Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure blah blah 2010
The funny thing is, I wasn't even looking for these when I found them. I had decided that I wasn't going to find them so I should just forget about them and I was looking for those scented Revlons when all of a sudden there's this Sally Hansen display in my face! Woot!
I don't know the name of this collection or if it even is a collection or anything. I only grabbed the ones that looked interesting to me. These are my first new Sally Hansen Salons since they changed the bottle (BOO!!!). I must say... these new bottles look kinda cheap.... I thought the square bottles with the nice full length labels looked much more 'salon' than these.
Anyway. Here's what I picked.
Hidden Treasure, of course. I'm crazy about flakies. This is what two coats looks like alone. Kinda interesting, actually. Looks like an opal on my nails! But the personality of the polish really comes out more layered (I just used black cause it was next to me):
Look at that green! Ahh, that's so cool. Love it.
Lagoon... Which does weird things to my camera in sunlight. This was the only spot on the display that was empty but the picture of this bottle on the back of the display looked SO amazing.... I needed it... Had to go to another store to find it... but now I'm not that crazy about it. It's pretty, of course, it's a duochromey metallic blue/green, of course I like it! But I swear I must have six other polishes just like this. In fact, that Revlon Ocean Breeze (the scented one) that I was looking for when I found these is practically identical to this. Except it smells nice. This one doesn't.
Ring My Shell. This one stole my heart. It look like mother of pearl. My pictures didn't really capture all the iridescent goodness of this one. The base is a pearly white with a slight lavender tint, then there's some pink flash, some blue-green flash and a tiny amount of what looks like orange flash right before the pink shows up. And to make it even better, it's flecked with little shimmery speckles that look like crushed shell. It's so light and airy looking... it's totally a fairy polish. I thought it would look good over black like OPI Pearl Of Wisdom does, but it doesn't:
It just turns green. Almost all of the duochrome gets lost over black.
Sea and Be Seen. This one was hard to photograph and of course I had to smudge it right before taking the picture. Ugh. Anyway. It's kinda half purple half cornflower blue. Mostly blue. Little bit purple. It's a shimmer and it's made of little chunky particles which show pretty well in the indoor picture. Some of them flash blue and green, pretty cool looking.
Silver Lining. Ooooh sparkly. I swear I have a Sephora by OPI polish that looks just like this but I can't remember what it's called or where I put it... *sigh* So, this one is also made of little shimmer particles and the base is a very pale blue. The particles are all very shiny and very iridescent, so you end up with this sparkling blue-silver-white-yellow-pink-pastel ball of sparkle on each nail. The only downside to this one is that it's pretty sheer and the big stiff brush makes it hard to apply evenly.
I liked the formula on these. It wasn't particularly bad or particularly amazing, nothing stood out to me. That's a good thing for the most part. It was just... regular? Not thick, not thin, not buttery smooth but not chunky garbage either. The brush was pretty huge, though. I like the large 'one stroke' style brushes usually, but this one was a little too stiff which results in streaky/patchy application if you're not careful. Since the brush is so stiff, it tends to wipe off the previous coat when applying a second coat, so I'd simply recommend letting the previous coat dry for a little while before applying another. Also, these were pretty sheer, I did three coats of all but probably could have used a fourth on Sea and Be Seen and Silver Lining.
Pretty sweet, Sally Hansen. Do more like this.
You can't be serious. Are those the new bottles? Yuk!The other ones look so much more professional. You're right, booooo.
ReplyDeleteFlakies!! I have Nfu-Ohs, but I am curious about the SH version. I totally agree with you about the bottles...bleh!
ReplyDeleteThe other colours are fine, but I have dupes for them. And I just bought the scented Revlons too...I hope you do a review of those, just because I am curious about your opinion. No pressure, though!
Thanks as always for your pretty swatches!
Great photos, love 'em! I agree though, I did like the other bottles better, especially with the rubber handle they had. Eh, whatever. A note though about Hidden Treasure: it's a dead-ringer dupe for Nfu Oh #49. They look different in the bottle, but on the nail over black (how I usually wear it) I can't tell a bit of difference between them. The new Sally Hansen's are more expensive for drugstore polish IMO, but it's still cheaper than Nfu Oh.
ReplyDeleteAre you thinking of Just a Fairy Tail from Sephora by OPI?? Or maybe Lagoon-a Beach? I can not find Hidden Treasure anywhere. My neighborhood Target-CVS-Walgreens people are starting to think I am stealing because I walk in then walk out.
ReplyDeleteI am so mad, I have not been able to get this collection...Hidden treasure and "sea and be seen", are soooo pretty!
ReplyDeleteI have ''Shell We Dance'' by Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure and I must say, it's pretty streaky.
ReplyDeleteIt makes me wonder if this ''5-in-1'' stuff just doesn't work.
Ugh! I am so jealous! I can't find Hidden Treasures ANYWHERE. It's not that it's sold out- it's that the stores don't even carry it >:[ it looks soooo gorgeous. I guess I'll be find with eventually getting Nfu Oh 49 though
ReplyDeleteYou should do more Sally Hansen...try the Diamond Strength line.
ReplyDelete:]
Why does everyone have HT?! How are you all finding it when there isn't one to be found in my area of MICHIGAN? Oh, how I hate this state sometimes. We almost never get the good polish goodies. :(
ReplyDeleteColors look great on you, btw. :)
I think I need Sea & Be Seen as well as Hidden Treasure. Really lovely.
ReplyDeleteI was going to suggest Just a Fairy Tail, too. I'm pretty sure that one's been discontinued, at least at my local Sephora it has, so it might be worth looking into for anyone who wanted Fairy Tail and didn't grab it in time.
ReplyDeleteI hope to have the same experience as you, and HT will just jump out at me when I'm not looking for it. I have no hope of finding it in NJ right now, and I don't have time to go all over town looking.
ReplyDeleteWell hot dang, I can get flakies like GOSH even if I don't live in the UK. (And...yeah. I liked the old bottles better.)
ReplyDeleteCan you please please share where you found "Hidden Treasure"? I've literally been to about 10 different salons/drug stores/dept. stores (Target, Walmart) and cannot find it ANYWHERE!
ReplyDeleteApparently I'm not the only one who can't find Hidden Treasures. It seems it's quite the hot commodity right now! If anyone finds it, please let us know where!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite is See and be Seen, but I'm not going to hunt it out, and I might not even buy it- $7.50 is a bit much for me. Nice review though, the colors are all pretty nice.
ReplyDeleteOkay - where are these?!??
ReplyDeleteI have a Revlon Scents of Summer display in both the drugstores near me (Walgreens and Bartell's, a NW-based chain). Neither of them has Sally Hansen's Hidden Treasure.
...wanna do a polish swap...?
where can you find hidden treasure? great swatches!
ReplyDeleteI really like hidden treasure. I saw them in the drug store in my neighborhood but I was hesitant since it was $7.95 a bottle :\ Now I'm sure I want hidden treasure! :D Love your swatches btw.
ReplyDeleteI FINALLY found Hidden Treasure this afternoon too! I'd almost given up, but I had to go to Walgreens for Greenbags (of all things), so I had a quick peek at the Sally Hansen display. No Hidden Treasure. Was on my way to the counter when I glanced up, and on a high shelf, like where you'd put something if there was no room for it in cosmetics, was the display with all the new colors, including ONE Hidden Treasure! Squeeee :) It looks great over black, but I'm liking it over reds and oranges as well - it really gives them a shimmery summer-at-the-beach feel. So glad I found it, and glad you did too :)
ReplyDeleteI really like HT alone! You picked out some pretty ones for sure.
ReplyDeleteOh god I hope this is available in Australia, and at a decent price, because I NEED Hidden Treasure in my life.
ReplyDeleteman. i have called stores looking for this. i was pretty freakin jazzed about the loreal/northfolk stuff till i saw this.ok. when i find hidden treasure, i am going to grab a clerk and make them go in the back to get me more.i keep looking for it and see in on the blogs and i was looking forward to seeing it here because i knew i could find perfect, clear pics of it.i am in the middle of moving and on a no buy but man i can't find it where i live anyway. i'll be moving to a bigger city, so here's hoping. i can't even find it online. everyone who's supposed to have it, it's not on their site. patience sucks.
ReplyDeleteRing my shell is such a gorgeous colour! I hope I can find it in stores but when I went on Sally Hansen's site, it wasn't one of the colours!
ReplyDeleteHT and Sea and be seen are on the top of my list! Apparently they may be available in the UK in the Summer, I saw them swatched on ALU and loved them so much emailed Coty to find out if there were plans to release this line in the UK - you folks get all the good stuff! - and they replied to say possibly in selected Boots stores in the Summer, so am keeping my eye's peeled!
ReplyDeleteActually would love to see TH over see and be seen, wonder how that would look? Guess it would either be amazing or would trash both and look nasty!
ReplyDeleteI think while you were posting this, I was out discovering this line. The bottles do have a cheap look, but they feel solid anyway. As an arthritis sufferer, the rubber ring is nice in theory but not really useful.
ReplyDeleteI didn't find Hidden Treasures (but will keep watching for it) and only bought Grass Slipper, as I'd been jonesing for a creamy summer green for a week. I haven't used it yet but I'm hoping it blends in fairly well with the Zoya Flash collection. (It was about $6 at Target so it didn't feel like a huge gamble.)
I was VERY tempted by Lagoon but limited myself to ONE bottle, and I'm glad. After seeing your photos and description, I know I probably have at least three too-close-to-call dupes already.
Thanks for the post on these. As I stood there today wondering if this was the green that would satisfy my need, I wondered what you'd have to say. LOL
If it helps anyone, I found Hidden Treasures at a Walgreen's in Florida. Happy polish hunting!
ReplyDeletei will miss the old rubber handles :( but i do love sally hansen in general.
ReplyDeleteSeems like people are having luck finding Hidden Treasure @ Walgreens. I haven't gotten a bottle yet but I am on a serious mission now. It looked amazing over the black polish- almost like an iridescent snake skin pattern. So fun!
ReplyDeleteVery nice !
ReplyDeleteSince I know you love flakie polishes so well, I'd like to share a wonderful flakie layering combo I discovered: Jade is the new black with Nfu Oh blue green flakies (57 maybe? I can't remember which one I used) It's amazing!
ReplyDeleteDamn! I wished I hadn't bought all those NfuOh flakies. It's all your fault Scrangie! No, it's actually all my fault for staring at your pretty photos too long, then you get 'flakie on the brain."! LOL! I still feel like I hafto to have Hidden Treasure!
ReplyDeleteI hope you feel better soon, sweetie!
I almost picked up lagoon today but talked myself out of it right at the last minute. Glad I did, now. Also, OMGHIDDENTREASURE.
ReplyDeleteHooray! I've been searching far and wide for Hidden Treasure, and I found it at my local dumpy walgreens, just sitting on the shelf as though nothing were unusual about it. There were only 2 bottles left, so I snatched one up. Bonus, the bottles were buy one get one half off, so I got another Complete Salon Manicure, Midnight in NYC, for half the price. Yayyy!
ReplyDeleteI saw your swatches and I fell in *love* with Hidden Treasure... so I went on a Treasure hunt. :)
ReplyDeleteThe good news is I just it at Walgreens! Yay. I had to call three near me until I found one with it and I rushed over there to claim my prize. It was at a separate SH display and there were only two of each color (yet another reason HT is hard to find).
The best part - they were on sale buy one get one half off. :)
Oh my god the first two colors are really cool!! Love the first one most. I am looking for a color like that for a long time.
ReplyDeleteI found these at Walmart today, and immediately got all grabby. Picked up Hidden Treasure, Ring My Shell, and Sea and Be Seen. I almost got the silver one, but it's super sheer, so I put it back. My Ring My Shell has a very light pink tone to it, with a lot of green shimmer. I wish it looked like the pic here.
ReplyDeleteive been eyeballing these for a while now and couldn't bring myself to pick any up until i saw ur swatches. I picked up hidden treasure and dive deeper. come to think about it dive deeper looks to be about the same shade as ur snowman polish that is that really pretty light wintry blue color...that didn't turn out so pretty...lol. i think this one will turn out to be alot better..."cross ur fingers"
ReplyDeleteP.S.: LOOOOVE UR SWATCHES!
lindos

if anybody is still looking for it I know I've seen HT a number of times at the local riteaid whenever I've gone in there for other things :) I hope that helps somebody that is looking for it.
ReplyDeleteI picked up a couple of scented Revlons yesterday and they are AWFUL. They are stinky in a very unpleasant way.
ReplyDeleteFLAKIES!!!Thank you for awesome pics & descriptions & your creative take! Do you think you'd suggest 1 like sally hansen's Hidden Treasure you showed, only in Zoya or Nubar? I just love your descriptions, Also that Ring My Shell, do you know of a dead ringer for that one in Zoya or Nubar or No MIss Glitter Polish or just No Miss. (these are great quality polishes only without formealdehyde & toxics that seep into you through your nails & fingers)...STill, Must Be Glamorous!!!Thank you!
