Okay, this is totally random but I figured you guys would have some great suggestions.
Recommend me a lip balm!
I normally like My Lip Stuff but I'm wanting something thicker or more substantial.
So, what's your favorite lip balm everyone?
EDIT: Holy crap, you guys ROCK!! I knew I could count on you for awesome recommendations. I now have a lip balm wishlist about a mile long! If you still have suggestions, keep them coming, I'm going lip balm shopping! :D Thank you so much. Group hug. Awwwwe.
When they restock them, The Garden Bath on Etsy has some great lip balms.
ReplyDeleteFresh - sugar
ReplyDeleteI recently found a lip balm at Yankee Candle of all places. Shaped like one of their candles its too cute! But the best part is I love the texture, they're thick and work great. They come in different flavors too.
ReplyDeleteI CO Bigelow peppermint. The minty-ness is wonderful. I don't know if that would be thick enough though...
ReplyDeletesoft lips! makes your lips all tingly too because there is menthol in it
ReplyDeleteKiehl's Lip Balm SPF 15! It moisturizes like Vaseline and has a hint of color.
ReplyDeleteEOS!!! paraben free and all!!! awesome stuff!http://www.evolutionofsmooth.com/
ReplyDeleteI always use plain old Strawberry Chapstick. It leaves lips plump with a satiny finish :)
ReplyDeleteI love burt's bees during the day and smith's rosebud salve at bedtime.
ReplyDeleteI've used chapstick, burt's bees, carmex, blistex, etc. The best thing I've found is Aquaphor Healing Ointment. All it took was one use to see and feel a difference
ReplyDeleteI looove Better Botanicals Ayurvedic Lip Therapy. Comes in yummy scents like cardamom, mango, passion fruit, nectarine, ginger... It's cheap and it works!! I buy in bulk!! (amazon.com: http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=better+botanicals+ayurvedic+lip+therapy&x=0&y=0)
ReplyDeleteThere are only two lip balms I'll use. At night I use Blistex "Herbal Answer", it's great. I put it on really thick before bed and in the morning when you wash up all the dry/dead skin comes off your lips and they are so smooth! During the day, I use Chapstick "All Natural", it's like the other but lighter and shinier for the daytime. I've tried countless brands/kinds and these are the best I've found. I'm in Canada though, so I hope you can find these in the States. Good luck, Michelle.
ReplyDeleteI love those pop flavoured ones from Claire's.. the coca-cola and cherry coke ones are the best. Those two are even tinted so they look great and feel really good. Having said that... Yankee Candles do lip balms?? I WANT!!! LOL!
ReplyDeleteI have used every damn thing under the sun, then discovered MAC's lip conditioner in the pot and it was all over with. I am addicted. So creamy and moisturizing, smells like vanilla (but subtle) and slight sheen. Oh also SPF 15. Now I have 2 un-tinted and 1 tinted :)
ReplyDeleteCarmex!
ReplyDeletehttp://www.mycarmex.com/our-products/default.aspx
Carmex hands down...
ReplyDeleteLike Debo said, Yankee Candle lip balm! It's so smooth and smells amazing! I prefer the flavor Black Cherry. Plus, it has SPF 15.
ReplyDeleterosebud strawberry lip balm
ReplyDeleteHonestly, I LOVE the mac lip treatment in the POT. I have used two full containers. It is so conditioning and it is worth the money! The texture is amazing!
ReplyDeleteMIssDeeCanada
Weleda Everon is holy grail material.
ReplyDeleteIt's thick and creamy but not waxy, it lasts very long on my lips so that I don't have to reapply it every five seconds and the vanilla-rose scent is divine!
<3
My HG is Bonne Bell Lipsmacker in Strawberry. I always come back to it.
ReplyDeleteLypsyl from CVS is my ultimate favorite!
ReplyDeleteIf you're after a stick balm, go with Burt's Bees Replenishing Lip Balm (with the red lid) - sooo moistuirising and absorbs right in.
ReplyDeleteIf you like a pot, definately go with Trilogy Everything Balm. This is an NZ company so I'm not sure if they have it in the US, but it is the best most moisturising and absorbing in balm EVER. A bit exxy for me, but I got mine free from a sales rep :). Also great on cuticles!
I absolutely love anything by CO Bigelow. Actually, I won't use anything else.
ReplyDeleteSo far, the best for me is 'Yes to Carrots' (not the mint one, though). It's all natural (no chemicals at all) so easily tolerated by the organism and it really nourishes my lips and prevent them from their constant dryness. Not too thick, not greasy or gross on lips. I didn't thought it'd be so great but it is.
ReplyDeleteRosebud salve...$6 at sephora...lasts forever...comes in original, mint, strawberry, and brambleberry rose
ReplyDeleteCarmex makes my lips really dry afterwards... I like Burt's Bees but it also makes my lips a bit dry afterwards.
ReplyDeleteI like Chicken Poop! It's all natural and dunno, it's my favorite.
Ingredients:
Soy, jojoba, sweet orange, lavender essential oil, bees wax.
https://www.ilovechickenpoop.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=65_66&zenid=gbg3b9a3rogrfvhr73ikjvqpl2
Leaves my lips soft even after it "fades" away.
It may sound strange, but Eucerin Aquafor is wonderful for lips. Better than any other lip balm I've used. If my lips aren't terribly chapped I'll use my trusty Burt's Bees though.
ReplyDeleteLush's lip balms are amazing! My favourite are whipstick (chocolate and orange scent),honey trap (honey of course) and their first ever lip balm which is still available and called lip service. They have brought out a xmas one called let them eat cake,i have one but the smell is very very sweet so i only like it in small doses as it really does smell like a syrupy cake.Apparently their none of your beeswax lip balm is really good too,i havn't tried that one out yet
ReplyDeleteI am blessed with full lips that are very sensitive and prone to drying out, so I always have one of these handy -
ReplyDeleteBurts Bees Honey Lip Balm (great for everyday!)
Lush's Honey Trap Lip Balm (perfect when I need something thick)
Fresh Sugar Lip Balm (pricey, but perfect before bed for soft lips)
Good luck and I hope you find one that works for you! :)
I swear by Eve Lom Kiss Mix - moisturising and minty fresh, bit pricey but lasts ages. I also like Philosophy Kiss Me Red or Clear (I struggle with the 'flavours' as they are very sticky, the clear and red are not in the least sticky and again last forever, and cheap on your side of the pond. Others I'd recommend are Caudalie lip balm - a little bullet (like lipstick)which is rich in honey, goes on effortlessly and very moisturising, or Propolis Aloe Vera or Honey. I can also manage with Burt's Bees (tin only tho, not bullet). (Good job you didn't ask aboit mosituriser or cleanser or we'd have been here all night! Ha ha)
ReplyDeleteC.O. Bigelow®
ReplyDeleteSPF 15 Mentha Lip Balm Stick (No Shine Formula)
Best lip balm by far.
When I was looking for one someone told me that most skiers preferred Kiehl's Lip Balm #1 and so far it's the best that I've found. The best for the price too. I am not a skier but my lips would crack in the winter months even here in Texas.
ReplyDeleteOh a subject near and dear to my heart. I adore Palmer's Dark Chocolate & Peppermint Lip butter. It smells so delish and is so moisturizing. I'm currently trying their Cocoa Butter stick, which is also nice, but looks kind of like you are rubbing a glue stick on your lips b/c it's so hilariously huge.
ReplyDeleteAnother favourite is Crazy Rumours lipbalm. They come in different tea and coffee inspired scents. I can't get enough of the Orange Bergamot one... swoon. But sadly they are not very accessible.
My favorite is Fresh Sugar lip treatment, but it's stupid expensive. I also love Eos mint (which is pretty cheap, and I love gimmicky packaging so I like the sphere, though I also have the tube to stick in a pocket when needed).
ReplyDeleteQtica Intense Lip Repair Balm
ReplyDeleteIt's mostly highly purified Lanolin, so it's really thick, and sticks to your lips. But once you manage to spread it well, it doesn't feel sticky or kiss off.
Since it hasn't been mentioned yet, and this is one of my other obsessions (MUA is the great enabler), I had to chime in with Bourjois Baume de nuit, and lipsyl (from walgreens).
ReplyDeleteLansinoh Lanolin ointment.
ReplyDeleteThis is actually for 'breastfeeding mothers' lol but it works amazingly well on lips.
Increadibly moisturising and healing, very heavy and stays on forever. Nice on the cuticles too.
Check out the reviews on MUA it has 4.8 lippies with 59 reviews.
rosebud salve or burt bee's replenishing (the red one). it's really mosturizing!
ReplyDeletei've also heard LUSH balms are good, but i haven't tried them myself
I have been using Palmer's Coco Butter Formula Swivel Stick for about a decade. It's very moisturizing and smooth and has a very light scent.
ReplyDeleteI really like burts bees in the pot/ jar it's def my favorite, although it nowhere near thick, it lasts a long time, is nice n minty and doesn't leave little gunk clumps on you lips like bigelow and others can.
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of co bigelow i've used all their stuff (i get a lot of bath&body gift cards for holidays) and i've noticed that they never last at all and they leave my lips really dry afterwards. It reminds me of something i once heard about companies purposly putting drying ingrediants in their lip stuff to make u use more... I dunno if its true - but that has been a concern of mine with bigelow.
I did just discover an amazing gloss a few days ago. I know u said balm, but this stuff comes in a squeeze tube like blistex and bigelow and the one i used adds no color, only a little glittery shimmer - but not BAM! type glitter. It's called Beauty Rush from Victoria's Secret (strawberry). Its the most moisturizing gloss ive ever used, its thick and
silky and tastes amazing! The best part is, it lasts FOREVER and when its finally gone i hardly notice because my lips are still so soft and supple. Aaaand its not sticky (unless u glop on a ton) and its gunky clup free. I usually HATE victorias secret (i think all their body stuff stinks like bug spray) but after my friend let me use her gloss i ran out and bought one the very next day. This stuff rocks!
My favorites are Chapstick All Natural, Burt's Bees Honey Lip Balm, Alba Coconut Cream, and The Body Shop's Vitamin E Lip Balm & the Lip Butters.
ReplyDeleteSometimes I like a more waxy balm (like the E & Honey ones) and other times I like something more creamy ones (like the Alba or the Lip Butter).
Burt's Bees! (The mint one, not the honey.)
ReplyDeleteHigh end: Korres Lip Butters. A variety of colors (check the guava if you want colorless), lightweight and super moisturizing. I have 3: guava (no color), pomegranate (warm pink), rose (deep reddish berry).
ReplyDeleteLow end: Netrogena makes a good chapstick type stuff and when my lips are dry and cracking, Neosporin lip treatment makes them right as rain.
I didn't like fresh sugar lip treatment, it's really REALLY soft and melted on a warm day. It wasn't even in my car, just my train case in my room. It didn't make a mess, but it's still a pain.
My favorites are Aromaleigh lipbalms: French cocoa bliss, pink grapefruit, licorice twist... :)
ReplyDeletehttp://www.aromaleigh.com/neararli.html
Jack Black! You can get it at Sephora. Thick, spf, moisturizing, great cents, not sticky!
ReplyDeleteGreat reviews everywhere, and I swear by it!
Carmex. Have been a Carmex user for years. I have one by my bed, one on my make up table, one in my pencil case and one in my handbag!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeletex
I love the Rosebud salve I got from Sephora, and my mom's my mom's dermatologist recommended Eucerin Aquafor
ReplyDeleteEcolips! You can get it at REI or just order it online www.ecolips.com.
ReplyDeleteI get the hemp one which is VERY subtly vanilla scented (I can't stand vanilla and even I like this lip balm). It's very buttery and lasts a long time.
Also their ecolips gold is amazing, too. it's an unscented lip balm made with super high quality jojaba seed oil (which is second only to hempseed oil as far as moisturizing properties).
And other than that, I use Burt's Bees. If I'm snowboarding and need something that will stick to my lips like glue (like stay on for hours at a time even if it's windy and snowing and freezing) I'll use carmex in the click stick mint or strawberry flavor. You can find it at target.
KORRES Lip Butter have recently became my new favourite...
ReplyDeleteI make my own because I never found anything that I loved. I'm happy to send you some if you like. PS it's all natural, but smells/tastes like a tropical margarita
ReplyDeletei really like aquaphor
ReplyDeleteDefinitely Carmex or Aquaphor. I like lip stuff that is really thick.
ReplyDeleteThe Nivea one works for me and it is tinted. The EOS ones dries my lip. I also really enjoy Yes to Carrots! Lip Butter 95% Organic.
ReplyDeleteLush Lite lip balm is amazing! I like honey trap as well, but Lite lip balm even more for the more subtle smell.
ReplyDeleteJust found a great one. It's Carmex Moisture Plus, and it's in a stick form, so you apply it like lipstick. It's wonderful! It's very dry here, and this works well.
ReplyDeleteChapstick in the blue tube. And a nappy cream called Am-o-Lin that you can only get here in New Zealand so actually that's not very helpful! (But seriously, it's the best stuff ever for lips, I've used it since I was little!)
ReplyDeleteKiehls or Palmers Dark Chocolate and Mint
ReplyDeleteI have tried a LOT of lip balms (and have been allergic to around half of them =/) but my absolute favorite and HG is Soapalaya Soaps Green Tea Lip Butter (on Etsy). I swear it is the best lip balm in the world. I have three at all times (desk, makeup bag, bedside). The coffee one is nice too, but not quite as conditioning. Alex's regular lip balms are a little more slidy than I'm a fan of, but truly, the Green Tea ones are AMAZING. It sounds like just what you're looking for too - it's substantial and very, very emollient, but it's not at all overly waxy. =)
ReplyDeleteMy favorite is Crazy Rumors lip balm ( http://www.crazyrumors.com/ ). They have all kinds of delicious coffee, tea, and ice cream flavors and the best part is they're cruelty free! I must have a dozen of them and I just tuck different flavors into all of my bags so I always have one.
ReplyDeleteMy "can't live without lipthing" is Elizabeth Ardens "Eight hour cream". I think it's fantastic.
ReplyDeleteKorres are my faves, super moisturising and they come a lovely range of colours that leave a sheer tint on the lips. My faves are Jasmine (pale pink) and Wild Rose (rose stain)
ReplyDeleteI have a lip balm/gloss problem so I have many options! But my favourites are CO Bigelow peppermint and cinnament lip shine. Also Vintage Sister, they make the lip balm themselve and always have really cute collections for each season, they have really good halloween ones now.
ReplyDeletewww.vintagesister.com
Yes to Carrots! I got a three pack at Target for $5.
ReplyDeleteKiehl's lip balm #1 Enough said.
ReplyDeleteI can't rave enough (!!!) about Paula's Choice Lip and Body Treatment Balm. Check out reviews on MUA :)
ReplyDeleteMy absolute favorite Lip Balm is gloMinerals The Mint Balm. This stuff is seriously amazing. It comes in a giant chapstick tube and it's the bomb. It is free of all the yucky ingredients a lot of lip balms have like mineral oil that can clog pores. It smells yummy and lasts so long. I seriously love it!
ReplyDeleteOk, wow, there's already been 30,000 comments, but I have to share mine!
ReplyDeleteI have converted other people to my fave before: MAC's Lip Conditioner!! Not the colored version, just the regular.
I am totally addicted, I put it on every night before bed. It's got the most perfect soft vanilla scent. And I can even feel it still on in the morning! (Even after a 12 hour sleep sometimes)
It's so good, and I'm so picky! I've actually bought backups! I LOVE IT!
if you're a fan of natural cosmetics, then I recommend Suki Lip balm, it's thick and lasts a long time, it makes the lips supple and moisturized, when applied to lips the effect of the balm stays a while
ReplyDeleteI have three recommendations for a thicker balm - all are natural - and very good!
ReplyDelete1) Rocky Mountain Soap lip balm - there are a couple different flavors: berry, coconut, peppermint, etc.
www.rockymountainsoap.com
2) Yes to Carrots C me smile lip butter - there are a few flavors, I can't quite remember them all - berry for sure.
3) Moody Bee beeswax lip balm - only one flavor: vanilla & peppermint. This one is a teeny bit thinner than the others, but still awesome.
www.moodybee.com
Hopefully you find something that works - there's nothing worse than sore, dry lips!
www.yestocarrots.com
Boots Grape, Olive, & necterine Lip Butter is think and instantly moisturizing. Works great, and easy to find at Target.
ReplyDeleteI use two - the Korres lip butters which are beautiful, and my absolute fave Ganache for Lips, made with real chocolate no less. :D Can highly recommend both. :)
ReplyDeleteKiehl's No. 1 balm. Great stuff.
ReplyDeleteI love the Nivea Kiss of Moisture in the dark blue tube and the Kiss of Color in Passionfruit for light tint :D
ReplyDeleteCO bigelows are great for glossy ones, but not too long lasting. the best "chapstick" type balm i've found is bare escentuals buzz latte, but it seems to have been discontnued so it's hard to find now, but there's some on ebay. lately i've been hooked on burts bees for a good basic.
ReplyDeleteCO Bigelow's Mentha Lip Balm Stick
ReplyDeletePretty pricey for lip balm ($8.50) but if you wait for a Bath and Body Works Sale you can sometimes get one for free or BOGO free.
smith rosebud minted rose (or just plain vaseline)
ReplyDeleteOn an extremely dry day I think a thick clear gloss (juicy tube, diorkiss) does a good job sealing in the moisture as well.
Holiday Avon balms. Marshmellow being my favorite or the old white chocolate (without sparkles/shimmer). I find them on eBay all the time.
ReplyDeleteI was skeptical about the $22.50 price tag, but Fresh Sugar lip treatment is buttery and wonderful. My lips got chapped being out in dry Las Vegas, and now they're better because of that lip balm. HIGHLY recommend!
ReplyDeleteThis will sound strange, but I use a product called Bag Balm. They use it to moisturize cow udders and quilters use it because it is a gentle antiseptic when they poke the needle in their fingers. I have never found anything better.
ReplyDeleteOh yeah!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteIt SHIBONG QUISHA!!!!!!!!! Can't wait to see the giant banana rise out of the sky when blind zebras dance with their friends, the royal crickets!!!!! I have a pet napkin, its name is Pork Chop. I rock, oh yes i do!
-Shibong!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I love Palmers Lip Butter in Dark Chocolate & Peppermint.VintageSister.com make alot of flavors too.
ReplyDeleteBurt's Bees is always great- especially loving their pomegranate balm. My new favorite is Badger Cocoa Butter lip balm- so thick, lush, and yummy smelling too! Plus, the tubes are huge and fun to smear on!
ReplyDeleteAvon's Dew Kiss lip balm is my savior. It smells fresh without being overpowering, goes on smooth, and creates a very subtle shine. My boyfriend loves when I wear it because it makes my lips soft. My lips haven't been chapped since I discovered it, and you can practically buy it with the change found in between your couch cushions. The perfect lip balm in my opinion!
ReplyDeleteI only use one kind - Natural Ice. Cherry is my fav but I will use orginal if I have too. I love it so much that I'm thinking about buying a case of 48 off of Amazon...
ReplyDeleteMy faves are Keihl's Lip Balm #1, Carmex Strawberry (tube) and my recent find...neosporin Lip Health, Daily Hydration Therapy SPF 20
ReplyDeleteBurt's Bees wax lip balm. It's the only one I use.
ReplyDeleteKorres lip butter is pretty good. But my favorite one is Smith Rosebud Salve. It's amazing.
ReplyDeletehttp://sparklemidori.blogspot.com
carmex... I love it.
ReplyDeleteBody Shop's Hemp lip balm. Hands down. The flavor takes a little getting used to, but this stuff WORKS.
ReplyDeleteLately I've been using my 'Say Yes to Carrots' balm in mint. I think Target carries them, but I'm not sure who else. I love it!
ReplyDeletechapstick and lypsyl are nice, i like good old vaseline before bed, recently i came accross some lip balm at my local beauty supply outlet that has hemp oil in it.. weird yes.. but is better than anything ive ever tried
ReplyDeleteHmmm...after I post, I'll have to read through this list of suggestions!
ReplyDeleteI have a drawer full of assorted balms, as I'm always finding myself without one while away from the house...but some of my very favorites are:
Bobbi Brown lip balm (in the round tin)
Aveda Lip Saver
Kiehl's Lip Balm SPF 15 (nontinted)
Badger Sleep Balm at bedtime
Aquaphor is a miracle, multi-use product. I have used it a lot in my practice as a wound/skincare nurse. You can't go wrong with this stuff.
Any of the MAC ones!!! It's all I will use, you'll never go back to anything else
ReplyDeleteSoftlips! My favorite is the raspberry with green tea extract! The menthol is a nice touch :-) But if you want something to stop your lips from cracking or stinging, I also love Burt's Bees medicated lip balm with clove oil. That one's great for winter!
ReplyDeleteI love Carmex - the version that comes in the squeeze tube.
ReplyDeleteBurt's Bees never ever fails. It's so cooling and refreshing and does such a good job at keeping my lips moisturized.
ReplyDeleteI love and use Rosebud Strawberry Lip Balm and moisturizer. Absolutely yummy and feels great on my lips
ReplyDeleteSmith's Rosebud salve, original.
ReplyDeleteI've used it daily since 1982.
Usually, once my lipstick wears off (at about 8:45 am) I use nothing else all day. It's not tinted, it doesn't taste like a slurpee, and it doesn't tingle.
It is, however, entirely awesome.
carmex in the pot, not the tube! Most healing balm ever! Aquaphor is great too.
ReplyDeleteanother vote for burt's bees here; also love their lip shimmers, a balm and pop of color all in one...
ReplyDeleteI've been using Rosebud Strawberry Lip Balm And Moisturizer every night before bed! It's definitely thicker/more substantial.
ReplyDeleteThe only real drawback is that it comes in a tin, so you have to either stick your fingers in it or use a lip brush.
I agree with skromni - Fresh Sugar wins hands down! It's kind of a hefty price tag for a lip treatment ($22.50, I think), but it is THE only thing that keeps my lips from drying out in the winter and smells amazing. A little goes a long way, too. The most moisturizing balm ever. There's a formula that's clear and one with a little bit of a tint - Fresh Sugar Rose - that's super pretty.
ReplyDeleteShea butter and coconut oil are both great.
ReplyDeleteAs a fancier option, I love the Fresh one, also Julie Hewett's camellia balm in the tube. (I really prefer not to have to use my fingers or a brush.)
I use chapstick spf 30 and chapstick 100% naturals during the day (they're not very thick, though). I use carmex (in the squeeze tube) at night...it's thick and moisturizing. I have full lips and need to keep them protected! Good luck :)
ReplyDeleteI've used so many, but the one that keeps my lips moist is Sara Happ. She also makes a lip scrub. I use it in the colder weather. For summer, I'll use Suki lip balm. I also started using a lip balm by Chagrin Valley Soaps. Their all natural soaps are absolutely fabulous, too.
ReplyDeleteCatie
i love good ol' chapstick spearmint haha i'm so cheap
ReplyDeleteJack Black lip balm is the best hands down. It keeps my lips soft year round, has sunscreen and is only $7!
ReplyDeleteI just love Coola Lip Luxe. I also like Aromaleigh's lip balms.
ReplyDeleteChapstick, Blistex, those Yankee Candle things, C.O. Bigelow, Carmex, Rosebud salve, LipSmackers...they're all petroleum-based, they're all actually bad for your lips. Petroleum does not moisturize in any way; it simply forms a layer over your skin that stops it from breathing or absorbing any moisture. Petroleum is glorified toxic waste. If anyone claims different, I'll be happy to share pictures of what my allergic reaction looks like. ;)
The only thing I've ever ordered from Avon - Moisture Therapy, Intensive - has SPF 15, doesn't feel greasy going on but moisturies really well. It's cheap and supports the ladies who sell for Avon.
ReplyDeleteTry Piz Buin
ReplyDeleteTHE BEST LIP BALM EVER!!! I have alligator lips and I use Karite-Lips Shea Butter Vanilla Lip Balm. I find it at Whole Foods. You can also find it on this web site. WWW.modedevie.com The best part it's natural and made in the good old USA.
ReplyDeleteGive it a try it will be your HG forever. THE BEST!!!!!
If you want something with serious moisturization, aquaphor. its plain and not exactly pretty but i find that it sinks right in, unlike vaseline which sits on top and feels greasy to me.
ReplyDeleteIf you don't need something that moisturizing I really like softlips. the packaging is supercute, and it has spf.
I like Karite too, but I LOVE Buddha Nose Organic Lip Balm w/Lemongrass, Ginger & Lime. I also like Ganache For Lips in Chocolate, which contains only edible ingredients, including Scharffenberger Chocolate -- It is delightful! You can find both at www.beautyhabit.com.
ReplyDeleteThe very best thing I have tried is Bonnie Bell Lipsmakers. I've been using them for at least six years and my lips are super smooth. They are so cheap!!! And they come in multipacks so you can stash one in your dresser drawer, purse, care, jacketpocket, whatever. To be just a low-budget drugstore item, it is surprisingly good.
ReplyDeleteHey Scrangie... I am a new follower so I don't have an account yet.
ReplyDeleteI love Nivea lip balm (the Dark Blue One) best i have used for the price.
If you don't have a budget, try Elisabeth Arden Lip Fixer.
I can't live with out Carmex, the tube kind.
ReplyDeleteGreatest stuff on earth. It has cocoa butter AND menthol.
:)
Burt's Bees Pomegranate - natural and delicious!
ReplyDeleteForStrangeWomen on Etsy has "Absinthe Lips." Sure, it smells and tastes like liquorice, but it's thick and moisturizing. I'm addicted to it.
ReplyDeleteThis may sound strange, but my favorite lip balm is the super-cheap kind you can get at Party City. The flavors actually taste like something, instead of wax. I've found that personnaly, these are actually much better than the more expansive types. They taste like candy, like Skittles or Nerds. My favorite is the grape nerds. :)
ReplyDeleteSmith's Rosebud Lip Salve... I absolutely love this stuff! I have a review of this product on my blog under the Reviews tab. Check it out if you can.
ReplyDeletehttp://theglamorousgleam.blogspot.com
good ol' carmex
ReplyDeleteSomeone else already recommended it and I will second that. It is the Rocky Mountain Soap lipbalm - I use the apricot variety. I love it! I have tried a lot of lipbalms and this is the best ever for me.
ReplyDeleteBurt's Bees Honey lip balm. I must have one me at all times. Best this lip balm addict has ever found
ReplyDeleteI've always used Carmex. It works well for me.
ReplyDeleteDamn, I kinda feel I needn't comment.
ReplyDeleteI've seen a few others say it but Lanolin. I use the stuff I got when I was breastfeeding. It goes on, it *stays* on, and it looks like a dead sexy nude lip while you're wearing it. And I don't even like nude lips!
blistex- intensive lip cream, its so good.
ReplyDeleteahhhh im so surprised no one's mentioned Loreal HiP jelly balm. its thick but not sticky, the color is sheer/clear even though the pots show dark color, smells lightly vanillaish (really realllly subtle) and moisturizes SO well.
ReplyDeletei just finished one and bought a new one and i think its the first time ive actually kept track of a lip balm long enough to use it up and replace it.
I see someone else already posted it but EOS lipbalm!!!! you can get them on their website www.evolutionofsmooth.com OR I have also seen them at some Walgreens and Rite-Aids. THEY'RE AMAZING!!!!!!!! Real substantial and healing, but not medicinal. Also wicked cheap! ~$3, and shipping from their website isn't terribly pricey either.
ReplyDeleteI also am a Carmex devotee, for something also cheap and relatively easy to find.
There are two I have found (and I think I have tried most of the ones mentioned) that actually heal chapped lips. Chicken Poop and a hard to find one called Joshua Tree. They both have lavender in them which is extremely healing. The Joshua Tree tea tree balm is unlike anything else I have EVER tried. For a nightly balm, I use Badger lip balm (they have a whole line of really fantastic products).
ReplyDeleteI like nivea and aquafina. The aquafina lipbalm has a tingly feeling and comes in some scents. They also have almond and jojaba oil in them which is nice.
ReplyDeleteI adore Sephora brand Tricks of the Trade Complete Lip Balm. I think that's what it's called. It comes in a gunmetal shiny pot. It's smooth, silky, yet substantial. It stays on the lips well and also feels a little cool and refreshing. It has a nice light smell and taste - nothing specific but non-offensive for sure.
ReplyDeleteI also like the dark blue tube of Nivea. It's not quite as hydrating as the Sephora one but is close and I like a stick form better, ideally.
Aveeno Essential Lip Conditioner with SPF15. Cheap and good.
ReplyDeleteScrangie,
ReplyDeleteI am the self proclaimed queen of lip balm, I apply it 100 times a day.
The winner... Jack Black. Don't even bother looking around... just get it.
i absolutely love aquafina chapstick.. the regular ole' chapstick.. and softlips. my lips prefer ANY number of those ones on different days, so i like to keep all 3 handy.
ReplyDeleteIf you like a stick: CO Bigelow Lemon Lip Balm.
ReplyDeleteTastes yummy (like those sweet frozen lemonades), doesn't feel sticky or greasy, and keeps your lips soft and moist for SOOOOO long.
If you like a balm in a tin: Rosebud Salve Strawberry. Can feel a little heavy but it is so amazing. GREAT for winter!
My lips are extremely sensitive and they break out in this weird gritty rash when I use the wrong product (haven't pinned it down yet but I think Lanolin/Paraffin is the culprit). Both of the above balms do NOT irritate my lips and they're FAB!
I use this stuff from japan, from a brand called BC laboratories. it comes in different fruit scents. I use the orange. Lucky for me there are lots of chinatowns nearby that stock it, so I don't have a problem getting it. I've used it for YEARS and have never turned my back! there's also happy bath day products! they're both really good :)
ReplyDeleteEOS (Evolution of Smooth). You can get it at Rite Aid. :)
ReplyDeleteNivea Repair & Protect. It helped my lips go from super dry to moisturised. Majolica Majorca's Honey Pump Lip Essence makes your lips more moisturised each time you use it.
ReplyDeleteBurt's Bees!
ReplyDeleteLush - Lipservice.
ReplyDeleteVery nice, without any particular taste/colour/smell, works wonders.
Check out Chagrin Valley Soap and Craft.. they have the best lipbalms I've ever tried (and I've tried lots ;))
ReplyDeletePlus, they're all natural.
carmex!!! (the squeezable tube one)
ReplyDeleteLucas Paw Paw ointment. I think this is an Aussie thing though.
ReplyDeleteI love Carmex or Blistex (but I don't know if you can get that in the USA? lol :P) and I also like vaseline but that tends to go everywhere on me XD
ReplyDeleteBlistex DCT is the best. It is thick, but not gross.
ReplyDeleteCHAPSTICK!! saves my lips for years now. I hate them sticky and chapstick is perfect. And lipsticks stays really well on it.
ReplyDeletethe lip slip by sara happ -if you want to splurge
ReplyDeleteOriginal lypsyl from the drugstore is also pretty good.
I love EOS organic lip balm by evolutionofsmooth.com
ReplyDeleteMy favorite is sweet mint...and they have the cutest packaging for it!
Um. I don't have time (at work) to look through all 150 comments & see if anyone else has already recommended this, but I am in love right now with Nivea lip balm - the kind in the darker blue tube, they also have one in a light blue that is good, and one in a yellow that has SPF but it is a little more waxy & I don't like it as well. I think they also have one with tint to it but I haven't tried that one.
ReplyDeleteHope you find one you like! =)
Blistex Lip Renewal is really working for me now - plus it has SPF 15! Also Labello / Nivea balms are good too.
ReplyDeleteand if you're looking for a balm that acts like a lip gloss, I love Zoya Hot Lips balm & C.O. Bigelow Mentha Lip Shines :-)
burts bees beeswax lipbalm is totally awesome (:
ReplyDeleteit gives a fresh minty feeling and is really moisturizing!
Burts Bees! :)
ReplyDeleteI've seen a color-changing Dior balm that has great reviews as well - they have it at Sephora. It's a bit pricey but it's like a low-key lipstick and lipbalm in one.
I love, love, love Jack Black! plus it has spf25...comes in two flavors at sephora. Alba and badger also make really good, cheap, natrual sticks. And Fresh sugar for a splurge-it ain't cheap but it's awesome.
ReplyDeleteI just can't read all the comments to se if you have already gotten this recommendation, but if not: Kanebo Sensai Total Lip Treatment! Kong of Lip Balms, when nothing else works. Expensive, but very very lasting. I had my bottle for more than a year.

I use pure unrefined shea butter from Coastal Scents, it comes in a big hard squishy block, but i just moosh some up and squeeze it into a little jar so i can take it places with me. It is super super rich and thick, at first it smells a little ew, but then you get used to it and it actually tastes like white chocolate. It is really really moisturising.
ReplyDeleteCount me in as another who loves Crazy Rumors. Also, this is more of a gloss than a balm, but C.O. Bigelow's cinnamint lip mentha moisturizes fantastically.
ReplyDeleteHey Scrangie,
ReplyDeleteLove anything by Aromaleigh, but if you need something yesterday, Alba makes yummy lip balm (and gloss) in tropical flavors that can be found at CVS for a song.
(These are not just scents- Passionfruit Nectar, Coconut Cream and Pineapple Quench- they really taste good, too!)
Recently tried Qtica's Intense Balm, and would highly recommend it for heavy-duty bedtime repair, since the lanolin scent can overwhelm. Once you get past it, though, you will wake up to brand new, super-soft lips!
Finally, I have to 2nd all the Jack Black mentions, and suggest trying the "Acai Berry & Vanilla" scent, if you can get your hands on it. My husband and I fight over it regularly! <3
HTH! =D
I LOVE the Yankee Candle lip balm. Have it in Vanilla Lime & plan to get the buttercream & black cherr as well.
ReplyDeleteMy other favorite is the C.O.Bigelow My Favorite Lip Balm but this one is best in winter when I go through it faster because it does go bad.
Chapstick Overnight Treatment- total HG. I teach, so I'm talking for 4 straight hours a day and my lips constantly get dry. After 3 days of using everything I owned (Rosebud salve, Aquaphor, DCT, Carmex, etc.) with no luck, I picked up the Overnight stuff. The next day, all flakies were gone, my lips were super smooth, and if I wear it during classes, no more dry lips at all.
ReplyDeleteooh, ooh. lipbalm is my favourite subject. :) in no particular order..
ReplyDeleteThe Body Shop cocoa butter lip care stick (not the pot)
Fresh sugar ( the rose is such a nice, mild colour )
Dr. Hauschka stick
BeesWork, i like the vanilla mint.. has to be ordered online
Weleda everon
on my lemming list is Dermalogia lip renewal, i keep hearing great stuff about it :)
I just got Neosporin Lip Health and love it! I also recommend Burt's Bees.
ReplyDeleteJo Malone's lip treatment is fabulous - coconut scented, thick enough but not goopy. and my lips are soooo soft.
ReplyDeleteMy #1 is Fresh Sugar. It has a vanilla lemon scent which almost makes you want to lick it off. I get it at Sephora. They also have a Rose' version which is tinted but I think it smells a little less wonderful. Fresh Sugar is so awesome my 85 year old mother swiped mine!!! My #2 is Soft Lips Vanilla which has SPF and is also my daughter's fave.
ReplyDeleteShell Lipbalm (www.organicisland.be or in your case www.organicisland.com.au) :D
ReplyDeleteI already commented once, but I have to support the Jack Black as well as Lush Cosmetics lip balms. Also, I'm not sure if anyone else mentioned it but the Body Bakery lip balms (www.thebodybakery.com) are nice and come in a variety of flavors. Not really thick, but certainly moisturizing. Another one like that is John Master's Organics Lip Calm which is one of the few products that I have a backup of!
ReplyDeleteI used to use Carmex but once I found out it has mineral oil in it I dont use it anymore.
ReplyDeleteAll I use now is the Aveda lipsaver. Best. Lip. Balm. EVER!
philosophy ooey gooey s'mores is all i will use.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely Nivea!! go get some NOW. seriously.
ReplyDeleteMedicated Chapstick in gel form was my fave but they don't seem to make it any more. :-(
ReplyDeleteBlistex medicated in a blue jar is great!
I like the medicated ones as they act as a lip plumper due to the menthol camphor ingredients.
it feels lke ive tried every lipbalm available! LOL
ReplyDeletethe ones i currently really like are good ol bonne bell, yes to carrots lip balm in berry, korres lip pots, dr bronners lip balms and the soft lips organic- no menthol! i find the menthol really dries out my lips. if you are acne prone avoid ones with lanolin, like burts bees. those broke me out lke no other around the lip- super painful!
oh! badger balm is awesome too :)
ReplyDeleteRosebud Salve or Aquaphor
ReplyDeleteMy long time favorite will be the original receipe of The Thymes balm (non-garden one).
ReplyDeleteI love:
Yes to Carrots Berry Balm
Aveda Lip Saver and Renewing Lip Treatment
Smashbox Smashing Treatment in the Nude color

And I do definitely support Moody Bee, and I'm surprised that someone else mentioned them!
Cherry Carmex - I prefer the one in the tube to the one in the pot , but, hey , whatever you like :) The smell is yummy and it leaves a tiny tingle on my lips which i like.
ReplyDeleteSoftlips - Only tried the vanilla one but its so smooth and softening and the smell is soooo yummy ;)Also has the nice slight tingle too.
I also use vaseline when my lips get really dry, but I know alot of people dont lke vaseline coz its petroleum jelly.
Oh well.
:)
I recently bought The Body Shop Cocoa Butter Lip Care Stick after reading a good review of it.
ReplyDeleteI agree it's really moisturising and softens too. It lasts quite a while, but I just love reapplying it because it's so smooth! It is made with 90% natural ingredients like sweet almond oil, beeswax and cocoa butter (obviously!)
The cocoa butter is made using cocoa beans from Ghana so it supports cocoa farmers in the community earn a decent wage for their crops. An added feel good bonus!
