Orly Metal Chic Collection
I was so torn on these. At first I thought, man, I'm matte-d out, I do not want to even look at another matte! But then I was like... well... I might as well take a look, I like the names... So I went to Sally, put them in my basket, brought them to the checkout and went eeeehhhh.... These are kinda boring. And I put them back! But then my curiosity got the better of me and I eventually ordered them from 8ty8 because they were way cheaper, and man, WHY DIDN'T I JUST BUY THESE THE FIRST TIME?! THEY'RE AWESOME!! ARGH!
Anyway. Yeah. I really, really misjudged these. Take a look.
Glam Rock. This is kind of a copper metallic-flake matte. See?? Isn't it cool? It's a lot like the OPI Suedes, but this is all metallic. Metallic base, metallic shimmer. Very interesting speckled effect.
Iron Butterfly. In-a-gadda-da-vida honey, don't you know that I love you... in a gadda da vida baby.... don't you know that I'll always be true.... Oh won't you come with me and take my hand.... Oh won't you... what? You honestly expected me to actually review a polish with a name like this? *continues rocking out*
Solid Gold. Very nice gold, a little orangey, maybe a hint of greenish-brown to it. I think my skin tone makes it pull more brownish. Nice metal flake action going on here. I'm diggin' it.
And, of course, with topcoat because DAMN:
Glam Rock.
Iron Butterfly. *organ solo*
Solid Gold.
The formula on these was excellent. Easy to work with, thick but not impossible, good opacity. They do dry quickly but not immediately so you have a little time to work. Really nice *fully* matte effect, not wishy-washy half-matte rubbery look that I hate. These are velvety.
So, yeah. They're kinda awesome. I am kicking myself for writing them off because I ended up liking these a LOT. Especially with topcoat.
awesome! I hate not-buyers remorse. I skipped out on some Up & Away colors and Absolutely Alice but them saw them at Ulta yesterday and got them, wondering "Why did I not order these when I bought their counterparts? What the hell was I thinking?" It's all good now. Whew! close one.
ReplyDeletePS- killer swatches! Keep rockin out
Glam Rock is my favorite of these, especially with that topcoat! I have really been into coppery colors lately.
ReplyDeletethese are just stunning!
ReplyDeleteI was the exact same way. I'd look at them, say I liked them, then back out of getting them. Then I saw them with top coat and hot DAMN! They look awesome.
ReplyDeleteDamn. Well, I'm stupid too. I had these in my hand at Sally a few weekends ago, and then put them back. Now I need them. Thanks for the swatches!
ReplyDeleteI will not buy a third black matte. I will not buy a third black matte. I will not.... bugger!
ReplyDeleteI just ordered Iron Butterfly, and I'm happy I did. :)
ReplyDeleteetailers, here I come...
ReplyDeleteHaha I bought Iron Butterfly a month ago off head2toebeauty.com
ReplyDeletesooo awesome... the name sold me.
These are gorgeous...and now 'Inna Gadda Da Vida' is stuck in my head. Thanks for swatching these :)
ReplyDeleteThey are all gorgeous but I LOVE LOVE LOVE the Glam Rock! I totally need to get that now!!! Thank you so very much for swatching these!!!
ReplyDeleteHah, your so cute:P
ReplyDeleteI'm not a matte fan but I like these. They look amazing, especially with top coat! I like them shiiiny:) **hugs**
I just have to say OMG! I am loving those metals!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE Iron Butterfly, so glad I have it already! *hugs bottle* with topcoat (I copied this from your posts about mattes/suedes lol) it's actually stunning :)
ReplyDeleteI love them, but I've noticed I have a LOT of chipping/peeling problems where my nails bend. It's easy to re-do them if that happens, but it's annoying to have to...
ReplyDeleteI love that song! I listen to it on a regular basis! PLeeeeeeease take my haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand!
ReplyDeleteHa, I did the same thing when I reviewed those with In a Gadda Da Vida, lol!
ReplyDeleteI gotta try those with a top coat, they look awesome.
These look awesome! I hope I have a Sally Beauty nearby! Getting non-OPI brands can be a pain in the butt.
ReplyDeleteNice...very, very, nice!
ReplyDeleteLove! I bought these a while ago, and haven't put them on yet. I so look forward to trying them now!
ReplyDeleteIn the Garden of Eden, Baby...the myth and the Simpsons episode will be stuck in my head all day...:)
I agree with you -- I have my matte top coat and a couple of other mattes because I adore the colors themselves (Orly's Blue Suede is the prefect shade of navy blue I'd been hunting for, and Veruschka is absolutely stunning), but I was done with mattes. Then I saw swatches of these, and I knew I had to have them. They're in the mail as I type, and now I'm even more excited than ever for them to arrive!
ReplyDeleteI honestly do not care for matte polish at all. The look just does not appeal to me. But, after you added top coat to them, they were out of this world. Absolutely amazing. :D Definitely might have to look into obtaining them. :D
ReplyDeleteI have all three of these and really love them.
ReplyDeletei have this collection and i love it !!! perfect on you :)
ReplyDeleteI was wishy washy on these as well, but eventually picked up Iron Butterfly. I love it1
ReplyDeleteThis is a nice little collection. I only own Iron Butterfly (wearing it now) but I totally want to get the other two as well.
ReplyDeleteSick and tired of mattes - thank God you can also wear 'em with top coat :)
ReplyDeleteIron Butterfly is one of those polishes that I am compelled to buy based solely on its name. Even if it were the ugliest polish ever (which it obviously is not!), I'd still get it. :) 8 minute drum solo!
ReplyDeleteAll I can say is HOT DAMN!
ReplyDeleteI heard these were like OPI Suede, which I loved - so I bought them and LOVED them! Haha. How can you not think of that song when you hear the name Iron Butterfly? I'm glad they are re-releasing these. I think they didn't realize just how popular they would be!
ReplyDeleteThey look HOT with a topcoat, too! You do the best swatches. If I didn't have them, I would totally get them because of these.
Wow! These are stunning! They look great with or without topcoat.
ReplyDeleteWow. Those are niiiiiice. Haven't shopped much for polishes lately but I think I might head on over to 8ty8 right now and give them a look...
ReplyDeleteGlam rock looks awesome! i've never been too much into metal colours but these are certaintly inspiring.
ReplyDeleteThey are awesome!!!!! with top coat. Wow.
ReplyDeleteStill cant get my head around the whole matte thing and scrolled down your post thinking "please have done the top coat thing, please ..." Knew you would! Whole other level, they look gorge with a glossy top coat.
ReplyDeleteOh God, Glam Rock is soooo great ! I must have it ! And the three ones look very bautiful with top coat, they are so shiny !
ReplyDeleteThey really look similar to Suede ones (which I love), but I prefer these colours with top coat, so shiny!
ReplyDeleteI'm afraid I'll have to place another order to 8ty8 ;-)
Wow so gorgeous with or without topcoat
ReplyDeletelove 'em!! love 'em!! love 'em!! I want iron butterfly soooooo much hahas. expecially with top coat, is matches my new top too!!~ ahh!!~ Must. go. order. now!
ReplyDeleteThnaks so much for the swatches XD
Iron Butterfly = SLAYERRRR ????
ReplyDeleteI desperately need this polish
I NEED iron butterfly o.o ohhh gunmetal tones...
ReplyDeleteI had a similar experience. I got the gold and copper ones a few weeks ago on sale at Sallys and I LOVE them! Now I need Iron Butterfly (rocking out in my head, one of my fav songs!)
ReplyDeleteI hate the rubbery matte look too but these aren't like that so I thought, okay....maybe. With the topcoat? That sealed the deal. I'm getting some!
ReplyDeleteI bought Iron Butterfly just for the main reason of the name. I loved their music. Yes, I am old enough to have seen them in concert twice. I loved to dance to Ina-Godda-Davida. I don't know if I spelled it right. I know I couldn't dance the long to save my life now. I love the polish so I'm really glad I bought it. Wish I'd gotten the other two.
ReplyDeleteHave and love the Iron Butterfly, and Solid Gold! They look SO awesome with a topcoat. Better than OPI suedes (which I still love anyway...)
ReplyDeleteSo, here's a goofy story- my husband, who used to be on the radio and interview bands, says that the background on 'In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida' is this: The original words to the song were actually 'In The Garden Of Eden', but the first time they performed the song their lead singer was hammered, and just slobbered out the words as
'in-a-gadda-da-vida'. But people loved the song/sound, so they kept it that way. I don't know if that's true, but that's what he swears. But you know those radio guys...
Totally awesome with the gloss look!
ReplyDeleteHow'd your nails get so short...?
Loveeeeee the black with top coat!
