This collection really surprised me. In the bottles the colors all looked like deep, rich creams but on the nail they pop! They're vibrant, saturated and somewhat translucent. I think it's what you would call a "jelly" finish. Really quite a nice effect, especially in these colors. Definitely unexpected.
They're all very feminine and glamorous, albeit a little "safe". Still, I think these will be perfect for fall and will hold up well against fall fashions.
Big Spender. This is surprisingly bright for a fall polish, but I'm not complaining. It's kind of similar to my favorite Essie Laced-Up Bootie, which was an old Ulta exclusive. Laced-Up Bootie is more muted and purple, but Big Spender is in the same vein.
Forever Young. WHOA! I didn't expect this. In the bottle it looks like a muted red cream, but on the nails it's a super-vibrant bright red with a translucent finish. You can sort of see my nail through it if you look hard enough. Reminds me somewhat of Essie Jelly Apple.
Lacy Not Racy. This looks awesome. I'm not sure how to describe this color- I can't figure out if it's cool or warm. All I know is it looks different on the nail than how it looks in the bottle, and it has that really cool almost see-through finish.
No Boundaries. Isn't this pretty? It's purple-plum, exactly the color I was hoping it would be. It's so smooth and applies effortlessly.
Swept Off My Feet. This is a strange color. It's not ugly, just strange. Like a dusty rose or mauve sort of color, very soft.
Tomboy No More. LOOK AT THIS! Holy smokes, this color is sexy! I don't even wear reds and I love this. It has the same awesome translucent jelly finish, but the color is so jewel-like, like a ruby or garnet or something. I'm not too good with my gemstones, but I know I could picture this on a queen's crown.
Overall, I'm happy with these. They all applied wonderfully, the polish was so smooth and just the right consistency. While they are very 'safe' colors, I can still see myself wearing them. The colors aren't terribly unique, but the finish is- I love the jelly texture of these, it's something I don't see very often. I thought they would be a lot darker, but they're really not very dark at all!

From seeing the bottle pic of Swept Off My Feet I was expecting it to be a creme version of one of my fav (and current NOTD) Essies:Antique Rose. But it is just...strange. Hmm...I feel like it's a very conservative mom-friendly color (as in...my mom will probably pick that one up this fall).
ReplyDeleteThe collection is definitely interesting, I dunno which ones I must have yet. I'll have to go to Ulta and see them!
Thanks for posting so quickly. I didn't think I'd get to see these colors until mid-July.
Hahaha to correct myself: Not that I didn't think you'd get around to posting them until mid-July, but I didn't think any of the bloggers would have them until then or later.
ReplyDeleteAs always, you are very quick to post swatches (which I really appreciate)!
When I first saw the essie bottles i thought it look kinda.. well blaah.
ReplyDeleteBut seeing your swatches .. wow!
Grace, exactly, Mom-friendly! LOL I need to start using that in my reviews XD And thanks! I love providing you guys with swatches :D These will be out in a little less than a month.
ReplyDeleteAngela, they really are not what I was expecting at ALL! I'm kinda happy about that, actually :)
*Omg, drools all over everything.* I think these are unique. I need them.
ReplyDeleteStephanie, I *know* they'll look awesome on you! I was totally surprised by these!
ReplyDeleteDamn you Scrangie!!! From your bottle pics yesterday i thought i only wanted 1, but now i feel like i *need* 4 or even 5 of those!! ;^)
ReplyDeletepsychoswim @ mua
WOW, I think they all look gorgeous:)
ReplyDeleteHey Psychoswim!! I'm really surprised how different these looked on my nails in sunlight than they did last night in the dark just looking at the bottles. Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteSanna, I think so too :D
I'd be curious to see comparisons to other brands
ReplyDeleteDiann_co, hmmm... Other brands fall collections or existing colors? I'm sure there are some color matches floating around in my stash...
ReplyDeleteAny, existng or new..they are pretty but I just think not anything we all don't already have
ReplyDeleteDiann_co, I'll look around and see if I can find some good matches :D
ReplyDeleteWhoa, No Boundaries!!! Thought it sort of reminds of a Revlon color...Plummy I think it is called but No Boundaries looks a little brighter.
ReplyDeleteHow did you get these? I've been waiting for Essie to send me email saying they have them.
I'm a known Essie basher, but these colors look really good. Pleasant surprise.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait for fall to start so I can wear my beloved vampies and don't feel like a prematurely aged emo!
You don't wear red???
I'm not bowled over by the colours, but you've made me very, very curious with your description of the finish. :)
ReplyDeleteoohh no boundaries looks even better than i expected!! and swept off my feet is really really weird, but also really really cool. I think i have to get both.
ReplyDeleteTink, Essie generously let me have a preview of these. I'm very grateful!
ReplyDeleteMasa_inn, prematurely aged emo!!! LMAO!! That's awesome! Odd as it sounds, I almost never wear red. I have a lot of reds that I like, but I haven't worn one in ages! Strange for someone obsessed with polish, isn't it?
Shryh, they'll be available very soon so you should take a look at them in person if you get a chance. I love the see-through finish, very cool :D
Tiger, No Boundaries is gooooorgeous! And I agree about Swept Off My Feet. :D
Oh, I W-A-N-T T-H-E-M A-L-L !!!
ReplyDelete*faints*
Ana
Ana, lol! Oh no, she fainted!
ReplyDeleteWow that was really nice of them. I know they are known for being generous.
ReplyDeleteTink, it was extremely kind and generous, I am really, truly impressed! And very thankful. :D
ReplyDeleteWell, your pictures gave me serious cravings for the whole collection and I never, ever wanted an Essie-polish before. Ever. We'll see if this Essie-fever will pass or if it ends up with me buying them all...
ReplyDeleteSminkan, I know how that is! I never used to like Essie at all, but recently I fell in love with them. The formula is really nice, I'm not sure what I used to hate about it!
ReplyDeleteAbout time I posted since I've been oggling ur pics for foreva! Thank you, btw... this blog is so helpful & i appreciate your candor. The pics are uber helpful & ur nails are just gorgeous! Ima lovin' some of the fall essies... i'm sure it's been asked but when r these being released? Also, please tell me they're not exclusives!?! Thanks, Scrange-baby! :oD
ReplyDeleteHey Yaz! I'm blushing! Thanks so much for the compliment- that made my day! :D
ReplyDeleteAs for the Essies, the official release date is August 1st, and these colors will be available at all retailers. So, no exclusives! Yay! :D
Great swatches Scrangie! You always have the hook up girl and swatches of course! I know how much hard work goes into your swatches and you do an awesome job! :) I can't wait for this collection. I'm uber excited!
ReplyDeleteSteph, thanks so much!! :D
ReplyDeleteForever Young must be crowned as my fave of the bunch! Thanks for showing us these gorgeous shades!
ReplyDeleteRocketqueen, you're very welcome :D
ReplyDeleteI think I will pick up the Nordstrom Essie fall 2008 mini set.
ReplyDeleteWhat do you think scrangie? Do I need these colors for fall? is it worth the $15? How small are the mini bottles? I think it has the 4 best colors.
Hey Beautylover :)
ReplyDeleteThe minis are really small. I would wait until they're released at head2toebeauty.com and order from there. You can pick up the entire collection full-sized for about the price of the mini set :) I think these colors are great for fall, but not as exciting as some of the other fall releases. Still, they're gorgeous! :D
