Chanel Fall 2008 - Gold Fiction and Kaleidoscope Swatches
Gold Fiction. As you can see, it's a light metallic yellow gold. Is it nice? Definitely. Is it worth $30? Hell no. There are other gold polishes out there. This isn't so unique that you'll never be able to find a match. Sure, it's really beautiful, but I don't think the price is justified, even if it is more expensive to make. It also comes in an opaque bottle so you can't see how much is left.
Kaleidoscope. This, on the other hand, is totally worth the price tag. It's $10 cheaper than Gold Fiction and ten times cooler. It's a silvery metallic greenish sort of color with this mesmerizing microscopic shimmer running through it. Totally stunning. Weird color to be named "Kaleidoscope" but, hey, it's cool, right?
I ordered Kaleidoscope the other day so I am really looking forward to getting it. It will be my first silver. I hope it shows the old gold look in some light.
ReplyDeleteKeep up the fabulous job!
I'm with you on the Gold Fiction, nice but not worth the $30. It's a little too yellow for my taste too. I have seen Kaleidoscope in person and am bitterly disappointed. It is not what one would expect of a polish described as a green gold. It is more of a warm pewter color, shimmery, but remarkably monochromatic for something named Kaleidoscope. Also seems very similar to Essie Steeling the Scene and Nars Transformer, so not all that unique.
ReplyDeleteTink, thanks! :D Kaleidoscope is really pretty, I think you'll love it!
ReplyDeleteRoberta S., there are definitely nicer golds- my favorite might be Lippmann Nefertiti or OPI I Get A Kick Out Of Gold. I haven't seen Nars Transformer, but if it's silver I might have to hunt that one down!
Kaleidoscope looks awesome on you! The gold is relly pretty but I wouldn't pay $30 for it! No way! I want "OPI I get a kick out of gold" so bad! I hate the word "Discontinued" gaah! :/
ReplyDeleteKaleidoscope is extraordinary! Your nails are so pretty:)
ReplyDeleteGold Fiction is cute, but nothing out of the ordinary. Kaleidoscope is hot though, how similar is it to color club what a drag? As usual your swatches are amazing!
ReplyDeleteI think it's stupid to call it Kaleidoscope too. Nothing Kaleidoscopey about it. Still, awesome color though.
ReplyDeleteFrom what I've seen so far, Kaleidoscope very closely resembles green gold alloy used by jewellers in which the green (a mix of gold and silver) is actually very subtle. Gold Fiction, on the other hand, is meant to simulate the finish of 24K gold, so both polishes score major points for verimilitude, which really impressed me. I like nail polish, I like precious metals... this combination is lethal for my wallet! I wish they'd make a black gold (warning, it looks bronzey!) and rose gold polish too.
ReplyDeleteveriSIMilitude, I meant. God, my typing skills are ace.
ReplyDeleteSanna, thanks! Me too, that's the word I dread hearing :( But, there are a lot of them on eBay, so it's not *completely* gone!
ReplyDeleteBadbomben, awww you're so sweet :D
Shari, thanks! I don't think it's too similar to What A Drag. Kaleidoscope is much smoother, almost liquid looking with micro-sparkle, wheras What A Drag is quite chunky looking. Kaleidoscope is also very green looking while What A Drag is pure silver.
Steph, when I hear Kaleidoscope, I want to see something like the China Glaze kalediscope collection!
Shryh, interesting! I didn't know that. That is pretty cool! I'd love a rose gold polish, and I've never seen black gold but I'm sure I'd like it! :D
Yes, I know, but none of those ebay sellers ship to Sweden:/ But that's life
ReplyDeleteKaleidoscope looks awsome!
ReplyDeleteSanna, oh no! I didn't know that :( Well, I'll keep my eye out...
ReplyDeleteSminkan, Kaleidoscope IS awesome :D
Kaleidoscope sounds nice! Is it that unique? Lovely anyhow!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful Nails!
ReplyDeleteRocketqueen, I think the most unique part of Kaleidoscope is the itty-bitty micro-sparkle particles. It doesn't look glittery at all, but when the light hits it it really sparkles :)
ReplyDeleteGinger Beer, thank you so much! :D
I just have to check it out, maybe I can swatch it in store to have a look for myself! I just got the most gorgeous silver and "dark silver" from CND; Times Square and Black Platinum...yum! But Kaleidoscope has a wee bit green...aah! Lemming!
ReplyDeleteRocketqueen, Ooh I love CND Black Platinum! I haven't seen Times Square, but Tarnished Spoons is an interesting silvery color.
ReplyDeleteGo check it out in the store- trying it first might save you $20 if you end up not liking it ;-)
I want both of these!
ReplyDeleteDo know of any Kaleidoscope dupes scrangie?
Do you think I still need to get gold fiction. In my gold collection, I have OPI symphony in gold and OPI I get a kick out of gold that look pretty similar to gold fiction, but I am not sure. What do you think scangie, do I need gold fiction?
What about kaleidoscope? I would love to pick up a simialr color if possible if it looks pretty simialr or should I just fork over the $20?
LOL HAHAHA what is $20 when you have already spent $87.50 for 3 Robertson colors!
Beautylover, I don't know of an *exact* match to Kaleidoscope, but Stephanie @ http://www.PolishAddict.com did a post this week on Kaleidoscope dupes and some of them look pretty similar!
ReplyDeleteI think Kaleidoscope is a really unique color and it's worth the $20 :)
As for Gold Fiction, it *is* a really nice gold color, and if you're a big gold lover I'd say go for it. It is different from the OPI golds because it doesn't seem to have any shimmer and is a really "liquidy" yellow melted gold look. Personally, I like OPI I Get A Kick Out Of Gold better, but, like I said, if you *really* love gold polish than you might want to try it out- IF the $30 price tag doesn't bother you!
