I'm sure you've all seen the press release and tons of swatches of these already, so I won't bore you with the details. The one prominent feature of these is that, according to Orly, they're meant to be 'Minx-like'...
Luxe. This is a neutral gold foil, a little on the champagne side of gold. It's not too warm, which is good for me because warm golds look weird on me.
Rage. Sort of a pinkish-copper foil? But with really heavy silver foil particles. Has a bit of a speckled look. Reminds me of someone.... RAGE!
Shine. Pure silver foil. Not really unique, but still pretty. Looks like mirror balls. (Look at them shine!)
Nice formula on these. They needed at least two coats, but I did three. They're a dense metallic particle foil, which means they can be a little patchy if not applied evenly, hence the need for two to three coats -to get all the little particles even. Good dry time for Orly, but not super fast. Doesn't seem to gain any additional sparkle from topcoat, so if you don't have topcoat handy you'll be fine.
I like these a lot. They're some of the sparkliest foils I've ever seen. They are super noticeable and reflective, definitely and attention grabber.
Cool? Hell yes. Minx-like? No, not really. *Maybe* from a distance, but up close these would never pass for Minx. They're too foily and grainy and Minx's signature look is that elusive liquid-metal smooth look.

Nail polish has never reminded me of Final Fantasy 8...but now that you've said it, I'm going to unconsciously start associating all my polishes with RPGs! T_T
ReplyDeleteI'm wearing Luxe right now! I love it. I have Shine but I didn't pick up Rage. I need to get it. It looks pretty!
ReplyDeleteLovely swatches of these! I bought the gold and rose gold ones, but haven't worn them yet.
ReplyDeleteI run hot and cold with Orly, although these and their matte metalics seem to be good.
Hope you are well!
I'm waiting for these in the mail and I can't wait. Nice review.
ReplyDeleteI'm wearing a marble right now with Shine & Goth & loving it! I wore Rage last week & Luxe is next on the list =) I would love some polish this shiny in non-metallic colors.
ReplyDeletethanks for reviewing those :) i like them but they do not stand out enough for me to purchase :(

ReplyDeleteThese are really pretty. I might pick up Rage if not all of them.
Lemming killed :( gosh.. !
ReplyDeleteMinx-like or not, I still LOVE these. I am going to order at least two of them soon. Thanks for the pretty pics!
ReplyDeleteI love these, but I'm pretty certain Orly don't ship to the UK. Boo hiss!
ReplyDeleteI bought Luxe and Shine, if anyone wants Shine for cheaper, I think Sally Hansen's Xtreme Wear "Celeb City" is almost identical.
ReplyDeleteOh my god the FF8 reference simultaneously KILLED ME DEAD and made my life. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteFF8. YES. This is part of the reason I read your blog! I love all the great polishes and the bits of nerdism thrown in.
ReplyDeleteWoohoo! FFVIII rules
