Dude, wtf?!

EDIT: It looks like they've made it invite only... But I was able to take screen shots and get a .pdf of it before they made it private! :) Thanks for your support and kind words everyone! I really appreciate it. You guys are the best!!

This jerk stole a bunch of my pictures and then cropped out my watermark!!

Not only did they take them and alter them without my permission, it clearly violates my creative commons license terms.

This makes me absolutely sick.

There sure are a lot of assholes in the world.

Ugh.

  1. I sent a comment to the blog but I'm not sure if they'll put it up. Sorry to hear that Scrangie! Sooner or later they'll take them off. If they don't, nuke 'em!

  2. I sent a comment as well although I'm sure they won't put it up. Maybe they'll get the hint though and take your pics down!
    Asshole is right!!

  3. Anonymous, thank you so much. I am shocked by the sheer douchy-ness of people!!

Ohgracie, I left one too telling them I'm pissed and I want my pictures taken down. Doubt they'll let it get through! Thank you for trying :)

  4. Hah - good luck getting any of us to buy anything from them! Talk about biting the hand that feeds them (kinda literally!)...

    ReplyDelete
  5. i left a comment too! i told her it would be purrrfect if she didn't steal other people's pictures! what a piece of work! i can't stand people sometimes!

    ReplyDelete
  6. That's crazy weird. How did you find these stealers? What's the point of establishing a blog, if you end up stealing everyone elses ideas and pics?

    ReplyDelete
  7. i left a comment as well. im sure our comments wont make it, but at least the site owner knows that we think shes a jerkwad. too bad that people dont realize that we all talk to each other and do have a sense of community! not that the prices on the site are enticing, but ill never buy from there.

  8. This is really an absurd! Is it possibile to do anything about it? I mean in legal terms? I don't know your country's law , but I am sure that there will be some way to penalize this guy, he is using not only your pics but your nails, a part of your body to advertise his business. Am I rigth?

  9. What a jerk!
    Did you report him?
You can report him to whoever is hosting him and get it yanked down.

    ReplyDelete
  10. i too put a comment on this idiot's profile, i doubt that she'll post it, but it was worth a try. when you cant even post pics of your product(s), why would one be inclined to buy from you?

    ReplyDelete
  11. I left a comment as well. How can they expect to do business this way? The prices aren't even that great...

I have a hunch that the site owner stole some of the other pictures as well, because the ones with the hand holding the bottle look familiar. Some pictures also have "Sparkling Nails" on them, which I believe is an eBay seller?

    ReplyDelete
  12. SW--it doesn't seem like a "real" blog; just a way to promote someone's online store.

Scrangie, that's REAL FUCKED UP! (excuse my French) I, too, left a comment, but noting that the comments need blog owner approval I doubt it'll be posted.

    ReplyDelete
  13. what a spazz you are! they are only fuckin' pictures! there is more important shit to worry about in this world these days other than someone using your photos. Why dont you stop crying in your nail polish bottles and lighten the fuck up!

    ReplyDelete
  14. Wow, I can't believe people would do such a thing..Who's gonna buy from them anyways?

    ReplyDelete
  15. Anon--get the fuck over YOURSELF. Obviously you don't do this type of shit. What if your own work was used for someone else's financial benefit? They might only seem like "pictures" to you, but to people like us who actually take the time to photograph and edit them, it's really fucked up when others try to use our own hard work for their own means. So sit your fuck ass down and SHUT THE FUCK UP!

    ReplyDelete
  16. lol look at that mark-up! They probably purchase from H2T or TD then resell!

    ReplyDelete
  17. I left a comment, too, which will also not get posted, since there are -0- comments posted at this point AND judging from that suspicious Anonymous F-bomb comment(reply #13, I think it is) on your site.

This "blogger" is either a)totally ignorant, or b) lazy. I choose b). She/he will not be getting my money, that's for damned sure. Just because the internet is like the wild west doesn't mean people shouldn't have standards. Geez.

I've been lurking on your site for awhile, and truly love what you do. While I may never wear blue or glitter polish, I am in awe of your technique and enjoy reading your blog every single day. It always makes me smile.

    Thanks so much!

  18. You can flag them for piracy/copyright issues! There's a link at the top of the page (if you're logged in). Let's have a flag party!

  19. Nixxy, it is kinda creepy to see my disembodied fingers selling things! lol

    Jaxapella, LOL thank you! :D

SW, a lovely person messaged me to notify me!

Haloinrverse, I know, it sucks :( I just want to be friends with everybody so it really hurts me when stuff like this happens!! :(

Alice, there is, the DMCA :)

Phyrra, not yet! Maybe they'll take the pictures down soon!

Augusta, exactly! How do people know you even *have* the product if you can't take your own pictures? You could just send them a box of belly button lint!

Sprinkles, I see a hand I recognize as well as images stolen from lovely eBay seller Sparkling Nails :(

The Asian Girl, LOL! Thank you so much :) You rock.

Nail Fanatic, it would amaze me if people actually bought from them. The prices are absurd!

Anonymous,. haha thank you! You are a real sweetheart. <3

Anonymous, aren't the prices INSANE? I bet that's what they're doing, too!

Maggie, awwwwwwwweeee! Thank you so much. That means a lot to me. It's so nice to know I'm not alone :)

    ReplyDelete
  20. That's so wrong. I sent a comment as well. Do you have any recourse?

    ReplyDelete
  21. Reiko, oooh interesting! Thanks! Beautiful name, by the way :)

    ReplyDelete
  22. MrsKiwiYeti, I think I do but I don't know if it's worth any more time or energy, haha. >.<

    ReplyDelete
  23. Don't care what anybody says, this is messed up! Left a comment, but you know where that'll go since they still have 0 comments. C'mon everybody...bombard 'em! It's the least we can do...and karma's a bitch...hahaha!

    ReplyDelete
  24. That's gross! I'll always come here to see the FULL pictures!

Hahaha did anyone notice at the bottom that their blog posts when another blog links to the post? Check out what it says at the moment:

    Links to this post

    Stargirl's World: Theif Alert
    Scrangie: Dude, wtf?!

With links to both of the posts :D So at least it can be put "out there" that way!

    ReplyDelete
  25. Jerks! I can't find another word for that.they doing nothing but bad publicity to themselves .
I searched there ans i saw that they stole even ebay stores pic's.... unbelievable.
And to the big mouth anonymous-shut up!

    ReplyDelete
  26. The prices are actually in Singapore dollars so they aren't that bad..

The reason why I think a lot of these blog stores don't take their own pics is because:
    (a) They are taking pre-orders, which means they do not have the stocks on hand OR
    (b) They are not prepared to open new bottles for swatching.

Since OPIs usually retail for abt USD16 here, these online sellers will purchase in bulk from the e-tailers and resell them for $11-$13sg. this way, they will earn a margin of $2-$3 per bottle.

But all this still doesn't justify stealing other people's pics.

  27. I did try to flag the blog but it was showing links for you personally to report it. It wasn't taking me to a screen where I could flag it as a third party.

Perhaps I will just sit here and call down justice on picture stealers.

    ReplyDelete
  28. how about using a different watermark, like those gradient ones? and put it right OVER the nail colour portion, we dont' mind seeing the watermark....

    ReplyDelete
  29. I tried to flag them, but I'm not sure that it will do any good since it only seemed like they would let the content owner flag the page. Also, I agree with Fudge's suggestion. A translucent watermark of some kind wouldn't bother me at all.

    ReplyDelete
  30. i wouldn't be bothered with a watermark right over the nail either..

i also wouldn't mind "ANON" writers who have such "strong comments about scrangie "comaplining" to actually write out their name. if there are more important things to worry about, i wonder why they waste time to inform us...

anyway - hope you report them and SHUT EM UP lol :)

    ReplyDelete
  31. That is so sick. How difficult is it to just link back and NOT steal pictures.

I'm going to email them and give them a piece of my mind. Perhaps w/ all the 'spam' they're getting, it might not be worth it to steal pictures in the future!

    ReplyDelete
  32. ohhh i'm ashamed of how some singaporeans act. payment by OCBC? POSB? pickup at holland village? that's a singaporean blogshop
    =(
is there anything we can do to make them take it down?

    ReplyDelete
  33. Poor Scrangie! They shouldn't mess with such a sweetheart. If it makes you feel any better, I was dreaming about you this morning. Haha! You were really sweet! (Yes, I've been looking up too many swatches lately...)

I'm gonna hit the report flag as well! The more the better. :)

    ReplyDelete
  34. What an a*s! Wht can't she take her own pics? I commented on her blog, but she's not going to publish it.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Aww, I'm sorry to see that. It's sad, you go to all this effort to show us pics. and then some douche uses them for their own benefit. Thanks for taking the time to swatch for us, I love your blog!

  36. That really gripes my ass. So, you will have to totally obliterate your nails so no one can steal them. That's just fucking perfect. I hope these people and future thief's......... break a nail! (I kill me). Your ten little, manicured beauties deserve to be seen; on your web site.

I won't hit that site or comment. Screw them.

Plus, it really sucks when when anything you own is stolen. Digression: when I was a kid, my bike was locked up at the neighborhood pool, some POS stole my seat! ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME!!!?

  37. That's ridiculous. And she's making a profit on it, at that. I just don't understand why peoople do that. I saw it on mua last night so I sent her a not so nice e-mail on her blog. Not like it'll stop her, but I felt it was necessary :/

    ReplyDelete
  38. Scrangie = I left a comment too. She could have at least asked.

    Hugs - Marsha Smith

    ReplyDelete
  39. Commented. This is despicable. If they absolutely must use someone else's photo to describe their products, they could just link to your posts instead of stealing. Asswad!

    ReplyDelete
  40. Asshole doesn't begin to describe this...it is plagiarism. When I teach, I always tell my students it is okay to use pictures from the internet, but always cite your source (as seen on Scrangie, at http....etc.). It is not always possible to get someone's permission, but a citation is the proper way to cover your bases.

As for the anonymous person who told you to get over yourself, you seriously don't know what you are talking about. No one did anything to steal your work without permission. Scrangie works hard to give us pictures, and is passionate about her work. Your comment is just a load of crap that shows you are an un-feeling ass yourself. Take your dark little soul someplace else, you troll.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Scum! Scum I tell you.

Anywho, that person is in the complete wrong. They should have at least given you credit or ask your permission.

    ReplyDelete
  42. So sorry this happened to you, the sheer gall of people to purposely steal and edit out the watermark to pass them as their own. Ridiculous. Hope that it gets taken down very soon.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I left a comment too. What a douche!

    ReplyDelete
  44. This infuriates me!! Us bloggers spend so much time taking photos and watermarking only for this to happen. Ugh!!!

    ReplyDelete
  45. I'm sorry to see this Scrangie, I left a comment as well. I'm sure they won't be posted though, but it's worth a shot.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Eww that's so wrong!! I hope that person takes them down asap. Sorry Scrangie :(

    ReplyDelete
  47. That site screams "SCAM" to me.
Sort of like the Nigerian bank deals.

    ReplyDelete
  48. That sucks, I also left a comment.

    ReplyDelete
  49. LOL, Nigerian Bank deals. I totally agree. I think it's disgraceful to steal someone's hard work.

Scrangie, you do an amazing job here and I check your blog every single day. Of course, you're making me poorer, but my nails look absolutely amazing!

    ReplyDelete
  50. Omg, Scrangie, I'm so sorry! That's awful! You're right, it does look pitiful ... does she think we won't recognize your beautiful nails?? ;) Besides the fact that you can still see the watermark and can tell that she stole them ... ugh.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Let me just add to the general love of Scrangie and her fab nails and the disgust at this other website. I never really thought about my nails until I read your interview over at ALU and then got hooked on your blog. Thank you so much for all the hard work you do because it's really inspirational.

    Cheers,
    Pamela

  52. Now i have left a comment to the post to. I really hope this person dont have any customers and that she/he will listen to all the comments that have been written. People are so rude now a days. I flagged the blog to, dont know if its for any help though :(

    ReplyDelete
  53. i sent the dick a comment saying how pathetic he was for not giving you cred. on your hard work but i doubt he/she will post it. what an absolute asshole. how do you spot this crap. this is time number 2 .. no?

    ReplyDelete
  54. re:what a spazz you are! they are only fuckin' pictures! there is more important shit to worry about in this world these days other than someone using your photos. Why dont you stop crying in your nail polish bottles and lighten the fuck up! "anonymous"

hey buddy why dont you go F*ck yourself, if your not concerned about it then why eve post a comment on her blog. It's her concern not your, and theft is theft no matter what way you look at it, maybe if the douche bag had given credit it would be different. Go fly a kite. If you have nothing polite to say the blog maker then don't say shit...you're rude.

    ReplyDelete
  55. pardon all my "french" Scrangie :( that irritated me! LOL

    ReplyDelete
  56. Dude. That's just wrong. And to even leave some of your watermark left - is not even trying! Sorry this happened to you. :(

    ReplyDelete
  57. I have been a loyal follower of your blog for many months now and I appreciate all of your hard work and creativity. You have some of the best writing and nails I have EVER seen and I only wish I could create a blog as awesome as yours You do not deserve to have your work stolen! And the way it was done was just downright pathetic, too. I hope there are consequences.

    ReplyDelete
  58. I just looked at their blog and it's for "invited" readers only

    ReplyDelete
  59. I can't visit the blog for some reason but reading what you wrote is enough. That's so rude! I hope it gets to everyone that reads that blog that they're YOUR pictures that they've mixed with and used against your will.

    ReplyDelete
  60. >:(

That's the uncoolest of acts. I hope they get whats coming to them.

    ReplyDelete
  61. I don't think it is a bonafide seller. She is trying to sell things on a blog, perhaps because she doesn't have verifiable information to get onto EBay or Yahoo Shopping. She only accepts bank transfers as payment, not paypal or credit cards. This is a scammer, probably an offshore account that takes your money and sends you nothing. Probably doesn't make you feel any better, but it seems she had to close her site to invitees only. I could get in by doing a Google search for purrfect pawlish, and then clicking on a cache version. Another "funny" part of this is that there is already a business using that name also, a pet groomer. That person has stolen everything from everybody.

    ReplyDelete
  62. They made the site invite only. What an a-hole!

    ReplyDelete
  63. LOL, how much do I love that Scammer Mc. Scumface had to close her blog to stop the outpouring of scathing criticism from the legion of Scrangie fans! Love it!

    ReplyDelete
  64. I'm too late to do my bit as it's still showing as Invite Only but, honestly.... shakes head and rolls eyes. Such a mean thing to do.

And I wonder if the Anon that left you that foul message is responsible for the site. Bang out of order.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Bastards!

Scott, you think having your bike seat stolen at the public pool is bad; my sister had her underwear stolen at the public pool. She had cash and a pair of brand new Nike sandals, but the only thing taken was her granny panties!

    ReplyDelete
  66. What a bitch! I'll never buy from her. On the other hand, you have to admit that your pictures are only worth stealing (NOT that it's right) because you do such a fabulous job swatching them for us fanatics. So thank you Scrangie!

    ReplyDelete
  67. That really sucks! I wasn't able to see as the coward made it impossible to view the blog without "permission". Talk about infringement! You should demad $ as a hand model! It would probably be your right...

    ReplyDelete
  68. umm.. am i the only one who cant see these pictures? i clicked on the link and the page says " Blogger: Permission denied. It doesn't look like you have been invited to read this blog. If you think this is a mistake, you might want to contact the blog author and request an invitation." wth? someone show me this loser's pictures please! =[

    i'm sorry scrangie!!!

    ReplyDelete
  69. If the person took the time to crop your watermark out of the picture, they obviously knew it was wrong.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Your pictures are famous and unmistakable. How anyone would think they could get away with stealing them is beyond me!

    ReplyDelete
  71. Hi gal, i've tried viewing her blog and she closed it to invited people to view only..

i think she's already knows how strongly people feel about her blog. i went once before to see before she closed the blog and it was crazy! i made a comment on a forum saying stealing photos but still have evidence of you signature on the photos! it was ridiculous!!!

I love your blog and enjoy looking at the photos. I've always been showing everyone you photos! this lady is nuts to steal your creations!

    -Michelle

    ReplyDelete
  72. scandalous!! dude made his blog as invite only so now u cant see if he stole pics...

    ReplyDelete
  73. What's really funny is that she also seems to sell through this site:

    http://www.springfleur.com/products/collections_all.asp

And you can see that she's stolen sparkling*nails photos for that too!

    ReplyDelete
  74. I looked at the springfleur website. How can you tell if it is the same person? For a laugh, under their terms and conditions, they say under "Copyrights" "Copyrights
Unless otherwise stated, all materials, including design, text, graphics, icons, photographs and other materials that appear on the website (collectively, the 'Collection) are copyrights, trademarks, and/or intellectual properties owned, controlled or licensed by Springfleur Fashion Pte. Ltd. Any unauthorized copying, reproduction, modification, distribution or other use of these materials is strictly prohibited." They say they are acting under Singapore Law. Does that mean you can complain to the Singapore Attorney General (if there is one).

    ReplyDelete
  75. http://www.ipos.gov.sg/leftNav/cop/Infringement+and+Enforcement.htm regarding Singapore copyright infringement, including removing rights management information (which was done). There seems to be a penalty of $20,000.

    ReplyDelete
  76. She has the same name and telephone number as on the previous site, you can still see the details through google cache.

I believe something only qualifies for copyright protection in Singapore if it was first published in Singapore or if it was published by a Singapore citizen/perm resident. But I'm pretty sure Singapore signed the TRIPS agreement, so that's not an issue. And it definitely qualifies as infringement, particularly since it was for commercial use.

As for the RMI, they're not too specific about what constitutes RMI, but they do mention digital watermarks, and I suppose that certainly describes what was on Scrangie's photos!
