic Rescue Beauty Lounge fan. I think these are really gorgeous. Muted fall colors, unique shades, fascinating shimmer. Every single one. Unique. That's kinda Rescue's trademark, funky unique colors, right? Two thumbs up from me. Green, purple, blue and grey, baby!!
I don't know when they'll be available on the website, the press release doesn't seem to give a date. I'd guess there might be a pre-order soon and then a full release like they normally do. You can find the Rescue nail polish fall line online and in their salon in Manhattan when it's out.
(These were sent to me for review.)
Hmmm I love them all except for Jane. Catherine just looks.. Wow. No other words
ReplyDeleteThanks for posting these!
i was wondering if anne was a dupe for the zoya, thanks for clearing that up very pretty all of 'em and i want it -i'll really go the anne and catherine....idk
ReplyDeleteOh dear... I see a giant polish splurge in my future. I will be purchasing them all. I don't even really like Jane, but I'll have to get that one too because it's my middle name. LOL
ReplyDeleteAfter getting your Scrangie from RBL i thought i was settled and not needing more. And then you post swatches like these, lol! Looove Anne and Catherine .. *sigh*
ReplyDeleteVery Pretty! I do wish there was a creme option for those of us on Team Creme though...I think I can pass. Which feels just weird to say...i LOVE RBL!
ReplyDeleteAnne is my absolute favourite. Gotta... have... Thx for the pics!
ReplyDeleteooh these are my kind of colors. too bad they're not my kind of price *cry cry*
ReplyDeletei love them all!! and i don't see a paper cut :) i hope it gets better soon, as hand wounds are the bane of all polish-swatchers' existence ;)
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh these are beautiful! I've not tried any rescue beauty lounge before but I have a feeling these may be my first! xx
ReplyDeleteI wish I could get them here in germany :-(
ReplyDeleteThose are gorgeous, and I can't wait to get my hands on them!
ReplyDeleteLove! I am speechless. Ji is indeed a genius, and deserves all the praise she gets.
ReplyDeletethanks for the great pics.
ReplyDeleteI think I need both Catherines. As well as your eponymous polish. Don't have any RBLs yet.
Must remedy that situation.
I don't comment much, but am a regular reader. thanks for a great blog :)

Wow, are really love all of these!
ReplyDeleteMmm, Anne and Catherine.H are so pretty.
ReplyDeleteSpecially Anne.
I think they have managed to grasp the queens's personalities. I adored this collection's theme :)
Anne and Catherine are sooooo pretty!
ReplyDeleteOh my, Anne might be my first RBL... it's so pretty!
ReplyDeleteNoooo! Just when I thought I would never spend another dime on an RBL,they go and create another amazing collection. Now I'll need them all!
ReplyDeleteThank you for swatching these :)
Anne and Catherine are soo pretty - so complex. Love them!
ReplyDeletethanks for swatching! so pretty!!!! :) i can't wait to order these. they really do capture the idea of brocade.
ReplyDeleteThey are all amazing. I can't wait to pre-order them!
ReplyDeleteOOOH! I'm definately getting Anne...maybe Catherine. I LOVE Tudor history, and it's very fitting that Anne is such a complicated polish...Anne Boleyn was a complicated woman. I think Jane is perfect too...Jane Seymour is viewed in history as the perfect wife for Henry. Very meek and mild. Thank you for the swatches!
ReplyDeleteFirst, great swatching of some very, very gorgeous polishes!! Definitely worthy of OMG!
ReplyDeleteNext, I wonder why they didn't make a total of 6 for each wife. And does anyone find it odd that he marred 3 women named Catherine (even though I know each was spelled differently and that was a very popular name at the time)? And then 2 different Annes? Odd man out is Jane. Just a silly pondering. And greed too. I would have liked 2 more colors.
Great I love Anne and both Catherines :)
ReplyDeleteThese look really wonderfull, especially Catherine A!
ReplyDeleteI love them. I don't really see how they are related to their inspirations, but they are gorgeous. It's interesting that she only chose the 4 wives that died while still married to him (or "married", in the case of Catherine), and not the one he actually let live or the one who outlived him.
ReplyDeleteI'm gonna need 3 of these. :)
ReplyDeleteRescue Beauty Lounge is combining my two favorite things here: nail polish and Tudor history. I think I'll end up with Anne and the Catherines. I don't think I'll be getting Jane. She was my least favorite wife anyway ;) It's too bad there isn't a polish for each wife. I'm assuming the Anne here is Anne Boleyn, but wouldn't it be interesting if it was actually invented for Anne of Cleves? And the Catherine could be Catherine Parr or Catherine of Aragon. Once again, I'm guessing Catherine of Aragon. This is all I need...two things to geek out about at once! I will definitely be preordering these.
ReplyDeleteCCatherine is soo pretty! And yeah I see what you mean, I can see the brocade influence in these, too!
ReplyDeleteYou have such great swatches, Scrangie, and thanks for getting them up so quickly! :) They are all pretty, but I'm only mildly interested in Anne and Catherine H. I'm with Tobywoo in that I wish there was a true creme here.
ReplyDeleteOh no... I just fell in love with your RBL color too... *tries hard to resist more RBL's*
ReplyDeleteThank you, Scrangie!!! YAY! I always look forward to the next RBL collection! LOVE Anne and Jane! Thank you! :+)
ReplyDeleteI love this collection!
ReplyDeleteFunny thing is, I saw Shakespeare's "Henry VIII" a couple of weeks ago (in London). I loved how Catherine of Aragon and Anne Boleyn were played... and Katherine's dress was black and dark purple, quite like the RBL polish with her name.
Great swatches, as usual. Thanks!
is Anne a more olive version of suzi skies in the pyrenees suede with topcoat?
ReplyDeleteThought Jane reminded me a bit of Grunge as well - would you please do a side-by-side swatch if possible?
ReplyDeleteGASP! I desperately hope these are not too limited, because I need Anne and Catherine H!
ReplyDeleteThese are all gorgeous; I can't wait to find out when they will be released!
ReplyDeleteI love them all! How gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteOMG I am a Henry VIII FREAK!! I have to get these. There's just no question. Thanks for showing us these!
ReplyDeleteyay can't wait for these, i'm getting all of them!!! love some RBL and Tudor history!!! :D
ReplyDeleteAhhh crap. I stopped buying RBL a while ago (just because of the price, no other reason), but I might cave for those first two. Gah. So pretty.
ReplyDeleteWow, I must have these all. My full name is Catherine Anne H. lmao.
ReplyDeleteI was so confused when I saw this and kept looking for another polish because Henry had 5 wives. (the one they didn't include he was married to for one day, she got off lucky because he gave her a home in germany where she happily lived the rest of her life out- because she was so ugly Henry refused to sleep with her) Love love the idea and the colours though! Thanks for the pictures!
