Ulta Professional Green With Envy
This is so gorgeous, I don't even know what to say about it. It's too nice. It's too perfect.
It's a very dark blackened yellow-toned green shimmer. As much as I love green, I'm really very disappointed with all of these strongly blue-toned greens that have come out recently. I feel like they lack a certain richness... Like they're watered down green. This particular polish does have a slight blue undercurrent, but it's yellow enough to make me happy.
The first green polish I ever owned was a little like this. Super dark, a little yellow toned. I still have it, even though it's half empty and I'm too scared to use it for fear of somehow ruining it or finishing it. Maybe that's where my love of blackened yellow-toned greens comes from. And then when Zulu came along? Heaven. Bonus points to anyone who knows what that first dark green polish is... Scrangie trivia! Hahahahaha!
Anyway... Ulta Green with Envy. I do have two complaints about it. First, the name. Green With Envy? Are you kidding me?! You couldn't come up with anything better than that? That's one of my peeves. Every green polish being named Green With Envy or Envy or something related to that phrase, and every red polish with glitter being named Ruby Slippers or some variation. Creativity... [Do you need it?] [You can have this.]
My second complaint is the formula. It was kind of sheer and maybe a little watery. I needed to use three coats. I hate it when companies slap the word 'professional' on polish. Like Sinful... yeah... no. Professional my ass. Okay, back to the Ulta polish. The brush was a little strange shaped and the vanity cap was hard to remove as well. So this polish isn't entirely perfect, but the color is definitely worth any trouble I may encounter in the formula or brush.
I hope Ulta keeps making cool polishes like this. There were some other cool looking blackened colors on the display, but they looked *too* black so I didn't grab 'em. The only other Ulta polishes I own are glitters, which I also love, but they were limited edition Christmas type things. Maybe I'll post those one day!

I had a Maybelline dark green in the 90s...the name escapes me, but it was rich, with blue and yellow tones. This Ulta polish does remind me of that. Lovely as always!
ReplyDeleteBTW, did you hear the sad news that the Nailphile is no longer blogging? I am growing my nails in mourning...
LMAO Scrangie your [Do you need it?] [You can have this.] just gave me such a FFXI flashback. I'd already been missing it because of course Halloween was one of my favorite events, and now here comes Christmas ... /sigh if only there were at LEAST 10 more hours in every day, maybe I could fit in half of my hobbies =)
ReplyDeleteThis is a stunning shade of green ! I just love it when it is dark enough, but not too dark so you can still see that this is a green and not black :-)
ReplyDeleteMore greens! I love it! It looks really nice.
ReplyDeleteLike Ive told you before, you have given me a love for deep green polish. I want!!!!!
ReplyDeleteAriane
This color is hot!!
ReplyDeleteI just checked out the Nailphile...I sure will miss her blog.

Wow... I'm not the only FFXI nut here? LOL! I had to do a double take at that one!
ReplyDeleteAnyways, I love greens like that. Most dark greens tend to be too dark in my experience, not enough green. This one looks quite nice!
lol, yeah, i take "professional" on any np label with a grain of salt
ReplyDeletebut that green is a beautiful color on you. it reminds me of my first dark green np, covergirl's midnight forest. i still have a bottle or two of it, and i'm so afraid to use it! i don't want it to be all gone :(
I love the shade, looks pretty similar to WnW Morbid which has a pretty great formula IMO :)
ReplyDeleteLove it!! OMG!!! LOVE IT! I was just in Ulta Friday night and only gave the Ulta line a quick glance---guess Ill be going back to purchase this one :) Thanks Scrangie!
ReplyDeleteCould the first green be a Wet'n'Wild, befreo the started putting names on them? I can't find either of my 2 bottles right now (I'm reorganizing my stash and it's all over), but it is one of my first green & one of my favorites.
ReplyDeleteIt's a shame, Wet'n'Wild used to just be liners, lipstick, & polish and they survived to be over 20 years old. Now they don't have a 1/3 or 1/4 the polish colors they used to. I feel sad.... and old. ;)
PS: Does anybody remember Andrea (Andrea/Ardell that makes lashes and eye makeup remover) nail polishes? They were the other company that made non main stream colors, way back '80s. Loved them!
Holy crap, did you just make FFXI references in there? {Teleport-Altep} {Do you need it?}
ReplyDeletegorgeous green! Just how I like it! Before I even read your post and when I saw the name, I was like "every single company has a green called green with envy" very...eh...creative!? Or not! LOL
ReplyDeleteHaha I got a ffxi flashback as well! {Holy} {Moogle} {Full attack!} {Bat}{man}
ReplyDeleteHi Scrangie!
ReplyDeleteGreen metallic anything is my weakness- I love the color!
Farmgirl
GRRRRRRR!!! For some reason my Ulta NEVER has this shade!!! :( Looks gorgeous on you!
ReplyDeleteI want to see the ulta glitters!
ReplyDeleteWas the first green WnW Blackest Green or something like that? It was on my wishlist on MUA for an age or two, until I figured out that it just wasn't happening. lol I'm so glad I have GWE--it's fantastic!
ReplyDeleteI actually prefer the formula of Ulta's regular polish to its "Professional" polish.
ReplyDeleteBut damn, that is one nice color!
REALLY NICE COLOR

Very pretty! Reminds me Brucci Black Emerald.
ReplyDeleteWow, amazing... an Ulta nail color I might actually purchase!
ReplyDeleteThis is a polish I must get. I'll be going online to get this polish. It also kills me when "professional" is used on a label. Why do they think they're professional?
ReplyDeleteI looked at this today at Ulta, but it was the purple that really tempted me. I've only tried the Ulta Professional polish in a base coat and did not know the black square top was removable. It's worked for me so far, but I tend to just slap base coat on with no accuracy or precision.
ReplyDeleteOh wow, FFXI reference! You are now my most favorite nail polish blog forevers.
ReplyDeleteJust to confuse things, I have a dark red polish called Envy!
ReplyDeletelindo, maravilhoso...
ReplyDeleteaqui no brasil dificil achar assim hem
beijos
