I need something non-glitter to break up all the glitter posts... Everything I've planned on posting is glitter... Awesome, yet monotonous. I wanted to post (among many, many other things) the new Jessica Burlesque collection or the Illamasqua Dystopia collection, but I haven't finished editing the pictures... Then I remembered I haven't posted this new Sally Hansen color!
Opulent Cloud. This is the fabled Opulent Cloud. I passed on it the first time I saw it on the display. I changed my mind and went back the next day for it and it was gone. I found it again a couple days later. So... Opulent Cloud. How do I describe this? It's a blue-grey base with golden shimmer. It has a slight duochrome effect. I was expecting more of the old Sally Hansen kind of duochrome, but this one is more subtle. It's a little frosty. To tell you the truth, I'm really not wild about it. I don't hate it, it's just.... meh. I could go either way on it. It's kinda cool, but I think the raves about it lead to heightened expectations so when I finally saw it, it wasn't as good in real life as it was in my head.
I think I feel the same way about the whole HD line. I thought I loved the colors, wow, blue, green, yellow, purple! But then when I was standing in front of the display I just didn't see anything about them that stood out to me. Yeah, they were nice colors, but not as special as I had pictured them in my mind.
I really have a love/hate relationship with Sally Hansen. Almost all of my most sought-after and coveted wishlist polishes are old Sally Hansen. I adore old Sally Hansen. Prisms, Magical Nail Makeup, glitters, Fire Opals, unique colors.... I can't get enough. And the funny thing is I really don't like the formula or the excessively long necks on the bottles, but I put up with it because the colors are just so fantastic. But new Sally Hansen... New Sally Hansen makes these cool colors, waves them in your face and then makes them IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND!!! Like those Tracy Reese Salon polishes. It's like hunting Jackalope. Or, what was it... Emerald Ring? And the other gem-themed ones? If I hadn't actually seen pictures of people wearing them, I'd think they never actually existed. I didn't see last Fall's collection until this Spring. Seriously, what is UP with that?
I feel like swatching my whole ancient Sally Hansen collection.
i love the prisms too,i own garnet lapis but that is only because i found it on a market stall!I like my sally hansen chrome nail makeup in amethyst crome.I wanted honeydew and the purple polish from that range but havn't been able to find them.
ReplyDeleteI know the feeling. For some utterly STUPID reason, I got a little too agressive in cleaning out my stash and got rid of a couple of the prisms. Why can't they make THOSE again! lol I hate ebay prices
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with you on Sally Hansen being a PITA when it comes to finding their newer special colors. I hadn't even seen a single one of them, until I went to a new Rite Aid Wed. and actually found Opulent Cloud (which kind of looks like Revlon Street Wear's Gold Mine, an old fav. of mine). Dumb luck too, since we had passed the store, but turned around to check it out. Seriously though, do they even realise how much $ they would make if they put more bottles of these awesome colors out there? Plus, finding them online would be nice.
ReplyDeleteAwww sorry you're not crazy about this one, but it really does look fabulous on you!
ReplyDeleteThey definitely need to relaunch old Sally Hansens!
That is a lovely color!
ReplyDeleteI think it looks great on you! I hate that though, when you just feel meh about something.
ReplyDeleteand I would be all over an old SH post. just sayin'. I love my prisms.
I like it, but I already have OPI Brand New Skates, which I think is a better version of this
ReplyDeleteI just bought Opulent Cloud on Weds. It's really lovely on you. I think the name is part of the appeal. It's almost like English in translation. It doesn't quite make sense but is too pretty to be corrected.
ReplyDeleteI have a bunch of the Sally Hansen Magicals that I have been so excited about. I would definitely hit up the Sally Hansen displays on my 90s time travel for fantastic nail polish of years gone by. I may bring back a pair of funky platform shoes and a guy with long hair in a plaid shirt while I'm at it.
I'd love it if you swatched all your ancient Sally Hansen polishes. I'm not familiar and it would be great to see them. :)
ReplyDeletethere have been sooo many tracy reese collection colors i haved pined for in many a walgreens, cvs, etc, all to no avail. other than that collection, the colors that have been churning out are a bit boring.
ReplyDeleteI thought the whole fall HD line was dissapointing, other than opulent cloud they don't have that inner glow like the previous collection did. I actually passed on it initially too but caved to the hype on MUA. I just realized it's similar to Revlon Steel Her Heart so I might take it back.
ReplyDeleteHi Scrangie! I bought the entire HD collection! Including the new fall colors. I should have tried them before buying them all - the colors I love, but the formula isn't so great. Not very durable. I had been avoiding the SH Xtreme line - because the packaging makes them look so cheap, however, I couldn't resist Ivy Leaque - and I was pleasantly surprised that I got 5 days wear without any tip wear or chipping. Who knew? LOL Thanks for the great blog! :)
ReplyDeleteI think limited editions should be outlawed LOL. I refuse to make daily or even weekly stops at the drugstore just to look for polish, but that doesn't keep me from feeling the urge... I found the Tracey Reese spring collection 2-3 months after it's supposed launch date, after I'd basically given up, and I wonder if I'll have the same kind of wait for Opulent Cloud.
ReplyDeleteDooooooooooood swatch your old SH's! Dooo eeeeeettt!! XD
ReplyDeleteI'm not feelin the funk on Opulent Cloud either. I think it would look like doodie on me.
Do it! Do it! Swatch your old gems! Show the people what is possible, who knows what you'll inspire?
ReplyDeleteI loathe how difficult it is to find Sally Hansen polishes too. I don't get the strategy of making them that rare. They seem to sell pretty well so wouldn't they make more money if they were more available? And some of their lines are more easy to find than others. Seasonal salon line polishes are practically impossible, but Insta-Dri and Extreme Wear displays show up relatively well stocked and on time. What gives?
ReplyDeleteIf only SH would choose an online retailer to sell through that could carry their seasonal collections, maybe we'd have some peace on the issue.
I personally love this colour, from what I can see on the pic. It doesn't look spectacular in any way but I do like it alot, I would probably get it myself if I could find it.
ReplyDeleteI love SH polishes but the good ones are incredibly hard to find. I haven't seen this color yet (and probably won't for a while). I didn't get my hands on the Tracey Reese polishes until the end of August (I started seeing pictures of those online in January)! I would love it if you swatched all of your old Sally Hansen polishes because your collection is probably fabulous.
ReplyDeleteThis stuff is all over the Bangor, ME area! Every display I have seen is full. If you're here and want it, you're in luck! I did pick one up...it is pretty nice. :)
ReplyDeleteI don't really like this one. Good thing cause I can't find it online or anywhere else. Typical.
ReplyDeleteOk, I HAVE to ask. How much polish remover a month do you use ?? I use like one bottle a month and already feel like it's a loooot, but I'm really curious about how much you need, as sometimes you swatche 10 polishes a day... :)
ReplyDeletePretty shade but I'm not crazy about it. I really like Xtreme Colors. I bought the other HD's and I like them. I haven't seen anything of the new collection. I'll just stick to the better brands.
ReplyDeletenot bad, but not my favorite
ReplyDeleteI think I'm going to have to give this color another chance. I wore it on a rainy day and I wasn't really digging it. Looks great on you though. These displays are full and pretty much everywhere in the Bronx.
ReplyDeleteJust found this yesterday and while I am not crazy about the streakiness "as-is" putting a matte topcoat over it makes it much more interesting.
ReplyDelete(I also liked the red "Zip" but I have others like it, and again, the streaks!
But, put some Essie MAY over it and the gold highlights take centerstage! It rivals Nubar Contempo for my favorite matte red, now, for its depth and glow.)
HTH! =]
